Archie personally helped me. I'm a pianist with a recurring physical problem with my hands. I was depressed. He has a persistent problem with his lip which affects his saxophone output. He helped me to go on --- pursue life and music and art more broadly. He may have even saved my life. Bless him.

Seen a lot of shows but about ten years ago I went to Northampton MA where Shepp headed jazz at UMass for a number of years so all his students,the Afro-American studies folks,and every jazz nut packed the place.He played with three bands and even the Umass boxing coach came up and sang a ballad.From out to sugar shack to ballads it was a tour de force and maybe the best show I have ever seen.Shepp rules from "New Thing" period till today.
