@1sk89 It's actually very easy, all you do for a basic stable flash powder is mix up a 50/50 ratio (by weight) Mg (magnesium) / KNO3 (Potassium nitrate) the higher mesh you have, the faster it will burn, resulting in a better explosion etc.

@tirlangaa Trust me, big or small, it does not matter, flash powder will always win, and you can tell the difference even in this small quantity demonstration.

@1smokeboy I tried both granulated and meal powder, both had the same effect in this particular size/testing. All I'm saying is Flash powder is a beast of its own when it comes to comparing both compounds. In this video it was meal powder not granulated, granulated was way less powerful since granulated is used for lift powder and not a sealed explosive structure.

@sohy3010 yep, example 0.10g KNO3 0.10g Mg. Use the diaper paper method when mixing, never use a ball mill.

@sohy3010 Well, not really no, it's actually the most stable, and safest flash powder you can make, but it's still much more powerful than black powder/gunpowder which makes it perfect for salutes, firecrackers etc.

@sohy3010 potassium perchlorate and aluminum (Dark pyro grade) 70/30 is louder I have found potassium chlorate magnesium 50/50 seems louder still but I'm told it is much less stable.Look on pyroguide under compositions. have fun!!

@martyn347 In a cannon/mortar type set up, always use a granulated black powder, just regular BP ratio granulated, it gives off a great deal of gas and pushes/launches objects better than flash powder which has a high fps but barely any gas or lifting force.

@martyn347 Do not use flash powder in a cannon, it is very sensitive and dangerous. Black powder will work better anyways. Depending on your cannon flash powder could blow the whole thing up!. Do not attempt it, besides even if it doesn't burst your cannon when you fire it, it will be VERY dangerous to load. Just stay away from it all together.

@Zander2528 You could, but you would have to calculate the correct amount, I'd recommend granulated black powder for lift, its the #1 best lift powder, cheap/easy to make.

It will blow your tube up instead of lifting the shell, Granulated BP burns at the perfect speed, it will lift your shell with ease and not split your tube or damage the shell as it lifts.Firework manufacturers will NEVER use flash as a lift. You will never ever see it being used. Do not attempt it.

Gun powder is not Black Powder.

-Gun PowderIs a nitrocellulose based mix.

Black powder is a Kno3- Charcoal - Sulphur mix.

The only one similarity is that both are flammable / high deflagration .

Black pwder should be kept towards propellants for shells, rockets, guns etc. in my opinion....

BP-Works by making a lot of smoke, very fast, which makes the gases expand inside of its cartidge and propells out the bullet or explodes the firecracker.

FP-It isn't actually the smoke off of FP that makes the boom but the shear fact that the heat off of it expands the air around it EXTREMELY FAST (some fp i heard can get up to 2000m/s) which just blows away everything around it.
