Wish I could find the quote but I recall Everett True reviewed this track for the Melody Maker with the observation its mediocrity reflected the self-loathing of the English working-class. An interesting if contentious observation, except for the 'mediocrity' bit. Drab enough for hell's jukebox.
..biggest hit to date - there's no justice, Cast, this is pretty shit. Its all chorus and fill. They had a load of much better stuff, to me this i just like an unfinished song thed thought 'fuck it, Knebworth liked it' and put it out.
Skin was brilliant back in the Days he was playing in Pyramid Dream, Ive still got a bootleg from the Bow and Arrow, he used to teach guitar in Rice Lane commo used to sit off in his flat now an then, top bloke made up he is Playing with Plant.
Cast are my main memory from getting into music as a teenager, their songs got me through a lot. Skin Tyson is the man, he should have had a lot more recognition back in the day I'm glad he's playing for a leg' like Plant.
Yeah, Skin is awesome, definitely one of my fave players. He was playing stuff back in the 90s that no other guitarist of that era could touch creatively ('History' anyone? I can play Van Halen stuff, but still can't figure out the tapping riffs on that song). I saw Cast twice and saw Skin with Robert Plant, just brilliant
how do you play it? I can play the riff with a pick, but haven't figured out the tapping pattern.....I'd heard he tunes to DADGAD for it, and I don't know exactly what effect he uses
fook john power, his songs are ok but without 'skin tyson' an the rest of the band hes shite,he plays shitty venues in st helens now, while skins off playing guitar with robert plant,i bet that put a dent in mr powers pride!!!
I loved cast.Seen them live a few times. They were a great live band.I think John power's songs were great but do agree that Liam "skin" Tyson and Keith O'neil were a BIG part of the sound."Skin" is an amazing guitarist. One of my favourite guitarists actually.
if i remember this was a one of single out at the end of 96.the album mother nature calls came out the following summer, another great and underrated british band, john power's a fine songwriter.
This should have been on the 'Mother Nature Calls' album, I'm sure it would've been better received by the critics. By the way...anyone heard the hidden track on that album? It's WEIRD!
agree that their melodies are very catchy and melodic. The only problem is their lyrics - totally cliched, boring, everyman, say everything and nothing in one.......there#s nothing he has to say that is new or interesting
Another good example of the classic youtube lowest common denominator poster "you disagree with me therefore fuck you, you are a cunt" type of approach. Grow up and learn how to have a mature debate where you can cope with having your views challenged without throwing a tantrum.
Toured with 'Cast' through the nineties..John Power is a top bloke.I was a roadie for 'Cast' when they supported U2 at Roundhay..John still owes me for six pint of Stella LOL
oh wow!! i love this song, gotta love these upbeat cheery scousers!! Britpop and the 90's were awesome, if only music these days was half as good, they were such a great band!!

amen! Most bands I'm fan of, began in the 90's (or earlier)
ZackCells 2 years ago
@ZackCells I second that. RATM, Smashing Pumpkins, these guys, all made the 1990s a great period to grow up in.

My favorite song by one of my favorite bands. A forgotten classic.
Swoooze 4 years ago 4
Clearly the most underrated band of the 90's. Why can't more bands be as upbeat these days.
P.S. thought he WASN'T singing live until the end of the first chorus. that's how good they were live!
