BMW M registry says the 320is has a dogleg G260 with 1:1 5th. I wasn't aware there was a dogleg version of that trans, I thought it was only the G265. Your ratios don't sound all that short. Can you confirm this?
Love the car man, I can't tell you how many times I've watched this vid. SO many that every time I hear "Holy Wars" I want that S14 sound to be in the song.
@aarondurden Just an error. A 260 'box won't bolt up to an S14. There's a CR 260 that was used in early M20 cars, not to be confused with the 265 CR that fits S14/M30.
With this gear ratio it seems it's never getting to max speed (the straight piece of the ring). Sounds like it's trying but just not getting there. Might be wrong , dont kill me :p Nice driving, you sir.. you know the ring!
@wbi007 There is a long uphill section starting at about 4:50 (I think this is the area you are referring to). Here the 2.0L engine struggles to accelerate through to 4th gear (not enough torque). There is a large gap from 3rd to 4th, you can even hear it begin to slow down after shifting into 4th. A Group A gear box and appropriate final drive would help a lot here. But ultimately you need more power to continue to accelerate in these uphill areas.
I used a 3.64 LSD first and then changed to a 3.46 (that's not a typo). I found the 3.46 to be better for me. The 3.64 had me hitting the limiter about 50ft before the braking zones on a lot of corners. The 3.46 let me stay in the gear a little longer, and helped me avoid the big RPM drop from 3rd to 4th.
Ultimately, the swap to a 3.46 shaved 15 seconds from my time even though I also changed to a smaller tire (from 225 to 215, both Toyo R888).
awesome car, drive and sound mate! legendary e30! i'm also proud owner of e30,but my is 318i(i hope soon will be one 318is or 320i).regards from Serbia.
I was in Germany with a load of guys from london, and you told me you worked @ thr "bone yard" for helicoptors @ RAF Swaffham. And you took me out in your Car. Handled like it was on rails. And you had you Masking tape score to remind you of how many laps you had done.
can you tell me something? 8min 26sec 1 lap in Nurburgring? this driver drive one lap in Nurburgring and he done 8min 26sec? shit...... thats mast mean skills baby..
Das ist mit Abstand einer der Besten Videos (Touristenfahrten),die ich bisher gehsehen habe,E30 ist schon Geil,da können die Golf und Opel Fahrer einpacken
What a gripping video! Great drive too, just shows what you get when you match a great engine with a breat chassis...it's not all about horsepower either. The carbon airbox makes such a fantastic sound...
wow... 5/5 and favourited... E30s OWN!!!!!!! And obvisouly the Porsche was owned by an old bimmer.... yayyyyyyy!! hehehe.... Loved the G-meter on the cam, loved the Karussel turn, loved everything! Keep up the good work mate :D
Fantastic driving, and the car sounds superb. Shame you had to sell it. Must have had a great time owning it. Thanks for the video.

it looks like your suspension is on point with the track not to stiff where it would make it bounce and not to soft ...very nice.

Ah, that airbox sound .... Properly quick lap, Jake. That 320is was handling pretty damn good, huh ?
bmgm3 2 years ago
The posted time is from Bridge to Gantry, so not a "full" lap of the Nurburgring. Its missing the long straight.

Hi, BTG = Bridge to Gantry. The Bistein bridge in the beginning to the Audi gantry at the end are the common timing points used to compare laps.
