I use my old yogurt cups tp plant my seed in and they do just fine.A grow light is ok on cloudy days. But when seeds come up outside the sun never shines at night so whats with a grow light?Actually seeds don't need light till they start coming up.Just don't put them in a dark closet!
I have started my seedlings indoors for YEARS and I have never had the luxury of "heated" soil. My seeds have yet to rot and my plants have always done fine.
someone asked about grow lights, I just buy the shop lights that are WAY cheaper than grow lights and last many times longer and my plants love them. My husband attached wheels to the bottom of my "growing cart" and I wheel the seedlings outside on sunny days and take them back in at night. How do wild plants grow with no heated trays?

Could you tent your soil under plastic and lit with grow lights in advance of planting...would that warm the soil sufficiently?

Would vinegar work to soak the pans in? I can't be around bleach for health reasons.

Bleach?! Yuck! Why not use vinegar or an orange oil solution instead of a toxic chemical?
