@Morgy09 "Listen" was definitely written for the movie. It was *not* in the original production. In fact, Beyonce was nominated for an Oscar for it (she co-wrote it) and they only nominate song written originally for a movie. However, this version is very different than the movie. Instead of being Deena's breakaway song, it is about Deena and Effie's reconciliation after many years apart. It's so much more effective and emotional than the movie version!

@ferosha99 You are absolutely correct Ferosha! "Listen" was originally co-written by Beyonce for the film and brilliantly modified for this latest stage revival. Beyonce performed "Listen" as a solo in the movie, but she and Jennifer Hudson sang the song as a duet as part of a Dreamgirls medley at the Oscars.

There is a limited number of writers that can be accredited for writing nominations. Being that there were too many writers accredited she was nominated because they decided that she did the least amount of writing, so she was not nominated. But she was nominated for the Golden Globe.

"Listen" is among several songs added for the film, including "Love You I Do," "Patience" and "Perfect World." "Listen" however was the only song included to the new onstage production of dreamgirls. The 4 songs mentioned was never part of the original Broadway play which one of the original cast then was Jeniffer Holiday.

I feel like you guys are misinformed. These are the original lyrics to the Broadway play. The movie screenplay was adapted for film. The Listen Beyonce sings is the edited and amended version.

The play was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can't we just support these young ladies that are actually fulfilling their dreams unlike most of us criticizing them!!!! Why compare these ladies to Beyonce and Jennifer? In order to do a real comparison, they would have to sing the same song and the same words. Effie in the movie didn't sing Listen and as WonderGirl732 said this is revised. The words are different.

I just went to this show in Chicago... I was impressed with everyone, it was my first broadway show! Moya really knocked it out of the park though! She was the only one who received a standing O. Her "And I'm Telling You" was truly remarkable singing/performing! Excellent woman.
