This guy has no idea what he is talking about. This bike is the Light aluminum version of the Tarmac. You can get it in a full sized crank. This bike is the same geometry as a Tarmac. Most all reviews bill it as the race alternative. Stiff Aluminum Allez or lighter less stiff Tarmac. It is not a TRI bike of any sorts. I know several racers and Specialized dealers riding this bike over Tarmac. Lastly it is billed as the winter ride instead of tarmac. I have ultegra. Upgrade your wheels and race.
I believe 2 chain rings on the crank. I'm guessing comp is short for competition, nobody rides triples in competition. You don't get much more in a tripple. Either you are in top gear on the flats or granny gear climbing. I have used both, and I see no reason to get a tripple.
I'm cycling from London to Berlin in July so I'm trying to decide between getting a Specialized Allez Double or the Trek 1.1. What advice can you give me?
Trying to decide between an Allez and a Secteur. It would be my first road bike, so I guess I would lean towards the Secteur since I'm more of a casual rider, but I would hate to compromise any speed. All other things being equal, how much more speed would I get out of the Allez?
@Trollbaiter But it all depends on how much you ride at once... if you will be ridding less than 15mi all at once then id go for the Comp. If you are the type that does like 20-30+ miles then i would do the comp. Also what is your ridding style? Do you like to ride at a normal pace (Secteur) or blast down the street (Allez comp)? Is there lots of hills where you are ridding (Secteur)?
I pronounce it Allez with the z, and sram as s ram. I don't care if that's wrong.

@BlueReishiMan
compact
the crank has a "compact" teethset, theyre better if your gonna be riding on hills and stuff. as opposed to standard cranks and tripple ring cranks

@Trollbaiter With the Allez you will gain acceleration but give up comfort. However comfort is relative and you can get used to it over time.
I like to go fast at all times and ride mostly flats.. i do like 12miles a day 4 days a week.. the bike is perfect for me.

@skylark8008 It is great for the beginning Triathlete who doesn't have the money for two different bikes for regular road riding, and triathlons.

It is not for Tris!
skylark8008 1 year ago
@skylark8008 why not? What stops the bike from being used in a tri? Oh, that's right, nothing.
GreasyPsycho 1 year ago
@GreasyPsycho Well a bike is a bike. You could use it for Tri. But Specialized do a Tri specific bike in their range, called the Transition.
