Good taste is not defined by territorial, musical, or cultural barriers. Excellence is universally accepted. If you can't recognize this as excellence, the fault lies not in the stars, but within yourself. Great job, Al.
@Guzco1 I couldn't agree more. Zakk Wylde (a heavy metal shredder) quotes Al as one of his influences. Clearly not the same style, but this type of talent crosses language + genre barriers.

You don't understand - This is a live film shot several years ago - You can't just tell the drummer now to masturbate!
You should have attended the concert and issued your command during the performance. I very much doubt the drummer would have obliged but at least the time-scale would have made your request feasible.
.....unless of course you meant to say "The drummer's a wanker!" :-)__
Oh, and the whole CD "The Grande Passion" (my favorite by Al) is truly an experience, but so nice to have these vid's to actually see this experience!!!
@lcourage jajajjjaja this is not tango the guitar with metal strings , the effects. jajaj think whatever you want is obvious you are not argentine like me so you cant undestand tango. and he is using a guitar nail! amaizing jajajajjaja..
Correct - this is NOT the Tango!; nor is it intended to be - listen to the rhythm! This is Al di Meola's interpretation of one of Astor Piazzolla's compositions. To criticise it because it is not 'Tango' is to miss the point entirely.
You may not like it and that is of course your prerogative but surely you do not suffer from so profound a lack of intelligence as to criticise 'A' simply because it is not 'B'.
@cartnhors another person said that "it was the better version of libertango" , you cant make better version than original ones, you can made different versions, i didnt criticise his effects , nor his metal strings simply separating things , this is libertango is a free version of a tango. wich by the way is not tango. i didnt put any judge on that you are missing the point as i see.
@dagger377 Re " you cant make better version than original ones"
So that'salmost every jazz recording which ever covered a standard down the toilet then!
Most standards were originally performed as schmaltzy show or dance tunes before they became the famous jazz recordings we now know.
Are you really saying (purely for example) that the classic Coleman Hawkins version of Body & Soul is not better than the original rather staid recording by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra?!
@cartnhorse look , what is "better" for you? different, you are making a version you didnt had the creative impulse to make something and you covered something of someone else, cover is easy , to create from 0 is another different thing. what is "better" , better sound? , more instruments?. it is different art is not better or worse is different and all the credits is (for me) the one who created it from nothing. i can practice and play what di meola is doing but i cant create libertango you see
@cartnhorse the europeans have some serious eurocentrist issues regarding art and culture in general. a renacist paint is better than a latinoamerican aborigenus one? WHY?. is different. not better. i dont have lack of intelligence. do you have any idea what was trying to tell piazzolla with libertango? do you know if al di meola respected his feeling? you have no idea of that but you hear some guitar effects and a guitar god and you believe "whoa this is better" you are ignorant not me.
@dagger377 "Better" and "worse" is a matter of taste. Europeans generally like european things, and native americans generally like native amierican things. It's simple.
@SergeyEremeev What the hell, mate? If you like this music, another option would be to say you like this music. Dragging Justin Bieber into every conversation is not particularly necessary, nor did the situation demand you commenting on the number of people that decided not to like this piece of music.
@SergeyEremeev There's really no need to go around showing how much of an idiot you are. No one mentioned Justin Bieber and I doubt the 58 users that disliked this video liked Justin Bieber, they probably were looking for interpretations of Libertango and they didn't like -this- particular interpretation.
Fucking metalhead kids bringing up Justin Bieber in every Youtube comment... that's how he got so famous, probably.
@Geisttanzer first of all, you insulted me, secondly, u assumed i am a metalhead, thirdly, when a 23 year old calls someone kid, it just makes me laugh... Finally, what's wrong with Beiber being famous? I really don't like his music, but I don't really care bout him either. If someone's meaningless comment makes you so angry and passionate, then probably it's the time to see the doctor. BTW, there is no need for swearing you know. Try being more polite to people you are talking to in the future
@SergeyEremeev I did insult you, what's your point? Seeing how you made a comment on how the people that disliked this video got raped by Justin Bieber, it's quite hypocrital of you to highlight my impoliteness, and to say you don't care about Justin Bieber. I did "assume" you were a metalhead, but I just clicked on your Youtube channel and saw Simphony X guitar covers, ain't nothing wrong with prejudices if they're true.
@SergeyEremeev I'm not 23, but 20, and I generally don't argue with kids (I only called you a kid because of your idiotic comment, though, I didn't really assume you are a kid), but I'm sick of people bashing on the dislikers (specially in videos which aren't really that special), and comments about Justin Bieber in videos which don't have anything to do with him. Good guitar playing, by the way, even though Simphony X sucks, but it's nice that you like Opeth
@Geisttanzer the point is that my comment was a joke, but yours was a real insult, of cuz i didn't mean that they got raped, whereas you did call me an idiot in all seriousness. Also, not that I care about your musical interests but saying that one band sucks is stupid, cuz that's just your subjective opinion, therefore it's wrong to state this as a universal fact. Also I listen to tonnes of genres so don't generalize me with only one genre.
whoa that was amazing. Beautiful and this is coming from a guy who only really listens to extreme metal. Any recommendations on which album to check out?
@anaconquer hahaha! i also listen to extreme metal (except thrash). u should check out the "elegant gypsy" and "live at san francisco" where he plays with john mclaughlin and paco de lucia. top albums imo

Did anyone think that Al Di Meola looks like the actor Russell Crowe? By the way, Al Di Meola is a true master of guitar shredding along with Chris Poland.
i think he took a masterpiece from Piazzolla and added his knowledge and skills to make it another beautiful and almost completely different piece of music, he does not only demonstrates what a great musician he is but also what is capable of doing with his own tools and habilities
@cheloba1 I fully agree with you. Although there are the typical flashy runs, there is not much of the original tango rhythm or harmonic detail. This version is a simplification which does not work for me at all.
more of this constructive and generous comments of the like of Bluesy1980, within few lines he's given to me the opportunity to get to know great musicians of whom I ignored even the existence.
Never really watched many Al Di Meola videos, but with the rimmed glasses and the beard and the short haircut, he kinda resembles Clapton, like on the cover of the Unplugged album.
ive listened to them all now. And Oshio kotaro, Al Di Meola, Andrey Dobrovolskiy, federico Vallejos are simply all truly masters. Oshio Ai the most creative, Al Di Meola - most professional, Andrey Dobrovolskiy - most musical, Federico is the most "tangy"/ Real masters of the instrument! And they all are my favourite, simply cant choose one of them/
Adios
This, I find is a typical example of virtuoso instrumentalists arranging a piece in such a way that it loses its original power and depth. Astor Piazzola's music conveys emotional subtleties that di Meola doesn't even hint at in this interpretation.
lmao the one guy said theres TOO much emotion. what a joke. the tango is one of the most emotional forms of expression you get musically or though the actual dance. If someone can execute the tango properly its because they are pouring their souls into the piece....no emotion bah!

i think he took a masterpiece from Piazzolla and added his knowledge and skills to make it another beautiful and almost completely different piece of music, he does not only demonstrates what a great musician he is but also what is capable of doing with his own tools and habilities

he detroyed the song !
cheloba1 1 year ago
@cheloba1 I fully agree with you. Although there are the typical flashy runs, there is not much of the original tango rhythm or harmonic detail. This version is a simplification which does not work for me at all.

more of this constructive and generous comments of the like of Bluesy1980, within few lines he's given to me the opportunity to get to know great musicians of whom I ignored even the existence.
Thank you.

Al Di Meola is just too amazing. The creator of guitar didn't expected him to come out

Of course the song's good, Piazzolla is argentinian, the best people live there.

MaghoxFr 1 year ago
ginosupernova 1 year ago
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
ginosupernova 1 year ago
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
ginosupernova 1 year ago
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
@MaghoxFr Yorugua insignificante igual que tu país... chau vieja suerte, ojalá te avives
ginosupernova 1 year ago
MaghoxFr 1 year ago
Adios

SingingSongMan 1 year ago
This, I find is a typical example of virtuoso instrumentalists arranging a piece in such a way that it loses its original power and depth. Astor Piazzola's music conveys emotional subtleties that di Meola doesn't even hint at in this interpretation.
johannislots 1 year ago
fantastic
varanza100 1 year ago
lmao the one guy said theres TOO much emotion. what a joke. the tango is one of the most emotional forms of expression you get musically or though the actual dance. If someone can execute the tango properly its because they are pouring their souls into the piece....no emotion bah!

This piece takes you around the world. Most complicated arrangement I have ever been pleased to listen to. WOW!
