@JFSniper147 You can always clip into a bolt, switch over to the grigri and rap down. Or if you are climbing above the bolt, just downclimb. If the bolt is above you and you want to downclimb, you need to pull out slack with your hand first, then you can downclimb. I'm not sure I understand your question exactly- post another comment or message me with more details and I'd be happy to help you out!
@AronSensei thanks, but I'm more thinking if you might fall on an overhang or something and you're just swinging. The rope holding you would be too tight to switch over, wouldn't it?
@JFSniper147 OK I understand you better now. If you are hanging in space you have 2 options. You can do one-arm pullups on the rope and pull it through the device (tough but doable for short distances), or you can carry a micro ascender (a ropeman or tibloc) on your harness. Throw the micro ascender on and some of your quickdraws and make a leg loop, then you can at least jug back to your last bolt, a switch to the grigri, or chage your Soloist into rappel mode. Good question!
@06rum Im not sure I understand your question. After you rappel you are on the ground and the grigri is on your harness. If you could post again or message me with a more detailed question I'd be more than happy to help you out!
The option of top-rope soloing did not mention putting a weight on the end of the rope strand used for that, to keep the rope feeding through the Grigri as you go up. Why use the Soloist, if you have a Grigri? They work the same for catching a fall; but the Grigri will descend. If the Soloist stays on the line, doesn't the cam need to be removed to stop it from locking?
@thumlyly I always use my gri-gri for TR soloing (although I rarely TR solo, I prefer to lead). Weighting the rope is a good idea, although I think I would use a petzl shunt, ascender, or mini-traxion if I wanted to get into TR soloing rather than the grigri.
You can lower on the Soloist, that's why it has a hole in the back of it. I actually need to add a tutorial video of how to lower/rappel with the Soloist- its pretty much the one thing I am missing from the tutorial series.
very well explained sensei and i defiantly wont forget my beer thanks
