Your comment sbout SRV looking for BB's permission to take a solo reminds me of a story about SRV and George Thorogood playing at a Chuck Berry tribute. George had his guitar turned up and Stevie has his down low. Story has it George leaned over and said, to Stevie "Turn it up, man. They aren't going to be able to hear you. SRV said "Ain't our night, Man.'

Stevie was a humble gentleman. He could play circles around most people, but has enough class to show be low key.

i hung out with Stevie a few times in the OAK CLIFF area of dallas, alot of time was spent under the Trinity river bridge under I-35. chillin with the wino's. alot of guitar playing and learning the blues. RIP my brother.

That's Paul Butterfield on harmonica, in what may be his last major public performance. Pretty hard to squeeze the harp into such a bold horn section, but he manages to find a space. He died a month later. As for the SRV gibberish: read "Caught in the Crossfire" and you'll see he was quite reverential toward BB and like any great musician, waited for his front-man to give him the cue. The rest of the time, he played the great rhythm role he learned from his brother Jimmy.
