Amazing musicians...Blues Is Listening Beyond What You Hear. July
Your comment sbout SRV looking for BB's permission to take a solo reminds me of a story about SRV and George Thorogood playing at a Chuck Berry tribute. George had his guitar turned up and Stevie has his down low. Story has it George leaned over and said, to Stevie "Turn it up, man. They aren't going to be able to hear you. SRV said "Ain't our night, Man.'
Stevie was a humble gentleman. He could play circles around most people, but has enough class to show be low key.
Actually you got it wrong....I was responding to what someone Else said but because the reply did not go directly under their comment...this is the crap I get. I don't give a F*ck if you are Blue or Green...music is universal...for all colors and don't jump the gun, you may get shot. Have a nice day. : )
What's with the guy play the Dizzy Gillespi style horn? Bet he'd never touch his trumpet again if Diz had listened to him play. Also, listen to how sloppy the trumpet section sounds when they play in unison. This video is a good example of the pseudo-music that's helped sink music as an American art form to be enjoyed. IF YOU CAN PLAY, PLAY. IF YOUR GLORY as a musician is due to politics or Mafia; DON"T SING, DON'T EVER PLAY A NOTE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO HELP OUR GREAT COUNTRY FALL.
@ivarus75 okay, thnx for the info. But don't you think it would make more sense that the title should reflect the discrete piece (of the larger video) instead of the whole video? Thanks for posting, anyway! and any fan of the greats is cool in my book. :)
@ivarus75 ...thank you for this amazing video . It lead to find that the whole concert is on here as well. So now no one will think those fine ladies were snubbed.
@kittygalore69 I wondered why they didn't sing as well, I was looking forward to it. The horn section train wrecked it too! SRV looked over at them as if saying, what is the deal with that? lol
already, the "trollatariate" class, are out talking shit about etta. " i never heard of her" well, get your asshole out of fox news, and mother fucking death metal, and then, just maybe, you'll know who the hell she was, imbeciles!!
I once saw a television interview with BB King where he told the reporter that he was simply incapable of doing things on the guitar like Stevie Ray Vaughn.
@bahamabrz BB King is very humble like that. It's true of course.....I think we all know he's not capable of playing guitar like SRV. Why would he want to anyway? He's BB King! Next to that, SRV wasn't capable of playing like BB King either.
@ivarus75 at 2:12 i think he showed he can play like BB. BB revolutionized guitar and no one is denying that. its stupid to say one played better than the other cause its all opinion and theyre both just beautiful guitar players. but its stupid to even think bb could physically do anything SRV could on guitar. no one can physically do what SRV did. especially when thinking of gauge strings and his attack on guitar. no one matches that
@tiny789 You are obviously not a musician,if you were you would understand that firstly all on stage are greats,it's not a competition and that Stevie is not ''out of it ,or hiding'' he is showing the proper respect and manners with his musical brothers and sisters.
how much soul can be fit in one room! at 3:30, b.b says something to etta, she eyes him down, and then gives a "hell no thank you very much" look. old black people are so funny and soulful, even just casually
People are thinking FAR TOO HARD over this performance. Its about the music not Race. Enjoy the sound and the many talents in one place at the same time!
@Gooneygoogoo79 This troll is just going around dissing SRV videos. He needs to be strangled with a high E string as he listens to Justin Beiber on a continuous loop. lol
i hung out with Stevie a few times in the OAK CLIFF area of dallas, alot of time was spent under the Trinity river bridge under I-35. chillin with the wino's. alot of guitar playing and learning the blues. RIP my brother.
@HerMajesty5 Well, I'm not surprised. But let me explain. What your comment meant (to me and others I'm sure) is that blues is a style of music that only "black people" can enjoy. It's demeaning and unnecessary. Who the f*** cares about the color of your skin?
@SweetHoneyMack ....my response was in reply to someone saying something along the lines of "White people don't like this music"...just wanting to clarify.
@dhutchinson86 He just might have been in rehab when this concert was done, but if you think he's sober in this video, then I guess you've never seen him clean.
Blues guitar for me would be BB King-Hubert Sumlin-GateMouth Brown-Cootie stark and kenny wayne shepherd. Rock n Roll guitar its Edward Van halen and Jimi hendrix hands down.
I love BB. He works the audience. Stevie Ray works the guitar. They are both masters at their trade. The guitar is not BB;s. The world of guitar belongs to Stevie Ray. The stage is Mr Kings,
This is so great - my feet danced to this song and Proud Mary, so often in the 60's and 70's! It brings back wonderful memories of a simple time, when music was real TALENT and the GaGa Awfuls of the World weren't even born yet.
my favorite and least favorite blues guitarists. ill give you a clue: bb king is a bad ass. heres another clue: srv sounds like a white guy trying to play blues
@jackjls i'm sure that buddy guy, albert king and bb king himself would strongly, strongly disagree with you (and probably more). so now, sit down and shit your uninformed trap. you too need a dick slapping my friend.
Billy Ocean can sing now!!! You cannot find many black people singin' like that group right there anymore. Most of them just want to do the hip hop or rap thing.
@XxalightnerxX When I listen to Stevie Ray I dont say "that's why white ppl are awesome" same when I listen to Phil Collins or Jim Morrison or Michael Stipe or Eric Clapton or Bruce Springsteen...Its music and they are musicians...Music doesn't know color or ethnicity...its MUSIC

@SuperPrivate2011 Let's not get TOO carried away. Stevie looks awful silly in his paperboy hat, Etta and Chaka look like they just walked out of a hurricane and BB looks like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man got set on fire. :-x
That's Paul Butterfield on harmonica, in what may be his last major public performance. Pretty hard to squeeze the harp into such a bold horn section, but he manages to find a space. He died a month later. As for the SRV gibberish: read "Caught in the Crossfire" and you'll see he was quite reverential toward BB and like any great musician, waited for his front-man to give him the cue. The rest of the time, he played the great rhythm role he learned from his brother Jimmy.
I can't believe BB King is still alive. African American, 200 pounds overweight, diabetic and 86 years old. This cat is unbelievable
