I liked it, but I wish he stuck to the original syncopation a little bit more. I'm all for putting your own twist on it, but it seemed like he kept on waiting until the very last second to able to say everything in the text.
He does a great job. It looks as if he's got grease or something streaked across the left side of his face and his forehead--does anyone know what that is?
This is my favorite Javert, of the ones I've seen. I saw him on Broadway, and he was so perfect for the role -- always very controlled, but savage, stalking, like a wild animal ready to pounce and not going to waste any motion until the proper moment. His voice was great, too. I wish I could find more clips of his Javert performance! Also, for the record, he didn't always "talk" so much of the part; I think when I saw him, he sang more. He just kept it very spontaneous, very alive.
I know this may get me bullied for a few weeks, but I don't think he is very good at all. Just my opinion of course, and I accept he is better than I could ever be, but Quast is my benchmark and to be honest this guy isn't even close.
No that is def. Ben Davis. I saw Ben Davis and this is def. him. The way he sings this is pretty unique and his face is too pointy to be Ben Crawford.
I've been a fan of Ben's ever since he played Enjolras on the tour. Thank you for posting this. Horrible what they did to the orchestrations for this revival, though.
Ben is the first Javert I'd ever seen live. He was great. Although he does have this weid habbit of speaking/singing out of one side of his mouth haha.
My best friend and I saw him in Spamalot and he was absolutely brilliant. He does such an amazing job of really making you feel it whether he's going for laughs or tragedy. We actually got to talk to him for awhile after we saw him in Spamalot, too, and he's such a nice guy!
The broadway revival SUCKED simple as that hahaha. I think they thought maybe he was yonger in Toulon at the begigging at the show than they originally thought. Must remeber Trevor Nunn didn't stage the revival with John Caird
No, that was Ben Crawford (another really good Javert).
Ben Davis was cast as the principal Javert after Norm left the show but due to creative differences with the producers he left in June and Ben Crawford and Drew alternated the role until Robert Hunt came in.
is he the guy that swaped with drew every day on broadway? i don't ike him thagt much terrence and roger and norm and all the others are all alittle better

Ben ROCKED it as Javert just as he did as Marcello and Enjolras and currently Galahad! Kick ass, Ben.

I saw him when he played Galahand in Spamalot. He's really a fantastic performer.

Hmm...I don't like it. I think the first part sounds horrible...he's half talking it, then the parts he does sing sound way off.
I agree that is really weird that they didn't age Javert, it makes no sense. Wonder why that was?

what i don't get is why they didn't age Javert in the Revival at all ESPICALLY when Robert Hunt was Javert the man looked early 20's the whole show
Fiyero06 3 years ago
A slightly different interpretation - more animated with superb facial expressions.
I think it was brilliant!

what problems did he have with the producers
rangerfan924 4 years ago
Maybe with that high octive he did during the Suicide?

No that was the new orchestrations. The producers were dumb enought o hand the orchestations to 1 of Bon Jovis band members
