  • You can tell Blixa is leaving, he's checked out. I've never seen him so disengaged, even strung out. It was still incredible, regardless.

  • Awesome! Intense!

  • prefection !!!!!

  • Intense

  • Shoot the bass player at 1.26....Ouch

  • Merveilleuse chanson !

  • I see 7 men on stage, not all of whom have black suits. That one might move forward two is no black and white chessboard move, but to dance a collapse successful over the feedback, elide by glide the tripwire cord, certainly deserves the grand O Lord! Mr.Cave here delivers in lieu of homage to the Jackass generation by way of crashing graceful boardwalkward like a rolling stone in search of she sells.

  • Nick Cave is a real dramaturge (with the ancient-greek meaning of the term)!

  • Whoever said down here it was made of wood and wire.

  • flagrantsake i agree!

  • amerattila! yes i would say it. with exceptions:1.From her to eternity2.First born...What

kind of boring music is "no more shall we part"? the first is really good, but the rest of that ? Whaat would ya say?

  • @Siste4366 i would say that you have a very limited range of taste in music and should stick to noise-rock if that's what you specifically only like. Try Melt-Banana or The Blood Brothers or something, jesus

  • FIRST THERE WAS "The Birthday Party"/Boys next door"

THEN: A long, lifeless period called "Bad seeds"

NOW: Finally he comes home, bringing GRINDERMAN , to be at the beginning.....

The BP"s BACK!!!! Finally , I waited so long!

  • @Siste4366 so you call the Bad Seeds a "lifeless period"? Whats wrong with you, man?

  • beautiful.

  • Fuck yeah!!!!

  • 4:40 ... careful , Nick .

  • OH LORD!!!

almost as good ashow as it was in Oslo-only the stage a slight smaller but OH LORD what a preformer

  • Oh my lord !!!!!!

  • with stoney eyes, she looked at me. I know the feeling

  • Fantastic, thankyou. Hey Marty fucks up a few times in this! Lovely sound battle between Blixa and Warren…

  • Fantastic, thankyou. Hey Marty fucks up a few times in this!

  • oh my lord you are great!

  • just love it...

  • aaaahhh.... what a relief...Has someone to say something smart..? I am left without words....

  • i don't know Tom Waits has a pretty normal life, wife kids etc or whatever and makes interesting records... Cave's problem is since his main interest was pleasing himself or pursuing various obsessions etc...good except his songs are becoming more and more autobiographical. which begs the question why should anyone care now? before he had cool allegories and such but now it's like he just bitches or writes sappy love songs. his muse has abandoned him and that's the point... is it interesting?

  • @flagrantsake well this song's bloody awesome, and its probably autobiographical....

  • @flagrantsake no.

  • @flagrantsake No, it is not his muse abandoned him. It happened are some significant changes in the band. First went Blixa, and then Mick. They were the two key figures in bend.Today, Bed Seeds missing the sound of Blixa guitar. This is the only reason why today Bed Seeds sounds a little different...

  • I once had a ho

    Who hadn't let me know

Her other lover was a twin

And some other guy came in

Between them, and he did not like

Me; like me he once had a ho who hadn't

Offerred a lack of knowing like a Holy Ghoest.

  • For all my mistakes i do not feel bad. But your love That i lost still burn my soul.... my sweet Venus!

  • For all my mistakes i do not feel bad. But your love still hurts my soul... my sweet Venus!

  • I think that the latter albums were were much worse on the cd

The passion was taken out of them

Its good to see a proper musician live were you can see the passion

  • I know he is a good singer. But did you know that he is a deist?

  • so much emotion, so much passion, can't be too loud. one of the best songs of all time!

  • he blows me away all the time

  • Great song!!! Great NICK and great musicians!!! Perfect!!!

  • he needs a wireless...

    excelente song!

  • saw this man live at camden circa 85?

kin' awesome! and totally unforgetable, blew me away, a true rock legend

  • I cannot listen to this song loud enough. INCREDIBLE!!!

  • i think its about the somewhat genre change and anger from fans with his drastic changes in style throughout his career.

  • and also the changes in his own personality with fame.

  • "Damocles" look it up. I think its crucial to this song.

  • I think its more about that his way of being

himself has such a negative effect on his wife and piers, and he doesn't quite know what to do with it, hence he is looking for

    "the plot".

  • i feel that its about his pure anger toward the world...raw and pure...not about him being or slowly going insane.

  • my favorite

  • War das in der Columbiahalle? Wenn ja, war ich dort..!;)

    Danke fürs video

  • This is just so fucking unbelievable.

  • Oh I hate them, Ma!

    Oh I hate them, Pa!

    Oh I hate them all!

For what they went and done to you!

  • 5 stars love nick

  • absolutely bad-ass. love nick cave. great lyrics.

  • The song kept me awake for days. Translated it into German, improved the translation..

It's so fucking awesome. I know Cave has a high standard, but WTF !!!

The final minute when Blixa steps up to the band..

  • This video just made me a Nick Cave fan.

  • This is one of my favorite songs, Thanks for sharing.

  • the song you can listen every day...

  • Fantastic! Always loved this song! Made this Alblum when Nick was coming off smack! there was more than one battle going in those days! there is a documentry about it somewhere, I saw on SBS one night. Thanks for posting this wonderful music!

  • I just cannot figure out what this song is about? Is the protagonist going insane? What is going on? I have a good grasp of mr. cave's songs, and I love this one a lot, but the meaning, or the "plot" escapes me. any help?

  • I always took it as a fairly literal trip through his day. Him walking around, people recognizing him, giving him grief that he's 'grown soft' and that 'he's not the man he used to be' etc. The part that drives him insane is that he's found new creativity and a new, peaceful(ish) life only to have people who knew him from the wild days wanting him how he was, not accepting nor letting his growth. Only accepting him one way thus 'admit they hardly knew me' At least that's my take.

  • wow.. that totally makes sense.. thank you so much!

  • But remember that nick is a literary man, so this is not biography.

  • ashburnhouse: true, pretty much all of Nick Cave's album tends to be a giant story with each song being part of that story. Murder Ballads being a good example of his style.

  • Um, Murder Ballads wasn't part of one story. Henry's Dream is, and sometimes songs have callbacks to others (Song of Joy says "All Things Move Towards Their End" as it was said in Loverman, More News From Nowhere mentions Deanna, and a couple others I can't remember right now) but that's about it. They usually share an overarching theme if that's what you mean.

  • As much as I like this interpretation, I think it somewhat underestimates Nick as a song writer (sorry, no offence intended!)

I looked up the references (like the "sword of damocles") and they're all based on heavy literature, often biblical. This makes me think that there is likely a deeper meaning.

Personally I always thought it was about him going insane - for example the way this song starts refined and becomes hectic and almost uncontrolled is reflective of the protagonist's state of mind

  • It starts softly with him talking about what a perfect life he has - his wife, his kids, you just think he's another normal guy, then he goes for a walk, and as he does he starts to unravel.

As the song gets more and more frantic, his fake reality disintegrates and you get an insight into his real life - e.g. the paranoia about the hairdresser & his own reflection, and his wife is actually not real, he's just a stalker.

(I could write an essay on this). But hey, thats just my interpretation!

  • @xheadfirst4halosxx

i agree with what you say mostly.....but the stalker part.....i think its about a man who has lost everything and now his sanity, i do think he has a wife, but one that dosnt want him in her life no more, but otherwise i enjoyed reading your posts =)

  • @bhubba6 shut up

  • I love the opening lines of this song. Haha!

And, of course, the brilliant lines:

    "Now I'm at the hairdresser's

People watch me as they move past

    A guy wearing plastic antlers

Presses his bum against the glass"

  • yes

  • i love the " im sitting at the hairdressers, people watch mw as the move past, a guy wearing plastic antlers presses his bum against the glass" its a classic, love Nick

  • But do you even know what it means? Or do you like it cos it says 'bum' in it?

  • whatever

  • Well lets be honest, there such deep meaning in this song, and your fave lyric is the one containing the word bum?! Check out Green Eyes, it has the word "Fucker" and "Cunt" in it.

  • I have or have had practically every album, i know the swear words, it's just a funny line..

  • by the way didnt actually say it was a favorite lyric and maybe should go get a life and not write such wanky comments on my posts.

  • cuando las peticiones elevadas al cielo son concedidas y el individuo se pierde en ellas olvidando quien fue el que las entrego..

  • Woops, almost took a spill at 4:41!

  • Greatest musical force. These guys saved Rock 'n Roll from banality.

  • nothing like that

  • Ca t' int'eresse de regarder le STEVE LONEY un film d'aventures?

  • IMO greatest Cave's song. Has everything - melody, drama, great lyrics... Masterpiece!

  • this song is like an egg rolling down a hill

  • I feel bad for Blixa, he hardly have to do anything anymore. No wonder he quit, the guy is freakin' bored to death!

  • aye had a look at that aftrer reading your comment, he hasnt got much happening at all in this one

  • i wooke up with this song in my hand ! im obsesed!

  • Nick's sense of humour is awesome. Only he could write a song about getting a haircut this melodramatic and still make it incredible. Love him

  • Reminds me of Auden and Larkin.

  • The bit where he trips over the amp at 4:41 is absolutely priceless. Comedy gold.

I can understand why, though. This is such an incredible song, I actually crashed my car once when I was listening to it.

  • :))))) didnt notice that

  • fucking amazing!!! energy runnig, and fucking living!!!

  • Mmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn xxxxxx

  • Nick is really wild man, I like him !

  • the one singz .. grat (thankz)

  • That's alchemy, right there, babies!

    Fucking amazing!

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

  • Oh. My. God. Love this song. Glad to see a live version. Warren Ellis = Paganini gone mad. Amazing. Pardon me while I pick my dropped jaw up from the floor.

  • warren eliis, an amazing string player

  • bello, energetico, poetico, nick cave & and hes seeds...son, eso, "SON"

  • Oh, Jesus! He NEVER does this live in the UK -- I request it at every show I see. This is my favourite ever Nick Cave song, and this performance is unbelievable: Fresh from losing PJ Harvey, fresh off the herion... the despair is amazing. Compare it to the rubbish he's writing today: "If you got a trumpet... blow it!" And, by the way, lyrically, musically, vocally, and in terms of the production, No More Shall We Part is his greatest achivement.

  • rubbish? come on....give it time to grow on ya! cheers

  • "Oh my lord" --- that's what im feeling everytime i hear this song. it gives me chills. every single time. probably my favorite nick cave song right now.

  • From 5:09 on, it seems like Blixa is just waiting for the moment to go nuts :-)

  • FANFUCKINGTASTIC!!!!!!!

  • Does he nearly fall at around 4.40? Great video. Great performance.

  • You're right! who left those monitors there....great song!

  • One of the most awesome songs ever written in the history of awesome music!!!

WARREN ELLIS you mesmerise me every fucking time you are in front of my eyes!

  • freakin' great song and performance.

    Thanks for the up

  • @denriktigasolvind: Where was this recorded??? Duesseldorf or Berlin?

  • AMEIZING!!!!!!!!!!!! HE REALLY IS THE BEST. lOVE FIORE:)

  • OMG....i love this song.

    Thx for posting it.

  • fuck! this version had blew me away! what a great song ever! Nick Cave rules!

  • HOLY SHIT!!! what a perfomance man!!

  • Are you kidding me? Saw this performed at the 9:30 in DC a few years back. Still ranks as the best live performance I've ever seen.

A single mic cannot capture what's going on here.

  • and this is him sober?!?

  • yes. well, at least no smack. not sure about "totally sober", .ie. no booze

    !

  • heard this song for the first time today and have to say its unbelievable absoluteyl amazing lyrics nick cave fuckin rules

  • What a band...how often do you see dueling violins and guitars.Magic. It's great to see Blixa getting into it

  • Fantastic. "And no more shall we part" is one of THE greatest albums ever and this is a tour de force. Alienation, ego, vunerability, paranoia and a huge finale. Cant ask more he?

  • THE best Nick Cave song ever.

  • It's an absolute Masterpiece.I wish i could see them live.:(

  • One of my favorites!

  • In which city was that recorded?

  • I like this song so much, his songs always have an intresting evolution...and he can express love and madness in a special, precious way...

    love him.

  • Possibly one of the Bad Seeds best. In my opinion at least.

  • I'm so happy to see this!

  • Thanks for the video!

  • kitten smile on my face

  • Ma i miri i tona kohnave

  • ...yeah, and no wonder Blixa still thinks Nick is one of the most talented people in the music industry..

  • which doesn't mean much, considering the current state of the musical scene.

anyway... this is only MY opinion... I don't want to push it down anyone's throat.

  • xno153x, there are still great musicians out there it's just they don't play on radio. You need to actually search for them. And by the way, if this is Cage as a has been that really says a hell of a lot about how great he was in the past. He's hardly a has been in my opinion, by the way.

  • I meant Cave. I mistyped.

  • I wouldn't go as far as saying that there are any new GREAT musicians or artists out there, be on the radio or off-mainstream, most of those who are still relevant are old folks.

And, yeah, he was indeed great in the past, but ever since nocturama came out, he hasn't been able to record a single decent track per album... anyway, this is only my opinion and I mean no offense.

  • I didn't take offense. You're entitled to your opinion and I was just disagreeing.

  • nocturama might not be his best but no more shall we part probably is,its got this song, god is in the house, i sat sadly by her side and 3or4 more high standard songs, someone whos been around for this amount of time deserves applauding, and some of the best songs ive ever heard came from his mind. tupalo, mercy seat, straight to you, into my arms, love letter, breathless, and to many more to remenber off the top of me ed.

  • an album can't be cave's best if each and every song in there isn't excellent.. that's why I would take from her to eternity or henry's dream any day instead of no more shall we part... but that's just me.

  • nick cave rules, he has a way with words

  • This made me laugh.

    Thank you.

    Understatements are cool.

You definitely have an excellent point though.
