  • the transition at 2:45 is just epic

  • is not the song a mix of the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings

  • I have never thought Hurin like here..

  • not bad-- not who I would've cast for Hurin though

you Must realize that Hurin is the GREATEST mortal warrior of ALL TIME!

he needs to be more epic

  • they really must make a movie abouth the children of Hurin, The tale of Turin together with Beren and Luthien and the story of Feanor while he was alive were my favorite in all the silmarillion, but l think l like The story of Turin Better, and what happend to Hurin when he was released from Angband

  • Well done video, the clip representing the leap of Nienor is from the movie "Last of Mohicans" with came out in the early 1990s. Thank you very much for this video its a moving story and well worth exploring.

  • Outstanding! Thank you!

This tantalizing video shows what could be done by Hollywood to really expand on Tolkien's mythology. Fans of LOTR need to know that LOTR was merely the END of a MUCH LARGER mythological story that Tolkien created.

  • well made

  • GREAT video the great video i ever saw on You Tube...I also red this book...

  • where did the clip of the dragon at 6:46 come from??

  • tolkien , supposedly , could read ancient rune and he studied a lot of ancient rune and translated it into his books

  • isn't that the font from diablo by blizzard? :P

  • yeah

  • lol yeah, im sure Tolkien would have liked a full book on them too, after all Beren and Luthien are on his n his wifes gravestones. Rhadegarsk? Closest thing i can think of to that is Radagast the brown lol.

  • this vid is really really good, i almost had a tear in my eye with the story of turin turunbar. by the way the Children of hurin saga is not just an easy cash in it's really good although it focuses more on turin than on Tuor. who also has a really interesting story to tell

  • it dident focus on tuor at all

  • Thats cause it's the Children of Húrin, not Huor :p

  • Fair play, I was verry drunk when I wrote that comment. B-)

  • lol, a book on Tuor and his exploits would have been good too though.

  • That was basically my point, there is a bit in the unfinnished tales but not enough. dont get me started tho, what I really want is a full novel on Beren and luthien. A tale of Rhadegarsk (spelling suspect) would be sh*t hot too.

  • I admire author of this video. It is really good.

  • really good video!

  • Great work. respect!!!!

  • I wonder if someone will ever finally come up with an idea of filming more of Tolkien's writing. There are so many stories to be explored.Any of the following I'd love to see on the big screen(with no order of preference):The Children of Hurin,Beren and Luthien's quest for the Silmaril,of Tuor and the fall of Gondolin,of Numenor and its wars with Sauron, the War of Wrath,or even the dwarf-goblin wars which could serve as a sort of prelude to a full-length "The Hobbit" movie

  • Id love to see more of the Lays of Beleriand, especially a movie of Children of Húrin and Beren and Luthien's tale.

  • @gatheringoflight Some day it will happen. For now, Christopher Tolkien owns the film rights on his father's work (except on The LOTR and The Hobbit), and unless someone succeeds in convincing him that film adaptations are also a good way of getting people to read Tolkien's books, he doesn't want the stories to be put in a movie. Pity. Peter Jackson's films made me read (and buy) all of Tokien's works. Even The history of middle earth. :)

  • But who is Turin????

  • the main charachter

  • The child of Húrin, also a cousin to Tuor who was an important ancestor of many prominent character's in the tales of middle earth, Elrond and Aragorn included. You should look up the family tree's of the characters, its quite interesting and almost ever character has some tale or note of interest associated with them.

  • What's a big Thorondor :D and where is orcs in Nirnareth Arneodian??

  • yOU DESERVE A BLOODY AWARD FOR THIS VIDEO.

  • The Children of Hurin, was probably one of my favourite novels of all time

  • Awsome video but coild you please tell me what films are in it, i saw The Kingdom of Haeven, Lord of the rings, but i dont know the others could you tell me please

  • he also used the Movies Willow, King Arthur, the 13th warrior, Brave heart, the dragon slayer, last of the mohicans, the new world and Alexander from what i can recognize.

  • Thanks mate :)

  • also kingdom of heavens, ...

  • That...was...awesome...I almost wish I hadn't put up my own Turin video cuz this one is about 100x better than mine. Thank you for sharing. :D

  • What's the name of the song used in the beginning till 2:15? Which movie is it from?

  • The Prophecy from the Fellowship of the Ring

  • Hey, probably not the comment you wanted but may I ask? what font is that?

  • Exocet (font of diablo II)

  • This story is so tragic the end is so bad I liked more when the stories have good ending the hero can pass trials and tragidies but the end sucessed but no in this book man I stay days thinking about the book and fate of Turin Turambar and his family I hate when a hero I like dies in the end.

  • What are the name of all these movies? Please someone tell me?!

  • You should have put in the stuff of Turin in Doriath. I wanted to see who you would have chosen to play Thingol and Melian : D

  • i dont y i watch these vids coz theryre all pretty much the same. all it does is put already known faces (picked from other films) to characters. hav a part in lotr such as morwen, she was in the two towers and so was mablung.

other than that tho pretty gud vid

  • you do know that morwen in the two towers movie isn't the same morwen in the children of huring, right? and mablung in the two towers isn't the same mablung in the children of hurin.

  • yeah just like ther were 2 glorfindels

  • i'd like to know if this freakin' stuff is a movier thriller or not....

  • if there was a movie base on this book it would fuken kick ass !!!

  • Bellissimo U.U

  • Wow nice editting! love it^^ I love the book both Silmarillion and the Children of Hurin!.. Really glad to see Nienor. The book is worth to be made a movie.. If they really think to do so. *sad*

  • is this a compilation video

  • the book is fantastic and would make a great movie, except everyone dies in it

  • nicely done... except I can't picture Val Kilmer as Beleg Cuthalion

you know... there actually is enough material written that the Children of Hurin could actually be made into a movie except no one would financially back it =(

  • Are there any new parts in "The Children of Hurin"?I mean, something different from what Silmarillion and The Unfinished Tales tell about the Narn i Chîn Húrin?

  • There's a lot more stuff in it.

  • Haha, this song is from Warcraft 3 isnt it?

  • I hope they make a movie of this book

  • this was really cool! i read the book and your video does indeed do justice. fine job my friend :)

  • well Children of Húrin is a devided book but it is mentioned in silmarillion I think. As Silmarillion mostly are a fact book, telling you a lot of what happened long before lord of the rings and how the world was created etc..

  • does 'the children of hurin' take place before 'the silmarillion' ?

  • Yes

  • negative

  • Yes it is I comment yes by mistake I went to vacation after so I did have the time to corret it until now.But Zebiphobius did it.Lol

  • it's a story that takes place within the Silmarillion.. the Silmarillion is the tale of the exodus and the epic struggle of the elves who come to Middle Earth to battle the evil deity Melkor to regain possession of these sacred jewels known as the Silmarils - the Children of Hurin is a tragic tale that take place during these wars.

  • u should be a producer :), good choices

  • 13th warrior?

  • was that Wagner?

  • Beautifully crafted video.

  • Amazing job, especially considering how complicated the story is. You make us real LOTO fans very proud! Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!

  • it is really clever.

probably works better if you havent seen 'kingdom of heaven', but its great.

    5/5.

  • hermano no pudiste describir mejor a los hijos de hurin ...felicidades excelente trabajo de edicion ,eres un buen hiperboreo .

  • they have contests for trailer making you know. great job!

  • LOL Beleg didn't look like this in my mind when I read the book.

  • This is a beautiful piece of work. Congatulations

  • That was wonderful! Although the last song seemed to be ceaseless -- it was a great depiction! I especially love the first part with the LoTR music.

  • really good work man

  • how i wish someone to make Silmarillion the BEST MOVIE EVER!!! it's really Tolkien's lifework and his most dark creation."we have no buisness with dwarves since the dark days..." Haldir of lorien.well THESE ARE THE DARK DAYS! i live hoping to see that filmed day...-Auta i lome!

  • Hollywood would never get it right though :(

  • Fabulous! The story of the house of Hurin is tragically awesome. Btw from which movie are these clips from?

  • Anybody knows what is the music that starts at 02:50?

  • It's from the lord of the rings aragorn sings that at the ceremony of his coronation

  • Yes, there is a part with that, but I was talking about the classical music piece. It's so beautiful!

  • it seems like the soundtrack from Alexander the Great but I am not that sure.

  • it's howard shore from the lord of the rings, i'm positive

  • Wagner - Das Rheingold - its supposed to be a musical piece about a river where the Rheingold is protected by the 3 Rheinmaidens...the music is very appropriate.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Turin Turambar dagnir Glaurunga & Nienor Niniel...4 ever

  • Kudos to that! Just a wondrous book. Just another magical experience from J.R.R. and Son. Thank you Ronald and Christopher for my life's most treasured moments. I only wish the both of you lived as long as the Eldar so these tales would never end.

  • where was the dragon footage from?

  • Hi Brentwwod,

Yes, I would read The Silmarillion first. In fact, I wish I read The Sil before any of Tolkien's books. It's Tolkien's life work. The LOTR, The Hobbit etc. he wrote long after writing (most of) The Sil, and are all based on it.

The LOTR, The Hobbit, and The Children of Hurin are just "enlarged epics" taken from sections of The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is key to fully understanding anything else, including LOTR. And, it's the most beautiful book ever written.

  • But you really should read this book before you read the Silmarillion, or too much of this story will be given away.

  • @Posanne dint he make parts of hurin in the trentch in ww 1 or is it just me

  • Great Video amazing how you mixed the diff. movies very good.

  • Brilliant video. Great synthesis between the two soundtracks; very well accomplished.

  • Still strange to hear the words of Elendil, who came a few thousands year later, in a vid of the Narn, great choice though.

  • What do you mean? The vid is instrumental and the only words on screen are the quotes of Morgoth and Iluvatar.

  • I mean when you see Thorondor the eagle, you can hear on the background:

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinomë maruvan ar Hildinyar, tenn' ambar-metta!

Those words were the words of Elendil when he arrived at Middle Earth a few thousands years later.

  • Oh yes, Aragorn's coronation song, your quite right.

  • Only two i reconize is Kingdom of heaven and lord of the rings

  • what are the names of the movies in the vid?

  • this is a good start for the greatest work of tolkien to become a movie...thanx friend

  • Man, what a great piece of work you've done here... congratulations, really. Let's hope someone will soon make an actual series of movies with The Sillmarillion.

  • that would be amazing. I hope so too~

  • Nicely done. I would change the casting of Beleg, Gwindor and Turin; they all looked quite mannish rather than elfin to me (and even elves, supposedly, could mistake Turin for a Noldo).

  • yeah, I agree, I definitely pictured Beleg...cleaner and "prettier" lol. He was one of my favorite characters.

  • turin is a man, dumbass

  • Maybe you didn't read what I put in parentheses in my comment. Either that, or you don't know that a Noldo is an elf. However, either way, fuck off.

  • i wish they make a movie of this...it will be awesome..especially the battle of unnumbered tears!we'll get to see durin!!!yeah!

  • Fucking fantastic, please make more!

  • I don´t like Collin Farrel as Turin , all characters are fine , but Turin and Hurin don´t!!!!! Hurin in more blond, maybe some one like huor, but Farrel as Turin, please noooooooooo....

  • I don´t like Collin Farrel as Turin , all characters are fine , but Turin and Hurin don´t!!!!!

  • That was a great video, the characters were pretty close to how i imagined them, it was a very clever use of all those movies.

  • I dislike fake trailers they are usually pretty lame, this is okay but was it really worth the time?

  • I dislike fake trailers they are usually pretty lame, this is okay but was it really worth the time?

  • who was nienor? i mean the actress

  • @yeyolopez I think 'Nienor' is Siena Miller, right? The one change I'd make to the casting of this superb video is switching her with the actress playing Finduilas - Siena can certainly pass as a relation of Finarfin, Galadriel, Finrod et al!

  • great job! one problem though. beleg didn't look very elvish

  • very very good love all the movies you used, what is the music? especially the score towards the end?

  • I believe it's all LOTR-score.

  • alright i found out!, it is all lotr except for the last song which is wagner, prelude to das rheingold, which is actually really fitting considering the saxon/norse influence on lotr,

  • good vid man!

  • this book is great, realy!!!!!

  • that nienor was hot :P

  • i pictured Nienor as like Alexis Bledel and Turin as Hadyen Christensen lol

  • Perfect music choice as well, kainrath. You really knew what you are doing.

    This really stirs my soul.

  • This is one of the most wonderful things that I have seen. Thank you *SO* much for making it and posting it kainrath. I read the Silmarillion after The Hobbit and LOTR, then Unfinished Tales and many other posthumously published works of his. I read them 25 years ago and have always considered The Silmarillion Tolkien's finest work, by far. I just connected with it more that the other works for some reason. I really hope a movie/series might be in the future before I pass on. Thanks again.

  • Great video.

Does one read The Chilren of Hurin after The Silmarillion?

I have read The Hobbit, FOTR, TT, and ROTK

but nothing else, so am a bit limited.

  • hey listen this is how i would read them: The Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin, Unfinished Tales, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings

  • I really do appreciate the advice.

I have read The Hobbit, FOTR, TT, and ROTK

but would like to know what happen before

    the War of the Ring.

Am particularly interested in the elves.

I understand there are several parts to The Unfinished Tales?

  • well actually if u like history and stuff there are books called The History of Middle-earth and theres Book of Lost Tales part 1 and 2, The Lays of Beleriand, The Shaping of Middle-earth, The Lost Road and Other Writings, The Return of the Shadow, The Treason of Isengard, The War of the Ring, Sauron Defeated, Morgoth's Ring, War of Jewels, and The Peoples of Middle-earth. But the more novel-like books are The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The Hobbit and the 3 LotR

  • LOL. I read The Return of The King first, the Children of Hurin second, and just recently, the Hobbit. Now I'm planning to read the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion afterwards.

  • 1. Hobbit

    2. Lord of the Rings trilogy

    3. The Silmarillion

    4. Unfinished Tales [including the Lays of Beleriand, etc.]

Slappybags94's idea is really good if you want to go for pure chronological order of events; but I think that reading the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales AFTER gives the reader that great Tolkien allure of "looking back" rather than having them as stand-alone works; just an opinion of course. Happy reading!

  • yeah thats what i actually did do, ur right lol

  • Agreed

  • I need to get and read this book. Because I am such a Tolkien fan.

  • wow there is clips for many movies in this trailer: Gladiator, Alexander the great, lotr, the 13th warrior, kingdom of heaven, brave heart, king Arthur, the last morikan

  • Five Stars and Favorited.

And if I had the power to make the movie, you'd have the budget and the job tomorrow....

  • So who is the actress used for Nienor in this 'preview'? I've looked through all the comments and no-one has answered that question.

  • i think the clip's from last of the mohicans. i think she played the sister that jumped off the cliff (which makes sense!).

  • Not bad! well done actualy.the only thing missing was Turin's suicide using his sword Gurthang. And actually It's Chin Hurin not Hin Hurin, but Tolkien's son was sure people would pronounce it chin instead of correct pronunciation 'Hin' in Sindarin so he changed it.

  • its supposed to be based on some parts of the silmarillion, dumbass.

  • i've never even bought it, fuckhole, im just showing my point, in that the children of hurin explains some things that weren't shown in the silmarillion. if you're a die-hard tolkien fan, you would buy it. its not about being "stupid" or w/e.

  • i love the book. yes it is an extended version of the story in the silmarillion, but it is an excellent story and i would reccommend it to anyone. anyway, mine cost about £12 i think and its an illustated version. well worth the money in my opinion.

it would make a good film i hope they do make one.

  • the only book by tolkien they can EVER make properly into a movie would be the hobbit, but that's only because it's more of a children's book.

  • great job!!

  • Willow, Kingdom of Heaven, King Arthur, Dracula, LOTR, Braveheart, The 13th Warrior, The New World,Alexander, any I missed?

  • i think you missed the last of the mohicans (daniel day lewis as gwindor), passion of the christ (monica bellucci as morwen), the mission (robert de niro as sador). dunno where the dragon's from

  • Great video and effort.

For me, no movie can reproduce what you feel when read these masterpieces (silmarillion, children of hurin, the lost road, lotr, the hobbit, etc).

    Hail Hurin & Fingolfin !

  • havent read the book but brilliant. just wondering wat films did you use?

  • loved it. personally i would like to see a movie about the tale of hurin's children happen. its not as epic as LOTR but its much more darker and tragic. p.s cant believe you chose colin farrell as turin. he's just not dark or tall enough

  • Good video!

I had hoped to see Turin kill Glaurung but it's great anyway!

  • i thought the same wen i read the sillmarillion..be great movies..but difficult 2 make 1 or many that would give proper respect 2 the book.i vary good writer and director would be needed..and lots of money.

  • This video is like a quilt. So many patches from different films. Great effort tho. Well done!

  • lacho calad, drego morn!

  • Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar, tenn' Ambar-metta!

  • I hope they make a movie somethey good job on the trailer

  • Beautyfull, a very good choice to begin with: Behold! The shadow of my thought shall lie upon them wherever they go, and my hate shall pursue them to the ends of the world.

If there ever comes a vid they should begin with that, while you see morgoth pointing to beleriand when Húrin was ther and saying that. Then you see where he is pointing at but it's a trailer so you see Húrin and Huor on the eagles to Gondolin. Just an idea I had :P Nice work and thanks for this.

  • i can remember Braveheart, The 13th Warrior and Kingdom of Heaven ^^

    nice :)

    very cool.

    enjoyed it :)

  • really amazing

  • Great!

  • Stunning.

  • I Love this! Well done! *applauds* I do hope they make a movie of it eventually.

  • I especially loved the use of Wagner's Prelude to Das Rheingold in the second half... Wagner's music and Tolkien's images... beautiful combination!

  • Very Very cool!

  • this really does you credit..I hope this movie gets made someday

  • Wow, this was beatiful and poetic, loved it! And Colin Farrel as Turin, great choice, perfect "casting" ! Lots of great actors and movies included in this one. I also always imagines tales from the Silmarillion in this poetic , gritty mood.

  • I think Turin is the most awsome character on the Silmarillion, and it drove me mad to know he will finally avenge his family's curse during Dagor Dagorath (The Battle of Battles), stabing Melkor to his death! Let's prey they make a good movie based on Narn i Chîn Húrin, with, of course, Dagor Dagorath in the end!

  • yes a movie based on Narn I Chin Hurin would be really really cool wich actor would you think is the best to do the character of Turin ???

  • I would chose a young character for, according with my calculations, Túrin was in his thirties when he died

  • is this a real movie?

  • no, it's combination of stars from many famous movies! wow! even from "The Last of the Mohican"!
