Great job ! check Berber music ! This guy here is the king of Berber banjo in Morocco . Go to you tube and type in : Izenzaren Igout Abdelhadi ... when you played the drum , it reminded me of belly dancing clubs !!!
Just wanna inform u that what u play is an indian rhythm and it never related to arabic music as indians are not arabs, We gotta a half tone which gets the oriental melody
are these more varied styles only playable on the cello banjo or can a normal 5 string produce the same sounds coz i really like the style. great video btw
Just to make some corrections, these rhythms are still heavily used in Arabic music although they started in the old times. To the old Arabs, rhythm was very sacred and one should never and by no means make a mistake in the rhythm (Iqaa; plural: Iqaat).
oh wow, your amazing. i wish i understand music. i never took a music lesson or held an instrument but for my dj equipment. Your dumming was so nice. bravo
I learned so much from your great website. Have you on my mp3 player too :) Thanks for this interesting and amazing tutorial. Your are truly great on the banjo.
How do the nylgut compare to the steel. I was thinking of changing to nylgut but wasnt too sure it would work well. Do you usually refer to play on nylgut or steel?
Thanks for the kind words! These days, I prefer to play on the Nylgut. They're floppy compared to steel. But I like the texture and sound, and my left hand is a lot more likely to bounce around and do plucks and other fun things than it is with steel. The drawback is that the Nylguts have less sustain, so I lose some drone, and the occasional strums I like to do have less effect.
As far as I know you can put them on any banjo. I've heard of people needing to widen the slots on their nut or bridge to accommodate the slightly thicker strings, but I haven't run into that issue.
Mate....Im not sure about the Arabic thing...HHmmmmm...yea not quite me....

I came here via your "I've just got a cello banjo" video, and was completely blown away. It's so incredibly fresh, innovative, and interesting.
That said, I must stop gibbering and pick up my banjo. Thank you.

The Nylgut sounds wonderful. Can any banjo be strung with them?

Cat, I mix the strings on my bass. Nylon wound Lows with nanoweb highs. it gives the drone without the tears or blisters. hah. Keep this up Please!!
