In 1955 Roger Williams made the song a #1 hit in the United States, the only piano instrumental to reach number one and remain in that position for four weeks.
RIP Roger and thanks for all the music you left us.
This is the first time I ever heard of this man. I am in my fifties. I am well acquainted with classical and orchestral music. I am familiar with many composers and their solo piano works, Prokofiev and Shostakovich to name a couple. This guy got to enjoy a lot of fame and celebrity. I have never of this version of "Autumn leaves" I know of so many pianists who are world class, but their names are not recognizable to many. This man played in front of presidents!!! Where have I been all my life?
R.I.P. Roger Williams! You were truly one of the greatest of all time! I'm only 17 and I love your music. Thanks for all the great recordings you were able to share with us while you were still here.
why would you say something like that on here? not very polite. He was a great pianist that played beautiful music on the piano for so many people to enjoy.
My most favorite piano performer died today at the age of 87 years old....You brought me many moments of joy.....May your spirit and music live forever, Roger Williams...
Thanks God for giving us Roger Williams the American living legend and the best arranger and piano player in the history of any piano artist on this earth. Thank You Roger for your Autumn Leaves hit. I love you arrangement of Misty , Feelings and The girl from Ipanema. Get Well Soon Mr. Williams . I pray for your fast recovery . God Bless ! ! ! by Rex G
A #1 hit for Roger Williams. It would finish at #4 for the year 1955. 1955 was the year that the music scene changed forever. On July 9, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era. This hit went to #1 on October 29, becoming the 4th #1 hit of the Rock Era. It also remains the only piano instrumental to hit #1 on the Top 40 charts. So I guess that RW is a part of Rock History.
We could stay here forever...Most enjoyable piece..This takes the viewer to a place of PuRe Enjoyment..relaxation and appreciation of Profess. sound..Excellent
Does anyone have a tutorial on the introduction showing the fingering for the long rum he does on Falling Leaves?
