AFAIK this game has not yet been released in English. Since it's already a few years after its initial Russian release I'm afraid we'll never get to see an English version although the official statement is that a English version will be released and that statement hasn't been changed yet so there's still hope.
They may still be working on the English version and are updating the engine while they're at it.
Maybe some day this game will be freeware and a smart kid will make subtitles for it.
syrionus: it was released about a year and a half ago in russia, && you are right about the "european" release in sept 2008, .. game releases dont work geographically, russian releases and european release dates are usually different even if russia is in europe.
I think what you mean is that Russia is not part of the EU so it has different release scheduling :( I got the russian version but I dont understand anything, oh the Menu is ajustable to english but it sux if you dont even get any storyline information after the brief intro :(

Story is that while United Nations colonized the nearby star systems to our homeworld one group of piligrims landed on far planet become affected by "retrospective evolution" - they take zoraastrism as their religion and declare independance. To grow up as fast as possible that new colony (named Concordia) decided to legalise human cloning and genetic engeering. Centuries pass and Concordia became a force even for a UN. Dunno why they declared war to UN and terrans have to fight back.
So u play as young russian navy officer, all way from rookie just from boot camp to ace flying along with best russian, european(in game only german, in book there was many - french and uk`s and spanish) wing on loads of diffirent missions(bombing, escorts, patrols, intercepts).
Gameplay in two words - that`s Freelancer with ability to turn on real physics, land on any planet WITHOUT loading(means u just go and land - space, aerobraking, and then land. Meantime it`s sucks as u can be hit in hangar on ground by cruiser firing from orbit lol) and realistic proportions of space objects(If it`s planet - u can`t just go around it in 1min as in Freelancer, it`s too huge)

Just as I said: the Russian version has been around a few years (2 years I think) IN RUSSIA!
The European version has only recently been released (hence a few years later). It really isn't hard to understand.

alternate history? this is set in the future, the back story doesnt start until the future.
