Gosh Vanessa just ruins this so much for me! I think Aaron does a great job with Roger, but it's like Vanessa doesn't really get Mimi. She plays Mimi like a high school mean girl (like the Lindsay Lohan movie). Mimi's supposed to be sassy, but sort of naive. Plus, Vanessa's voice is much too nasally, I prefer more rasp.

Sure she was trying hard you can tell, but in the end she was miscast. Not her fault, but doesn't make her any less awkward to watch.

Well she made Mimi seem like a slut, but shes not! I mean yeah shes a stripper but the character Mimi is so much more than that. I honestly don't think she understood the role entirely. She might of actually been good if she figured out what Mimi's all about, and maybe if she had more vocal coaching for this role that might've got the bad singing out of the way. Although some songs she does sound alright.

Is Vanessa the best Mimi out there? No. Was it weird to hear her say that she dropped her stash and has the best ass below 14th street? Hell yes. But you can tell she put everything she had into the performance. She may not be the best Mimi out there, but she was the best Mimi she could be. Plus, you have to admit, she did the best with the "No, with my father." line. When I watched the movie version I thought she was serious.

i finally found out what my problem was with the hollywood bowl. a couple of things:

1. vanessa played mimi with NO levels. you know what im saying? mimi is a really complex character... and I get NONE of that with vanessa.

2. damn... aaron is hot. we can all agree on that! but his voice isnt rock enough for rodger

It wasn't bad. Though, the one thing bothering me is that, from what I remember and took our of the original, was that this song was supposed to be kind of sweet... not... well, kinda skanky-ish. I liked it though, I think the cast did fantastic.

the delivery of all these songs was set for the hollywood bowl and not the smaller broadway stage. The true intimate nature of show had to be modified and I think in this perspective - it was terrific. This cast did a great job.

This was better than the opening night performance, but holy timing. Pick a tempo and stick with it, preferably the original tempo. And Vanessa remembered to grab her stash this time, even if it was the least stealthy awkward grab instead of a smooth dance move.
