i've always thought bill maher was a bit of an asshole lol, but i agree 110% with everything he says pretty much. I just wouldn't be as direct about it lol. But then again, where i live, there's close to no religious people, so i don't really ever have any big discussions about religion. The coclusion:
90% of my class was in favour of this movie although they really had no good argument at all.
And believe me, If you think about it with a neutral point of view and discuss it without any prejudices you will see that it is a draw.

i grew up in italy. going to a catholic school with nuns, religion classes, and mass. yet, i always questioned what they were saying and as hard as i tried, i just couldn't believe it. i wanted to believe, but none of it made sense. so i ended up spending a lot of time with my desk in the hall for asking too many questions. my point is, the excuse that it's what people grow up learning, doesn't fly. if that were the case, i should be a nun. religion should be classified as a mental illness.

Science makes Religion a bit redundant but not useless at all.
I think the time when the bible was written is important, too, because most of the stories fit in this time and not in ours.

that my friend is disturbing. if one values the afterlife so much- they don't care for life on this earth for anyone who thinks differently.
your "god" has negative personality traits that even people learn to overcome.

Bill Maher is great, He puts things simply and clearly, without condescension. The movie is great too. Hilarious when he visits the jesus amusement park in Florida with the reenactment of christ bearing the cross, purely hilarious, in the most childish way. Thanks for watching!

@bkvs Yes, it is common sense, but in science common sense should be used with a grain of salt. However, we dont just have common sense telling us that a smarter person will generally believe less bullshit, we have statistics to back it up. Ive even seen national news cover it and say that people with a higher education not only go to church less often, they dont beleieve the claims of religious dogma.

Theocracies are dictatorships. A seperation of church and state must always be maintained. The same be said for government imposed athieism like what happend in the U.S.S.R. The party became the religion. The people must be permitted to belive what they want to. As long as it doesnt effect political policies and laws. Freedom of belief is a basic human right. But not a right that you can abuse to impose on others.

i grew up in italy. going to a catholic school with nuns, religion classes, and mass. yet, i always questioned what they were saying and as hard as i tried, i just couldn't believe it. i wanted to believe, but none of it made sense. so i ended up spending a lot of time with my desk in the hall for asking too many questions. my point is, the excuse that it's what people grow up learning, doesn't fly. if that were the case, i should be a nun. religion should be classified as a mental illness.

I can't even watch those sociopaths. That people like that have the power to influence anyone with more brain cells than a french fry, is deeply disturbing.
And just for the record, I was terribly insecure and had my share of emotional problems, and I would think I'd be the ideal "convert" because I was so needy. I mean, my parents are fucking republicans and voted for mccain, for crying out loud. they are racist, elitist, and hypocrites, but not really religious. my sister is just like them.

I make mistakes as do most parents, but my son has grown up to be a open-minded and caring man..A mom has to brag!:)
I have friends that grew up in strict Catholic homes with beatings for being late from school.
They have spent a good time of their life in therapy, mccainisthrough is right on the child abuse that can go with religion.
BTW..I was diagnosed with PTSD also and can relate to you on that to!:)

You're exactly right. Atheists are about 16% in America right now, and as you said, have doubled in size from 1990. In England, a much older country, 66% of citizens do not believe in god/s. In America it's the reverse, but in time, it will be similar. As people become educated they move away from organized religion. Einstein was an Atheist for good reason. Thanks for watching!
