@randomvidmaker1 Partitioning one Macintosh hard drive into two parts using the steps in the video should not delete any data/files on your Mac OS. After you have installed Windows on the other partition, however, and wish to make the Windows partition bigger or smaller, you must combine the two partitions (erasing the Windows data but, again, not the Mac data) and then repartition the hard drive. In any case, you should not be losing files from your Mac OS.
@Nessilo Ohgawd, that sounds like it sucks... I guess go through any troubleshooting steps you would with a laptop? Try a cable if you're not already.
do you absolutely need the mac install disks after you install windows? i lost my install disk. it looks like you u only used to get bootcamp on windows... i this really needed?
@mikesmusic1988 I believe they're only used to install drivers; how important they are to the function of the computer, I don't know. You could always try it and see what happens ;P
@DjEdgarHimmelreich There has been a bluetooth icon on Windows 7 from the start; however, I used a wired keyboard and mouse during installation, so bluetooth may not be activated until after Windows 7 is fully installed. I suggest borrowing a wired keyboard and mouse from a friend or getting a cheap one somewhere for the installation.
@LOLentertainMen Yes! All you have to do is go to the boot camp assistant on Mac and combine the partitions. I've had to re-install Windows several times due to needing more space, viruses, etc.
@SmartOwnage You may have to download audio drivers, or you can search Google for the problem. Make sure you're not using an illegal ("bootleg") copy of W7.
is thier a way to make bootcamp load windows without pressing options during boot so like i just press the power button on my macbook then walk away and come back and its on windows
@m4airsoftmaster Yes, it's really easy. Just open up the BootCamp control panel in either mac or windows and choose the default startup disk as Windows.
I already have windows vista on my bootcamp but i going to buy windows 7 do I need to uninstall windows vista and then install windows 7 or can i start right away with install windows 7?
@jex422 You should look around to see if you can upgrade your Vista partition to Windows 7, but your safest bet would be to back up any files you need, uninstall Vista using Boot Camp (on Mac) and then do a clean install of Windows 7 using Boot Camp.
I install windows 7 home premium 64 bits on my imac with the boot camp, but when I insert the the leopard dvd and try to start said: boot camp x64 is on supported on this computer model, what i can do?
@cwgp Did you mean it's NOT supported? That's odd, because any fairly recent mac SHOULD support Windows 7 x64... I'm not sure exactly what to do here. I'd say your first step would be to call Apple tech support. If that fails, buy a Snow Leopard upgrade disk, upgrade your mac to Snow Leopard, then try installing Windows 7 with Boot Camp. Good luck!
@MadDogMeh I am on a mac, and I'm dual-booting Windows 7 using Bootcamp. I use a Mac Pro, which only comes with a tower, not a monitor. Buying a $1,000 Apple monitor = nty.
@maucordoba eep, I didn't put credits! Sorry, I can't remember the names of them, but they're both by the band Boys Like Girls. One of them is The Great Escape.
I got Windows 7 for about $100 from NewEgg, by buying the OEM version. Basically, if you install the OEM version, it can ONLY be installed on that computer, until you uninstall it and call in to microsoft to get it renewed. Windows 7 actuallly arrived yesterday, I installed it using Boot Camp as usual, and it's fantastic. So, if you don't mind the OEM restrictions and don't want to pay $200 for the retail version... I suggest getting that
Okay well I am going to start here... Is the Windows 7 software free? Also about how long did the download take?? Also just a side note I completely and totally <3 you because you play Runescape and have a mac <33
Oh! Can you tell me anything about what's on the package?Does it say anything about just being an upgrade disk? How much was it? If it was $100-200, it is probably a full install disk.
If it's an upgrade disk, I seriously doubt it would work, as with those it probably checks for a previous version of Windows before allowing the install. If it's a full OS install disk, then it may work.
The RC .iso file is 2.5gb; For the full version of Windows 7, any regular blank DVD should be fine. (I wouldn't think the Windows 7 .iso file would be more than 4gb)
omg i just payed 300 for this but guess what it says error and i put in the 64 bit one its a dvd when i was formatting where you select bootcamp and it said error :( 3 times and now my mac is screwed up how do i uninstall it cause im gonna try the 32 bit one but just so u know i partioned it to 85 gbs for windows is that why it doesnt work? please please please help me with it.
Hi Attstrpure: Thanks for posting your tutorial. It was well done and easy to follow. I am planning on installing Windows 7Pro on my daughter's Mac. We seem to be missing the Leopard disk that came with the computer...but she has just purchased the upgrade to OS 10.5 (Snow Leopard). At the point in the Windows installation where we have to update the windows drivers (for video card, bluetooth, etc) would the OS 10.5 upgrade disk have those files on it? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
I too have upgraded to Snow Leopard, but I'm not sure whether the disk is a full OS install, or just an upgrade. However, I don't see any reason why it would harm the computer. I'd say, just try to pop it in and open bootcamp (on windows) and see if it'll install the drivers. I would offer to send you the files from my Install disk, but I think they're only usable by my Mac Pro.
If the Snow leopard disk doesn't work, try searching around on Google or YouTube for your answer. =)
nvm i uninstalled it but why does mine say error everytime im at the part where it says expanding where u say it may seem stuck and 0 well it says error every dam time sigh figures for me
I had another thought: If the Snow Leopard disk doesn't work for you, and you can't find the Leopard installation disk, you could try going to an apple store. I bet someone there could find a replacement Leopard disk to give or sell to you. Hopefully you'll have better luck there; I'm hardly a pro at this, so I'm sorry I couldn't help you more than this.
I'm not sure how to help you, as I use a wired connection. However, you can try clicking start, searching for "device manager" and opening it. You can then try searching for your wireless card or network connection (mine's under "Network adapters", but again, I'm using a wired connection). I hope this helps =) message/comment with any other questions.
Yeah, mac pro doesn't come with a monitor, just a tower. This was fairly cheap and big (23" i believe) and apple monitors are VERY expensive. The acer just... works =D
good video. it really helps my cousin recommended me this video. I have a question, can you install windows 7 on a mac with ust the upgrade cd? i had a free upgrade from hp, so i was wondering if i could use it instead of having to buy windows 7. thanks a lot.
You can try it, but I would assume not. I think an upgrade CD would only install Windows 7 once it recognized you have a previous version of Windows already installed. Sorry =/
I used my Leopard disk during the installation, and have upgraded to Snow Leopard since. I'm assuming you upgraded, and your mac did not come with Snow Leopard. I suggest, after installing Windows 7, to put your Leopard disk in first to install drivers, then try your Snow Leopard disk second to make sure there aren't any more to install.
64-bit basically enables you to use the extra ram on your computer, if you have more than 4gb. 32-bit only uses 4gb of your ram. I assume your iMac has 2-4gb of ram? If it has more, you can go for 64-bit, if not, definitely do not go 64-bit. Most programs are still 32-bit, and while 64-bit windows can still run 32-bit programs, they may run slower or have unintentional results. When I installed 64-bit Windows, Sony Vegas ran slowly, which is why I switched to 32-bit. It works perfectly.
Yes, it is very easy to do. In fact, I did it a few days ago when I switched from 64- to 32-bit Windows. You simply go to the boot camp assistant (on mac) and choose to manage/edit your partitions, and delete the boot camp partition. It only takes a minute to regain the space.
Any mac that can use the Boot Camp assistant. I'm not sure if you can do it on any operating system before Leopard, but you can take a look around in the Boot Camp manual or search the Apple site to find out.
