Nintendo's shareholders must be old men who never have played games.
Because when things don't go well it is the shareholders who kick up the most stink because they invested a tone of money into Nintendo and they expect results.
That is why most american games look all the same and it would be dissapointing if Japanese shareholders go down that same rute.
I have seen Nintendo come out from the Gamecube Days and they were in a worse possition back then.
3DS has been epic fail so far but it's early to judge because Christmas is when these things kick off, hence why most games consoles usually show up September-November time. After the price drop and Christmas it might be a different story.
The GAMES need to go down in price, not the system. I haven't bought one because the games on my iPhone are max £2, 3DS games sometimes exceed £30. Don't say '3DS games are deeper' becuase you guys haven't played some of the iPhone games I have.
@jasamdomo Not an argument dude, just saying, like 60 hours of game I'd probably do on my Wii or my PS3, I wouldn't buy a portable console to spend 60 hours on, and I wouldn't pay £30 for the shorter, handheld-oriented games which are more suited to a handheld, and apparently neither would others. Stuff like Dead Space on iPhone is just as good as it would be on 3DS but it's less than a 10th of the price, that's what stops me from getting a 3DS.
I am really sick of hearing about those greedy shareholders!!!!... I hope Nintendo keeps Iwata in office for a long time and that this is just a rumor
Well for the Royal f*** up that was the 3DS and the Wii U reveal, I think it is logical.
Even though the 3DS had a good start, the disinterest of the consumers for it was obvious from the start while The PSP, though starting out bad, actually sells well and outsells the 3DS every week, the same goes for the DS.
However I think not only Iwata should go, but Miyamoto, Sakamoto and Sakurai as well. And as long as Yamauchi is not coming back it can only get better afterwards.
@mariojuggernaut22 I doubt it will actually sell constantly at the current rate, which is still below the DS. Price cuts never worked for a long period of time and never will, this is why the developers are jumping the sinking ship.
FYI the 3DS has been outselling everything, from consoles to handhelds, since the price drop worldwide on a weekly basis. It's been dropping, but the drop hasn't been drastic.
Also, Miyamoto leaving Nintendo. That's a good joke.
You realize he's on the board of directors, right?
@jasamdomo Yes I know the right now the 3DS is selling better, but the sales started to drop again, what essentially means that the price is only a small part of the problem.
Miyamoto should be fired for what he is doing to Nintendo right now aka. refusing to make gameshe should, and instead doing whatever he wants.
@droppingpenny Dude, Miyamoto makes some games you don't like so what. That doesn't mean he should be fired. He's a game designer, he can make whatever the hell he wants.
@droppingpenny Yamuchi was a fucking dick. Ever since the N64, he started being an asshole. Which in turn, was causing the company to go downhill. Then Iwata came to the rescue & saved nintendo. Also, the day Miyamoto, Sakamoto, & Sakurai go would be the death of the Nintendo we know & love.
@TheMisterManGuy Yamauchi is one of the people I don't want to return, as said in the post above, his obsession with 3D caused Nintendo to go downhill, but he at least left the Handheld line alone and this could prosper and secure Nintendos stability to some extent. iwata on the Other Hand was behind the Disruption Strategy and the Wii but abandoned it very quickly to continue Yamauchis direction and extrapolating it on to the Handhelds.
@TheMisterManGuy If Miyamoto, Sakamoto, Aonuma and Sakurai leave it will get better, only of course if the People who will be in charge instead go in the opposite direction with the consoles. As i personally see it Miyamoto, Aonuma and Sakamoto are doing a pretty good job at killing Nintendo, so if they leave nobody will notice.
@droppingpenny How exactly are they killing nintendo? they're just game designers. If Miyamoto leaves, no more mario. If Sakamoto leaves, no more metroid & warioware. If Sakurai leaves, no more Smash Bros. Is that what you want your Nintendo to be like?
@TheMisterManGuy If they leave they will be replaced by someone else so the games will still come, and honestly I'd rather have no more Metroid then Metroid Other M. And I prefer less Overly long storylines in my SSB.
@droppingpenny Other M was a great game & don't say "ZOMG THEY MADE SAMUS EMOTIONAL" Samus has always been like that. Didn't you read the metroid manga? The script for other M was handled by Sakamoto. You don't have to play though subspace emisary if you don't want to, there are plenty of other modes you can do in Brawl.
@TheMisterManGuy Sorry, i overlooked the Other M part: Other M is a franchise killer for several reasons:
It abandoned the Metroid Gameplay Mechanics and Leveldesign in favor of Story and Cutscenes, It kills Samus's character, because even people who are defending other M know deep down, that Samus is actrually you, the player and nobody else. Giving her Emotions and Dialogue detaches the player form the game and character. And again, nobody asked for this and nobody cared since it bombed.
@droppingpenny Well, Nintendo wanted to flesh out samus more. I don't think she was ever intended to be silent or represent the player. The classic metroid gameplay is still here, but just been watered down a little to make room for the story. Just because there was 1 game you didn't like doesn't mean it automatically kills the franchise.
@TheMisterManGuy A Franchise Killer is a game that makes people lose interest in the Franchise, this is what Other M did. Nintendo wanted one thing, but people who actualkly buy these games wanted something else there is the crucial point. The Classic Metroid Gameplay is nowhere to be found in Other M, maybe you mean the controlls but even these are not as well though out, they metroid Gameplay mechanics were stripped away completely. No Exploration, no Powerups, no World.
@droppingpenny Even though other m was more guided than previous entries, it still has basic metroid mechanics. Power ups are still existent & your free to roam around the environment. You may not have liked other m, but it still has the feeling of a metroid game, at least IMO.
@TheMisterManGuy Noper there are no power ups. A power up should increase your strength and is optional, when it's scripted it's not a power up.
Free Roam? This is a joke right? Other M is a series of straight corridors there is no world to roam free. and most of the door are closed anyway until a scripted event happens. It didn't feel like Metroid it just looked like it, but it felt like Metal Gear Solid. If it was a real Metroid Game people would buy it like they did with prime.
@droppingpenny Other m's free roam is like 2D metroid's, you can go & find missile & health expansions (which are the power ups I'm talking about) which can add replay value & exploration. Super Mario 3D Land plays like SMB3 in a 3D environment.
@TheMisterManGuy This just shows you didn't really play the Orifginal NES of Super Metroid since in a 3D Metroid you actually have a complete WORLD MAP where you can get lost because of the sheer size of it.
I Played Super Mario 3D Land, and this statement couldn't be further from the truth because SMB 3 had a fast paced arcade gameplay while super mario 3D Land has a slow and tedious puzzle based gameplay.
@droppingpenny I DID play super metroid, & I felt other m had similar style. I'm not saying it's the exact same thing, but it has the feeling of a metroid game to me. How were you able to play Super Mario 3D Land? were you at E3? Comic-con? gamescom?
@TheMisterManGuy Well if you played Super Metroid, then the glaring flaws of the Other M Gameplay Mechanics should be very obvious to you, other than superficially Other M has nothing to do with Super Metroid.
I Played Super Mario 3D Land and other Nintendo Games at the gamescom 2011
Like I said, it's not the same thing as Super metroid, but the setup & area progression had the metroid vibe to it. You may not have liked 3D land, but the hands on impressions I read said it felt like a mix between NSMB, SMB3, & Galaxy.
@TheMisterManGuy The things I noticed in Other M: No World just a very small map, Linear progression, scripted events, (opposite of Metroid), Unskippable cutscenes, badly written story, bad voice acting.
The staples of the Metrodi Series: Big coherent world, player driven progression and earning the power ups is gone.
3dLand: It doesn't play like NSMB or SMB3, hands on reports say this only because people who do these never played these games and think the tanooki suit equals SMB3.
@droppingpenny Well Personally think the voice acting was decent. As for the story, I only played the demo but from what I heard, it's good as well. I've seen gameplay of 3D Land & it looks like a Mario platformer to me.
@TheMisterManGuy Well as i wrote before it looks like one but doesn't play like one, and that is the big problem, that always plagued the 3D Mario games.
@droppingpenny Well, 3D mario games to me always played like 3D platformers. If it didn't feel like it to you thats fine, but it fells like it to other people.
@TheMisterManGuy About the Metroid Manga: No I didn't read the Manga, and so didn't the fans of the games. because there was a reason the Manga was never translated into any other language: It is not relevant to the games and nobody cared for it in Japan. People cared as little for it as the three Sakamoto games Fusion, Zero Mission and Other M. The True Successor to Super Metroid was Metroid Prime, and people knew it, hence the sucess. the only thing Sakamoto could do is retcon the continuity.
@TheMisterManGuy He wrote off the Prime Games as a Spinnoff, even though the first was clearly a continuation of the NES original, just to make his games more relevant on paper. So as far as I'm concerned this guy did as much damage to Nintendo as Miyamoto who effectively decreased the interest in Mario with each game.
@droppingpenny How did miyamoto decreased interest? He makes a mario game for every nintendo system. Again, I really don't see how they're "destorying" Nintendo they doing just fine.
@TheMisterManGuy The release of Super Mario 64 decreased the Mario Customers from 27mln to 12 Mln. Super mario Sunshine sold around 6 Mln, Super Mario Galaxy around 5mln... If that is not decreasing interest, then I don't know what. In Comparison NSMB Wii sold 25 Mln. on both systems and it was not done by miyamoto.
@droppingpenny I thought you said Miyamoto was losing interest. 5 million copies isn't really that bad, in fact thats actually pretty good. I't may not have been a system seller, but it didn't bomb like Disaster: Day of Crisis.
@TheMisterManGuy You just said it yourself: "Maybe it wasn't a System Seller" Well this is your prove Miyamoto is ruining Mario. because MARIO WAS ALWAYS A SYSTEM SELLER until it went to 3D. Also you didn't oay attention to the constantly decreasing sales with each installment. This is not how it works when you franchise is successfull. NSMB on the other Hand was done by someone else and sold 25 and 23 Mln. Now tell who actually got it right: Miyamoto or the NSMB developers?
@TheMisterManGuy Well Disaster day of Crisis, was certainly not a hit, but Monolith learned from their mistakes and made Xenoblade. Miyamoto didn't learn and made Super Mario 3D Land.
@droppingpenny Why is Super Mario 3D land bad to you? It looks great. It's not Miyamoto's fault that the 3D games don't sell as much (they're criticly acclaimed), I would blame that on the fact that most people don't like change.
@TheMisterManGuy Super Mario 3D Land superficially looks like Mario but plays like something else, that is enough reason to decrease interest in the franchise. I would blame it on Miyamoto, because beleive it or not, I think a developer should actually make games that people want instead of having change for changes sake. But that's just silly me.
@TheMisterManGuy How they are ruining Nintendo: Well miyamoto was the guy behind The N64 and the 3DS, and both console mark the breakdown of Nintendos markets. N64 is when the console Market started to collapse and 3DS is when the Handheld market started to collapse, he is also refusing to make games that sell aka. 2D Mario. he didn't make a single one since Super Mario World. NSMB and NSMB Wii were made entirely different people, so what purpose does he serve exactly? No purpose at all.
@TheMisterManGuy Aonuma has already killed the interest into the Zelda franchise, if he goes it will only get better. Because then somebody who actually cares about the franchise will be put in charge. In case you didn't know: Aonuma hates the first 4 Zelda games.
@jasamdomo None of his games were inspired by a Link to the Past. And no it's not a rumour, he stated in several interviews, that he doesn't like oldschool Zelda and prefers Grafical Adventures and Puzzle Games. This is why none of his Games actually feel like Zelda games.
Actually, yes, Zelda inspired at least one of his games:
''Marvelous was influenced by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past [1]. The player controls three boys across the land by the bird's-eye view. A command window will pop up whenever the player encounter an object or person. The window will give the player choices on what to do with the person or thing, like picking up objects, talking, or reading.''
@jasamdomo Yes maybe it was influenced Superficially by a Link to the Past but I have yet to see a single game from Aonuma where doesn't screw the Zelda Gameplay Mechanics and Level design sideways just to shoehorn his puzzle and dungeon based design into them. The Top Down Perspective aside the description of Marvelous sounds more like Maniac Mansion than anything else and certainly not like ALttP.
@droppingpenny Hmm.. Been reading your guys' discussion since I like Zelda, but I don't know which games you're talking about where Aonuma screwed the games up. When did he start, and how did they differ from the older games so much they were subpar in your eyes?
@soridosuneku I was talking the Aonuma Quadrilogy: Majoras Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.
How They differ from the older games? The Older Games were about exploration, combat survival and discovery, aonumas games are about solving puzzles. He increases the Puzzle aspect with every single game.
He Started in Majoras Mask by removing the coherend World of Ocarina of Time and replacing it with essentially one small town and now even enemys are puzzles in SW.
@droppingpenny Oh.. I haven't played those games yet. Glad you had the patience to tell me this instead off scoffing when I said I liked Zelda and didn't know what games you were talking about. I'm actually pretty new to Zelda (first games were OoT and A Link to the Past).
In terms of exploration, they said they're trying to make the old overworld-dungeon-overworld design more seamless and feel more connected to each other in SS. This might solve your issue of a lack of exploration.
@droppingpenny As for combat survival, I'm not sure how that has differed. Enemies basically follow you and sort of attack you 'till you take 'em out or enter a cave and are free for a while. I guess I can't really say since the only new games I've played are the two DS games. I do think though that it's a little too soon to talk about SS.
@soridosuneku The problems starts in the design: OoT had introduced the "Dungeon-Overworld-Dungeon" design but the Overworld was clearly the main are aof the game and dungeons were what they were supposed to be, a break up from the norm. Aonumas deisgn involves dungeons as the main areas and no World. I played skyward sword at gamescom 2011 and the World was virtually nonexistent and replaced with more dungeons.
@droppingpenny That was the Skyloft part though. The land below Skyloft is supposed to be more open and seamless like I said before. At some point, Skyloft and the land below (which I don't think is called Hyrule yet in the beginning) are supposed to combine.
OoT's "main area." while frequently visited, didn't have much to it. For the most part it was only visited because it was at the center of all the places you needed to go to. Not nearly as much exploration there as the villages/dungeons.
@soridosuneku OoT already scaled back the world as opposed to Zelda 2 and A link to the past but it wasn't until Majora's Mask where it was gone. And even if The world in SS is more seasmless, which it isn't as i have already seen. The reason they do it to make dungeons out of the main areas of the game, so it has still the same problem ona bigger scale. How it should have been done is like in ALttP, Zelda 2 or if you want a non Nintendo example: Skyrim! But certainly not like it's done now.
@droppingpenny Wasn't the demo only of Skyloft areas/dungeons? I'm not suprised then that it wasn't seamless since I believe it was the land below Skyloft that's supposed to seamless at the beginning/at some point. Even if the dungeons may become main areas, they are incorporating more meaningful NPC interactions ala Majora's Mask, so there'll be plenty of reason to traverse whatever overworld SS will have. The article was on zeldadungeon but I forgot what it was called.
@soridosuneku It doesn't matter if it is seamless or not, the main point of it being just a big dungeon still stands, it will still be nothing like ALttP in terms of the world. Also since when does Zelda need "meaningfull" NPC interactions? Remember what Zelda was about? Adventure, Exploration and Survival, but whatever you said Nintendo is doing is the opposite of it.
I played the part where you were actually being in the "overworld" and wasn't seamless it looked like a dungeon.
@droppingpenny "..whatever you said Nintendo is doing the exact opposite of it." Are you talking about the meaningful NPC stuff I was saying? If so, Aonuma revealed this in an interview but as I said, I don't know what the article was called.
As for the part where you claim "you were actually being in the overworld," I've seen videos of the demo and you can only choose "Bird Riding." Dungeon" or "Boss Battle." You clearly chose "Dungeon". Plus, I was talking about the land below, not Skyloft.
@soridosuneku As for the Combat: just because enemies follow you, doesn't mean it is now about survival. Survival is about well surviving encounters with enemies, but if enemies have "Fuck-Me-Spots" you need to abuse, they become just another predictable puzzle and not a threat like they should be, and this is what happened in Skyward Sword.
@droppingpenny Hmm... Can't argue with you there based on what we've seen. The older games' enemies might not have been super tough, but they at least attacked you more. I will say that there are enemies that aren't like puzzles, and hopefully the later enemies that are still like puzzles attack more frequently and block with their openings left open much more briefly. If it's like that later on I personally won't mind.
@soridosuneku The enemies in the older games weren't tougher, but there were 10 times more of them and they didn't have weak spots you needed to abuse, you needed to actually use your skills to kill them. If the biggest problem in the newer Zelda is additionally to the Fuck-Me Spots uis also the number of enemies you have to fight, there are almost no more than one or two. Nintendo could have easily implemented the fighting system from Wii Sports Resord Sword Duel, but they didn't
@soridosuneku They went for the out of date Ocarina of Time Fighting System even with motion Plus and use Motion Plus mostly for Puzzles, what does that say about the importance of Zelda to Aonuma or any excecutive in charge of the games? they just don't care.
@droppingpenny I think it's a bit much to say they don't care just because the more recent Zelda games didn't turn out the way you wanted them to. They are still solid games. As for the out of date fighting system... Nintendo makes games for kids and family. I'm not surprised it's not as sophisticated as other games out there. I don't know where you're getting that the motion plus is only used for puzzles when the beetle item alone is used for exploring and seeing what you normally can't get to.
@soridosuneku No they don't care because zelda didn't turn out to sell consoles ever again after ocarina of Time, it sold when it was the way I described it but stopped being a system selelr after Nintendo applied all the "changes". They don't care because they don't care what people want from a zelda game.
Exploration is not the same as using Items to pull levers. With exploration i mean exploring the World. Video games are always about creating coherent world, and Nintendo forgot that.
@droppingpenny Huh, didn't get this in my inbox. I was just going over our discussion since there's been a blowout of new information about SS on zeldadungeon . net.
Didn't Twilight Princess boost Wii sales? I know I don't know much, but I've also never spoken to someone who thinks Nintendo's doing everything wrong. Interesting to see both sides. Well, in terms of the overworld, you were right. Aonuma is treating the overworld like a dungeon. To say they don't care though is a big (next comment
@droppingpenny mistake. There are people who grew up playing Zelda that have been working on SS. Aonuma also stated that he's trying to incorporate elements that were lost in past games, but I'm not sure what those are yet. I think he isn't incorporating the huge overworld that TP had because people complained about it, but I don't think he understood that people complained because there just wasn't much going on in that overworld.
@droppingpenny People still like all these newer games that you seem to dislike. Whether what they did in those games and where the series is going is good for it, there's still Zelda fans out there buying these games like hotcakes, but I guess there would be more fans if it also incorporated the survival and exploration stuff. I'm curious, are you gonna play SS to the end to see what it's like? What was the last Zelda game you played, and do you even like it now?
@soridosuneku Nope TP didn't boost Wii Sales unfortunately The last game I played was Twilight Princess.
There are undoubtely people who grew up and loved Zelda at Nintendo, but they are not in charge of Zelda.
There are fans of new Zelda, but they cannot really carry the series as a system seller, since well Zelda didn't sell anything as soon as it shifted it's direction. Zelda's decline is slow this is why it is not obvious. I will play and finish Skyward Sword but mostly for work.
@droppingpenny Hmm.. interesting. Where can I find your reviews? I hope you make a video about SS even though I can kinda guess and know what you'll think of it.
@soridosuneku Well never say never, I might end up liking it. With the Reviews though there is a problem, they are in German, so unless you understand german you won't be able to enjoy them.
@soridosuneku If you argument about games for kids was true then Why are the previous entries in EVERY Nintendo Franchise mcuh mor sophisticated then their current iterations? Metroid Prime is more sophisticated than Other M. NSMB is more sophisticated than Galaxy 2 and ocarina of Time is more sophisticated than Twilight princess. Now go and ask yourself: Do you really believe what you are writing right now or are you just searching for excuses to defend Nintendo?
@droppingpenny I admit, I could be thinking more clearly. My computer is also not the best, so it's frustrating to keep up. I'll be taking my time now. I should have said the Zelda franchise itself has been typically for family other than TP, but my connection to that and the fighting system specifically was wrong. PS, I understand Nintendo's faults, but I don't have an issue with SS so far. They should incorporate more of the older games' elements, but I'm okay with how SS is so far.
@soridosuneku Well here we probably have our difference, I don't like the direction Skyward Sword is going and for some odd reason, thare are a lot of people who don't want to call out nintendo on it's Bullshit. They always prise Nintendo when they put out bad games and scold them for putting out good ones like NSMB. Isn't this odd, that when the Shareholders start to want change in the structure for a very good reason, they are the bad guys and not Nintendo who fucked up in the first place?
@droppingpenny The poor 3DS sales is a good reason to fire Iwata? According to kWing, he's been rebuilding bridges with 3rd party game developers that some other guy (forgot his name) burnt in the past. I don't know much about Iwata's work and influence over how the company is progressing/regressing, but apparently the DS started off poorly as well. The Wii was the best selling home console for a long time despite it's lackluster library of games. I don't think he needs to be fired.
@soridosuneku The good reason to fire Iwata is for greenlighting the 3DS in the first place. Rebuilding bridges with 3rd Parties is fine and all, but the 3rd Parties don't matter as much as keep you company intact and make games that sell your hardware. He is doing something you do AFTER you established all the necessary points to sell a console. The differenc ebetween the DS and 3ds: Th first 6 Months the DS was marketed as a Portable N64, afterwards they dropped this strategy hence more sales.
@droppingpenny "He is doing something you do AFTER you established all the necessary points to sell a console." If you're referring to the rebuilding bridges thing, I think he's been doing that since Gamecube. He definitely didn't just start with the 3DS. If not, I dunno what you're referring to.
Like kWing said, they should end the production of the DS or should've at least called the 3DS something different/market it better. If it does sell well, though, should he still be fired?
@soridosuneku Why would you end the production of your most successfull console? Do you really think then people will buy the 3DS? It's not confusion, people are not stupid, they are actively avoiding the 3DS, and nothing will ever fix that. It's like saying Toyota should discontinue the Corolla so their other cars sell better. At this point I ask myself how can kwing even think about such a stupid suggestion and how can people agree with him?
@soridosuneku Ad console manucafturer doesn not define the lifecycle of a console, it's the market that does it.
If Nintendo really wanted the 3DS to be successfull, they should have pursuid the same software and hardware strategy as with the DS aka. consumer focused strategy instead of applying the developer focused strategy just so the developers are pleased. To the 3DS successfull would require to remove 3D and make games the market demands not the ones the developers feel like making.
@TheMisterManGuy This shows didn't pay attention to what Nintendo was doing in the last years. the failure of the 3DS and the already a faliure that is the Wii U (unless of course they change their strategy back) as well as the breakdown of Nintendos console Market can be trased back to Nintendos Big Three Miyamoto, Iwata and Yamauchi. they enabled the mess we have now and i wouldn't shed a tear if the left and took their pets (Aonuma and Sakamoto) with them.
@droppingpenny The 3DS wasn't a failure, it just wasn't selling up to Nintendos standards. We don't know how well the Wii U will do yet as it's not released. Again, you have a point with Aounuma, but sakamoto & sakurai leaving would kill nintendo.
@TheMisterManGuy I think not selling enough to cover the costs is a definition of a failure, but you are of course entitled to your own definition. However neither Sakamoto nor Aonuma did anything to sell Nintendo Hardware, i don't think keeping them will do Nintendo any good, Sakurai though could redeem himself if he stops injecting weird elements into his games.
@droppingpenny "Sakurai could redeem himself if he stop injectingenuity weird elements into his games" Uh.. what wierd elements? I don't see anything weird in Brawl.
@TheMisterManGuy Maybe the overaching story mode that nobody wanted and the watered down gameplay weren't enough clues. He could have used the Time and money to improve tha game itself but he didn't he chose lot's of cutscenes and weird gameplay over a coherent game.
@droppingpenny Watered down? the only thing dumbed down in brawl was the speed compared to melee, other than that it played almost identical to the other iterattions. Again, Subspace emisary isn't really forced upon you, there are plenty of other modes to enjoy in Brawl (exept online).
@TheMisterManGuy The Speed is Slower the Balance of teh Characters is more off than in Melee and the physics are worse. Yes of course nobody forces me to play the Story mode at the same time nobody asked for one, so why were a lot resources used to create something, nobody demanded in the first place? because sakurai felt like it. And this sums up Nintendo's problem in a Nutshell.
@droppingpenny Well, I didn't notice anything different with the physics aside from the Random tripping & the characters don't seem off balance to me. Trust me I own all 3 Smash bros. Sakurai was just kicking around some new idea & that shouldn't be a bad thing. We may not expected or wanted subspace emisarry, but we did enjoy it.... or at least I enjoyed it, but still, there were quite a few people who liked it.
@TheMisterManGuy Maybe some enjoyed it, but the point is that Subspace emissary has nothing to do in a SSB game, the effort and money could have been put into the actual game mechanics.
I'm sorry but to say that Nintendo should retire the DS is just plain stupid! It's like saying that Sony should of retire the PS2 as soon as the PS3 came out to boost sales!! The PS3 wasn't doing that great from 2006 to 2008 and eventhought Sony had a rough time cause of this it wasn't so bad thanks to the PS2. On top of that how can that many people get the 2 confuse when 3D is being advertise just like HD was and if Nintendo needs to retire a DS model then it should be the DSI or the DSIXL?
The 3DS is not selling , because people want so see where it is going, and some rumors online for a new version like the 3DS Lite and we all know that will happen so the sales are low. Until a new version of the 3DS comes out no dice for me xp
No no no no no !!!! We want Iwata ! if he can post the inferiour Wii outsell the superiour Ps3 and 360 strategically THEN HE MUST STAY !!!!!!!!!!!! OR ELSE THAT MYTH OF "the fall of Nintendo" WILL BECOME REALITY WITHOUT HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TheMisterManGuy i never said any of them was a flop, what I said that the psp had accomplished more than the 3ds has, as of yet. And notice that I didnt mention the Go, in my eyes that was only an experiment from sony to see the publics reaction, which was horrible. So stop trying be a smartass and shut the f*ck up!!!
@FusionCode just admit that the PSP sucks. I bought one at launch and within a month I put it away until the original downgrade>upgrade mod was detailed. I uses it for emulation for awhile, but in Nov. 09 I got a Droid, and it emulates just as good as PSP AND I can use a wiimote with it!
@alexwilsonNC In comparison to the DS it does not. Even though the DS had more sales than the PSP, it will always seem like it won to me. MOST DS owners are little kids. That means they probably wouldn't know how to use a PSP to its full extent. Parents thought this too. It's just too complicated for little kids. That's why sales differed greatly.
@dragonbreathstinks: Despite being marketed to kids, in the end it wound up as one of the best handhelds to date. It has the games and support to prove so.
I'm not gonna say the PSP flat out sucks(I thought it was quite a powerhouse in terms of multimedia) but I just got more fun out of a DS. In the end, thats the most important factor.
@dragonbreathstinks: I have Kingdom Hearts 358/2, a few Sonic games, New Super Mario Bros, Bowsers Inside Story, WWE SvR 2010, and both Legend of Zelda games. And my bro has Pokemon and Kirby on it. I spend more time on my Wii, but lately I've been attempting to build up my DS collection. I plan on getting Okamiden, KH Coded, and maybe a few other games.
@sonicnator Can't go wrong with the KH games. And I heard that the Sims 3 is good. But the 3DS version sucks. I heard they took a lot out from the original DS game.
@sonicnator There's not really a story to it. I guess you make your own. Just build a family, make friends, create havoc. You know, what ever you want.
I seriously doubt that Mr. Iwata will be fired. To be honest at the expense of sounding like an alarmist, it almost sounds like a publicity stunt for a bit of attention; though I couldn't get who would perpetrate it.
In any event, I doubt he will be fired and I certainly pray that he isn't. Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention.
thank you for seeing the fact that 3ds is doing well. ps vita has much more to worry about. iwata is going nowhere. so yeah deal with it. All this hate comes with the territory, when you at the top alot of people want to see you fall. It happens
When I look in commercials here in Denmark, I can often find the DS, but never the 3DS. It's annoying, because I want to know the current Danish on the 3DS.
I think that people here in Denmark just think that 3DS is an upgraded version of the DS, like the DS XL or the DS Light, not a new game system!
I agree with Kwing! Do more commercial on the 3DS instead of the DS!
DO NOT FIRE IWATA YOU NO GOOD SHARE HOLDERS! HE'S PART OF THE REASON WHY NINTENDO IS THE BEST! PEOPLE HAVEN'T BOUGHT THE 3DS BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE MONEY NOT BECAUSE THEY DON'T THINK IT'S AWSOME. I MYSELF HAVE A RED (RED!) 3DS. IF YOU FIRE IWATA YOU HAVE FOREVER LOST A VALUABLE CUSTOMER NINTENDO! oh, and sorry for the caps.
Can you people stop being so stuck up fanboys, @fusioncode is partially right the psp is a 7 year old console and that in it self is more than the 3ds has accomplished though not more then the ds. Secondly the hacker attack was a problem caused by exterior circumstances, and nintendos fail is an interior that can only ve blamed on them, ecen if they didnt mean any harm.
so let me get this str8; the nintendo president is on the edge of getting fired for the 3ds not selling 8 million but, the president of sony is not because i dont know THEY SERVER GOT HACKED BY SOME LOW LIFES WITH NOTHING ELSE TO DO IN LIFE! makes a lot of since right?!
@dajam9035 Yeah, because hackers are insects compared to CEOs and presidents. I think your caps makes your statement ignorant despite the fact I agree with your intentions with that post. BTW most hackers who screw a company end up being hired by said company to prevent others from exploiting their weaknesses. Its kind of been accepted as the best resume/application in videogames, government, etc.... get with the times.
@NEdelbach i already know that im not stupid you know; that is still not going to make me change mind about seeing hackers as no life wimps that hack people for the fun of it or do it as some kind of a game, hackers make me sick! (note the caps was over doing it but you get what im talking about)

SuperSupergamer100 6 months ago

DistantJ 6 months ago
@DistantJ
Games ARE deeper and have more content on the 3DS.
Example: Devil Survivor is over 60+ hours long.
How long does your average iPhone game last? 2 hours?
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@jasamdomo Why would I want to spend 60 hours on a portable game? That'd be a LONG train journey.
DistantJ 6 months ago
@DistantJ
Is that really your argument?
You could save your game and come back to it another day.
What a new concept.
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@jasamdomo Not an argument dude, just saying, like 60 hours of game I'd probably do on my Wii or my PS3, I wouldn't buy a portable console to spend 60 hours on, and I wouldn't pay £30 for the shorter, handheld-oriented games which are more suited to a handheld, and apparently neither would others. Stuff like Dead Space on iPhone is just as good as it would be on 3DS but it's less than a 10th of the price, that's what stops me from getting a 3DS.
DistantJ 6 months ago
@DistantJ
Some like deeper handheld gaming, others don't.
Fair enough.

And as long as Yamauchi is not coming back it can only get better afterwards.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Thats the most fanboy like reply I ever read, you wish the PSP outsold the 3DS, GTFO

mariojuggernaut22 6 months ago
@mariojuggernaut22 I doubt it will actually sell constantly at the current rate, which is still below the DS. Price cuts never worked for a long period of time and never will, this is why the developers are jumping the sinking ship.

droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny
FYI the 3DS has been outselling everything, from consoles to handhelds, since the price drop worldwide on a weekly basis. It's been dropping, but the drop hasn't been drastic.
Also, Miyamoto leaving Nintendo. That's a good joke.
You realize he's on the board of directors, right?
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@jasamdomo Yes I know the right now the 3DS is selling better, but the sales started to drop again, what essentially means that the price is only a small part of the problem.
Miyamoto should be fired for what he is doing to Nintendo right now aka. refusing to make gameshe should, and instead doing whatever he wants.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Dude, Miyamoto makes some games you don't like so what. That doesn't mean he should be fired. He's a game designer, he can make whatever the hell he wants.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy He makes games that don't sell, this is the reason he should be fired, not because he makes something I don't like.
droppingpenny 6 months ago

TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@droppingpenny
Yeah, Miyamoto should be fired for what he is doing to Nintendo.
Like making triple AAA games and casual games that make Nintendo a fortune.
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Yamuchi was a fucking dick. Ever since the N64, he started being an asshole. Which in turn, was causing the company to go downhill. Then Iwata came to the rescue & saved nintendo. Also, the day Miyamoto, Sakamoto, & Sakurai go would be the death of the Nintendo we know & love.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Yamauchi is one of the people I don't want to return, as said in the post above, his obsession with 3D caused Nintendo to go downhill, but he at least left the Handheld line alone and this could prosper and secure Nintendos stability to some extent. iwata on the Other Hand was behind the Disruption Strategy and the Wii but abandoned it very quickly to continue Yamauchis direction and extrapolating it on to the Handhelds.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy If Miyamoto, Sakamoto, Aonuma and Sakurai leave it will get better, only of course if the People who will be in charge instead go in the opposite direction with the consoles. As i personally see it Miyamoto, Aonuma and Sakamoto are doing a pretty good job at killing Nintendo, so if they leave nobody will notice.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny How exactly are they killing nintendo? they're just game designers. If Miyamoto leaves, no more mario. If Sakamoto leaves, no more metroid & warioware. If Sakurai leaves, no more Smash Bros. Is that what you want your Nintendo to be like?
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy If they leave they will be replaced by someone else so the games will still come, and honestly I'd rather have no more Metroid then Metroid Other M. And I prefer less Overly long storylines in my SSB.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Other M was a great game & don't say "ZOMG THEY MADE SAMUS EMOTIONAL" Samus has always been like that. Didn't you read the metroid manga? The script for other M was handled by Sakamoto. You don't have to play though subspace emisary if you don't want to, there are plenty of other modes you can do in Brawl.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Sorry, i overlooked the Other M part: Other M is a franchise killer for several reasons:
It abandoned the Metroid Gameplay Mechanics and Leveldesign in favor of Story and Cutscenes, It kills Samus's character, because even people who are defending other M know deep down, that Samus is actrually you, the player and nobody else. Giving her Emotions and Dialogue detaches the player form the game and character. And again, nobody asked for this and nobody cared since it bombed.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@droppingpenny Well, Nintendo wanted to flesh out samus more. I don't think she was ever intended to be silent or represent the player. The classic metroid gameplay is still here, but just been watered down a little to make room for the story. Just because there was 1 game you didn't like doesn't mean it automatically kills the franchise.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy A Franchise Killer is a game that makes people lose interest in the Franchise, this is what Other M did. Nintendo wanted one thing, but people who actualkly buy these games wanted something else there is the crucial point. The Classic Metroid Gameplay is nowhere to be found in Other M, maybe you mean the controlls but even these are not as well though out, they metroid Gameplay mechanics were stripped away completely. No Exploration, no Powerups, no World.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Even though other m was more guided than previous entries, it still has basic metroid mechanics. Power ups are still existent & your free to roam around the environment. You may not have liked other m, but it still has the feeling of a metroid game, at least IMO.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Noper there are no power ups. A power up should increase your strength and is optional, when it's scripted it's not a power up.
Free Roam? This is a joke right? Other M is a series of straight corridors there is no world to roam free. and most of the door are closed anyway until a scripted event happens. It didn't feel like Metroid it just looked like it, but it felt like Metal Gear Solid. If it was a real Metroid Game people would buy it like they did with prime.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Other m's free roam is like 2D metroid's, you can go & find missile & health expansions (which are the power ups I'm talking about) which can add replay value & exploration. Super Mario 3D Land plays like SMB3 in a 3D environment.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy This just shows you didn't really play the Orifginal NES of Super Metroid since in a 3D Metroid you actually have a complete WORLD MAP where you can get lost because of the sheer size of it.
I Played Super Mario 3D Land, and this statement couldn't be further from the truth because SMB 3 had a fast paced arcade gameplay while super mario 3D Land has a slow and tedious puzzle based gameplay.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny I DID play super metroid, & I felt other m had similar style. I'm not saying it's the exact same thing, but it has the feeling of a metroid game to me. How were you able to play Super Mario 3D Land? were you at E3? Comic-con? gamescom?
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Well if you played Super Metroid, then the glaring flaws of the Other M Gameplay Mechanics should be very obvious to you, other than superficially Other M has nothing to do with Super Metroid.
I Played Super Mario 3D Land and other Nintendo Games at the gamescom 2011
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Well the things I noticed were
Not as big map
Story
a little more guided
Weapon Authorization
Like I said, it's not the same thing as Super metroid, but the setup & area progression had the metroid vibe to it. You may not have liked 3D land, but the hands on impressions I read said it felt like a mix between NSMB, SMB3, & Galaxy.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy The things I noticed in Other M: No World just a very small map, Linear progression, scripted events, (opposite of Metroid), Unskippable cutscenes, badly written story, bad voice acting.
The staples of the Metrodi Series: Big coherent world, player driven progression and earning the power ups is gone.
3dLand: It doesn't play like NSMB or SMB3, hands on reports say this only because people who do these never played these games and think the tanooki suit equals SMB3.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Well Personally think the voice acting was decent. As for the story, I only played the demo but from what I heard, it's good as well. I've seen gameplay of 3D Land & it looks like a Mario platformer to me.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Well as i wrote before it looks like one but doesn't play like one, and that is the big problem, that always plagued the 3D Mario games.
droppingpenny 6 months ago

@droppingpenny Well, 3D mario games to me always played like 3D platformers. If it didn't feel like it to you thats fine, but it fells like it to other people.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy About the Metroid Manga: No I didn't read the Manga, and so didn't the fans of the games. because there was a reason the Manga was never translated into any other language: It is not relevant to the games and nobody cared for it in Japan. People cared as little for it as the three Sakamoto games Fusion, Zero Mission and Other M. The True Successor to Super Metroid was Metroid Prime, and people knew it, hence the sucess. the only thing Sakamoto could do is retcon the continuity.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@droppingpenny Well samus was always intended to be like she was in Other M.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Nope, that is not true, and you know it as soon as you play any other game that was not made by Sakamoto.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy He wrote off the Prime Games as a Spinnoff, even though the first was clearly a continuation of the NES original, just to make his games more relevant on paper. So as far as I'm concerned this guy did as much damage to Nintendo as Miyamoto who effectively decreased the interest in Mario with each game.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@droppingpenny How did miyamoto decreased interest? He makes a mario game for every nintendo system. Again, I really don't see how they're "destorying" Nintendo they doing just fine.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy The release of Super Mario 64 decreased the Mario Customers from 27mln to 12 Mln. Super mario Sunshine sold around 6 Mln, Super Mario Galaxy around 5mln... If that is not decreasing interest, then I don't know what. In Comparison NSMB Wii sold 25 Mln. on both systems and it was not done by miyamoto.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny I thought you said Miyamoto was losing interest. 5 million copies isn't really that bad, in fact thats actually pretty good. I't may not have been a system seller, but it didn't bomb like Disaster: Day of Crisis.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy You just said it yourself: "Maybe it wasn't a System Seller" Well this is your prove Miyamoto is ruining Mario. because MARIO WAS ALWAYS A SYSTEM SELLER until it went to 3D. Also you didn't oay attention to the constantly decreasing sales with each installment. This is not how it works when you franchise is successfull. NSMB on the other Hand was done by someone else and sold 25 and 23 Mln. Now tell who actually got it right: Miyamoto or the NSMB developers?
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Well Disaster day of Crisis, was certainly not a hit, but Monolith learned from their mistakes and made Xenoblade. Miyamoto didn't learn and made Super Mario 3D Land.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Why is Super Mario 3D land bad to you? It looks great. It's not Miyamoto's fault that the 3D games don't sell as much (they're criticly acclaimed), I would blame that on the fact that most people don't like change.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Super Mario 3D Land superficially looks like Mario but plays like something else, that is enough reason to decrease interest in the franchise. I would blame it on Miyamoto, because beleive it or not, I think a developer should actually make games that people want instead of having change for changes sake. But that's just silly me.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy How they are ruining Nintendo: Well miyamoto was the guy behind The N64 and the 3DS, and both console mark the breakdown of Nintendos markets. N64 is when the console Market started to collapse and 3DS is when the Handheld market started to collapse, he is also refusing to make games that sell aka. 2D Mario. he didn't make a single one since Super Mario World. NSMB and NSMB Wii were made entirely different people, so what purpose does he serve exactly? No purpose at all.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny The console Market is still going strong & the 3DS has been out selling every system on the market.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Aounuma ruining Nintendo? If anything, it sounds like the suggestions your making would kill Nintendo.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Aonuma has already killed the interest into the Zelda franchise, if he goes it will only get better. Because then somebody who actually cares about the franchise will be put in charge. In case you didn't know: Aonuma hates the first 4 Zelda games.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny O.k., you may have a point there.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@droppingpenny
I don't know where you heard that false rumor, but Aonuma does not hate the first four zelda games.
His first game ever was Marvelous, which was heavily inspired by Link to the Past, the 3rd zelda game.
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@jasamdomo None of his games were inspired by a Link to the Past. And no it's not a rumour, he stated in several interviews, that he doesn't like oldschool Zelda and prefers Grafical Adventures and Puzzle Games. This is why none of his Games actually feel like Zelda games.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny
Actually, yes, Zelda inspired at least one of his games:
''Marvelous was influenced by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past [1]. The player controls three boys across the land by the bird's-eye view. A command window will pop up whenever the player encounter an object or person. The window will give the player choices on what to do with the person or thing, like picking up objects, talking, or reading.''
jasamdomo 6 months ago
@jasamdomo Yes maybe it was influenced Superficially by a Link to the Past but I have yet to see a single game from Aonuma where doesn't screw the Zelda Gameplay Mechanics and Level design sideways just to shoehorn his puzzle and dungeon based design into them. The Top Down Perspective aside the description of Marvelous sounds more like Maniac Mansion than anything else and certainly not like ALttP.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Hmm.. Been reading your guys' discussion since I like Zelda, but I don't know which games you're talking about where Aonuma screwed the games up. When did he start, and how did they differ from the older games so much they were subpar in your eyes?
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku I was talking the Aonuma Quadrilogy: Majoras Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.
How They differ from the older games? The Older Games were about exploration, combat survival and discovery, aonumas games are about solving puzzles. He increases the Puzzle aspect with every single game.
He Started in Majoras Mask by removing the coherend World of Ocarina of Time and replacing it with essentially one small town and now even enemys are puzzles in SW.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Oh.. I haven't played those games yet. Glad you had the patience to tell me this instead off scoffing when I said I liked Zelda and didn't know what games you were talking about. I'm actually pretty new to Zelda (first games were OoT and A Link to the Past).
In terms of exploration, they said they're trying to make the old overworld-dungeon-overworld design more seamless and feel more connected to each other in SS. This might solve your issue of a lack of exploration.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@droppingpenny As for combat survival, I'm not sure how that has differed. Enemies basically follow you and sort of attack you 'till you take 'em out or enter a cave and are free for a while. I guess I can't really say since the only new games I've played are the two DS games. I do think though that it's a little too soon to talk about SS.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku The problems starts in the design: OoT had introduced the "Dungeon-Overworld-Dungeon" design but the Overworld was clearly the main are aof the game and dungeons were what they were supposed to be, a break up from the norm. Aonumas deisgn involves dungeons as the main areas and no World. I played skyward sword at gamescom 2011 and the World was virtually nonexistent and replaced with more dungeons.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny That was the Skyloft part though. The land below Skyloft is supposed to be more open and seamless like I said before. At some point, Skyloft and the land below (which I don't think is called Hyrule yet in the beginning) are supposed to combine.
OoT's "main area." while frequently visited, didn't have much to it. For the most part it was only visited because it was at the center of all the places you needed to go to. Not nearly as much exploration there as the villages/dungeons.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku OoT already scaled back the world as opposed to Zelda 2 and A link to the past but it wasn't until Majora's Mask where it was gone. And even if The world in SS is more seasmless, which it isn't as i have already seen. The reason they do it to make dungeons out of the main areas of the game, so it has still the same problem ona bigger scale. How it should have been done is like in ALttP, Zelda 2 or if you want a non Nintendo example: Skyrim! But certainly not like it's done now.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Wasn't the demo only of Skyloft areas/dungeons? I'm not suprised then that it wasn't seamless since I believe it was the land below Skyloft that's supposed to seamless at the beginning/at some point. Even if the dungeons may become main areas, they are incorporating more meaningful NPC interactions ala Majora's Mask, so there'll be plenty of reason to traverse whatever overworld SS will have. The article was on zeldadungeon but I forgot what it was called.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku It doesn't matter if it is seamless or not, the main point of it being just a big dungeon still stands, it will still be nothing like ALttP in terms of the world. Also since when does Zelda need "meaningfull" NPC interactions? Remember what Zelda was about? Adventure, Exploration and Survival, but whatever you said Nintendo is doing is the opposite of it.
I played the part where you were actually being in the "overworld" and wasn't seamless it looked like a dungeon.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny "..whatever you said Nintendo is doing the exact opposite of it." Are you talking about the meaningful NPC stuff I was saying? If so, Aonuma revealed this in an interview but as I said, I don't know what the article was called.
As for the part where you claim "you were actually being in the overworld," I've seen videos of the demo and you can only choose "Bird Riding." Dungeon" or "Boss Battle." You clearly chose "Dungeon". Plus, I was talking about the land below, not Skyloft.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku As for the Combat: just because enemies follow you, doesn't mean it is now about survival. Survival is about well surviving encounters with enemies, but if enemies have "Fuck-Me-Spots" you need to abuse, they become just another predictable puzzle and not a threat like they should be, and this is what happened in Skyward Sword.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Hmm... Can't argue with you there based on what we've seen. The older games' enemies might not have been super tough, but they at least attacked you more. I will say that there are enemies that aren't like puzzles, and hopefully the later enemies that are still like puzzles attack more frequently and block with their openings left open much more briefly. If it's like that later on I personally won't mind.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku The enemies in the older games weren't tougher, but there were 10 times more of them and they didn't have weak spots you needed to abuse, you needed to actually use your skills to kill them. If the biggest problem in the newer Zelda is additionally to the Fuck-Me Spots uis also the number of enemies you have to fight, there are almost no more than one or two. Nintendo could have easily implemented the fighting system from Wii Sports Resord Sword Duel, but they didn't
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@soridosuneku They went for the out of date Ocarina of Time Fighting System even with motion Plus and use Motion Plus mostly for Puzzles, what does that say about the importance of Zelda to Aonuma or any excecutive in charge of the games? they just don't care.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny I think it's a bit much to say they don't care just because the more recent Zelda games didn't turn out the way you wanted them to. They are still solid games. As for the out of date fighting system... Nintendo makes games for kids and family. I'm not surprised it's not as sophisticated as other games out there. I don't know where you're getting that the motion plus is only used for puzzles when the beetle item alone is used for exploring and seeing what you normally can't get to.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku No they don't care because zelda didn't turn out to sell consoles ever again after ocarina of Time, it sold when it was the way I described it but stopped being a system selelr after Nintendo applied all the "changes". They don't care because they don't care what people want from a zelda game.
Exploration is not the same as using Items to pull levers. With exploration i mean exploring the World. Video games are always about creating coherent world, and Nintendo forgot that.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Huh, didn't get this in my inbox. I was just going over our discussion since there's been a blowout of new information about SS on zeldadungeon . net.
Didn't Twilight Princess boost Wii sales? I know I don't know much, but I've also never spoken to someone who thinks Nintendo's doing everything wrong. Interesting to see both sides. Well, in terms of the overworld, you were right. Aonuma is treating the overworld like a dungeon. To say they don't care though is a big (next comment
soridosuneku 5 months ago

What was the last Zelda game you played, and do you even like it now?
soridosuneku 5 months ago
@soridosuneku Nope TP didn't boost Wii Sales unfortunately The last game I played was Twilight Princess.
There are undoubtely people who grew up and loved Zelda at Nintendo, but they are not in charge of Zelda.
There are fans of new Zelda, but they cannot really carry the series as a system seller, since well Zelda didn't sell anything as soon as it shifted it's direction. Zelda's decline is slow this is why it is not obvious. I will play and finish Skyward Sword but mostly for work.
droppingpenny 5 months ago
@droppingpenny Hmm.. interesting. Where can I find your reviews? I hope you make a video about SS even though I can kinda guess and know what you'll think of it.
soridosuneku 5 months ago
@soridosuneku Well never say never, I might end up liking it. With the Reviews though there is a problem, they are in German, so unless you understand german you won't be able to enjoy them.
droppingpenny 5 months ago
@droppingpenny Aww, that sucks. No youtube stuff eh?
soridosuneku 5 months ago
@soridosuneku Well they are on youtube, they are on another channel I have it listed in my profile page.
droppingpenny 5 months ago
@soridosuneku If you argument about games for kids was true then Why are the previous entries in EVERY Nintendo Franchise mcuh mor sophisticated then their current iterations? Metroid Prime is more sophisticated than Other M. NSMB is more sophisticated than Galaxy 2 and ocarina of Time is more sophisticated than Twilight princess. Now go and ask yourself: Do you really believe what you are writing right now or are you just searching for excuses to defend Nintendo?
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny I admit, I could be thinking more clearly. My computer is also not the best, so it's frustrating to keep up. I'll be taking my time now. I should have said the Zelda franchise itself has been typically for family other than TP, but my connection to that and the fighting system specifically was wrong. PS, I understand Nintendo's faults, but I don't have an issue with SS so far. They should incorporate more of the older games' elements, but I'm okay with how SS is so far.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku Well here we probably have our difference, I don't like the direction Skyward Sword is going and for some odd reason, thare are a lot of people who don't want to call out nintendo on it's Bullshit. They always prise Nintendo when they put out bad games and scold them for putting out good ones like NSMB. Isn't this odd, that when the Shareholders start to want change in the structure for a very good reason, they are the bad guys and not Nintendo who fucked up in the first place?
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny The poor 3DS sales is a good reason to fire Iwata? According to kWing, he's been rebuilding bridges with 3rd party game developers that some other guy (forgot his name) burnt in the past. I don't know much about Iwata's work and influence over how the company is progressing/regressing, but apparently the DS started off poorly as well. The Wii was the best selling home console for a long time despite it's lackluster library of games. I don't think he needs to be fired.
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku The good reason to fire Iwata is for greenlighting the 3DS in the first place. Rebuilding bridges with 3rd Parties is fine and all, but the 3rd Parties don't matter as much as keep you company intact and make games that sell your hardware. He is doing something you do AFTER you established all the necessary points to sell a console. The differenc ebetween the DS and 3ds: Th first 6 Months the DS was marketed as a Portable N64, afterwards they dropped this strategy hence more sales.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny "He is doing something you do AFTER you established all the necessary points to sell a console." If you're referring to the rebuilding bridges thing, I think he's been doing that since Gamecube. He definitely didn't just start with the 3DS. If not, I dunno what you're referring to.
Like kWing said, they should end the production of the DS or should've at least called the 3DS something different/market it better. If it does sell well, though, should he still be fired?
soridosuneku 6 months ago
@soridosuneku Why would you end the production of your most successfull console? Do you really think then people will buy the 3DS? It's not confusion, people are not stupid, they are actively avoiding the 3DS, and nothing will ever fix that. It's like saying Toyota should discontinue the Corolla so their other cars sell better. At this point I ask myself how can kwing even think about such a stupid suggestion and how can people agree with him?
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@soridosuneku Ad console manucafturer doesn not define the lifecycle of a console, it's the market that does it.
If Nintendo really wanted the 3DS to be successfull, they should have pursuid the same software and hardware strategy as with the DS aka. consumer focused strategy instead of applying the developer focused strategy just so the developers are pleased. To the 3DS successfull would require to remove 3D and make games the market demands not the ones the developers feel like making.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy This shows didn't pay attention to what Nintendo was doing in the last years. the failure of the 3DS and the already a faliure that is the Wii U (unless of course they change their strategy back) as well as the breakdown of Nintendos console Market can be trased back to Nintendos Big Three Miyamoto, Iwata and Yamauchi. they enabled the mess we have now and i wouldn't shed a tear if the left and took their pets (Aonuma and Sakamoto) with them.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny The 3DS wasn't a failure, it just wasn't selling up to Nintendos standards. We don't know how well the Wii U will do yet as it's not released. Again, you have a point with Aounuma, but sakamoto & sakurai leaving would kill nintendo.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy I think not selling enough to cover the costs is a definition of a failure, but you are of course entitled to your own definition. However neither Sakamoto nor Aonuma did anything to sell Nintendo Hardware, i don't think keeping them will do Nintendo any good, Sakurai though could redeem himself if he stops injecting weird elements into his games.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny "Sakurai could redeem himself if he stop injectingenuity weird elements into his games" Uh.. what wierd elements? I don't see anything weird in Brawl.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Maybe the overaching story mode that nobody wanted and the watered down gameplay weren't enough clues. He could have used the Time and money to improve tha game itself but he didn't he chose lot's of cutscenes and weird gameplay over a coherent game.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Watered down? the only thing dumbed down in brawl was the speed compared to melee, other than that it played almost identical to the other iterattions. Again, Subspace emisary isn't really forced upon you, there are plenty of other modes to enjoy in Brawl (exept online).
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy The Speed is Slower the Balance of teh Characters is more off than in Melee and the physics are worse. Yes of course nobody forces me to play the Story mode at the same time nobody asked for one, so why were a lot resources used to create something, nobody demanded in the first place? because sakurai felt like it. And this sums up Nintendo's problem in a Nutshell.
droppingpenny 6 months ago
@droppingpenny Well, I didn't notice anything different with the physics aside from the Random tripping & the characters don't seem off balance to me. Trust me I own all 3 Smash bros. Sakurai was just kicking around some new idea & that shouldn't be a bad thing. We may not expected or wanted subspace emisarry, but we did enjoy it.... or at least I enjoyed it, but still, there were quite a few people who liked it.
TheMisterManGuy 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy Maybe some enjoyed it, but the point is that Subspace emissary has nothing to do in a SSB game, the effort and money could have been put into the actual game mechanics.

I'm sorry but to say that Nintendo should retire the DS is just plain stupid! It's like saying that Sony should of retire the PS2 as soon as the PS3 came out to boost sales!! The PS3 wasn't doing that great from 2006 to 2008 and eventhought Sony had a rough time cause of this it wasn't so bad thanks to the PS2. On top of that how can that many people get the 2 confuse when 3D is being advertise just like HD was and if Nintendo needs to retire a DS model then it should be the DSI or the DSIXL?
ultimatepower 6 months ago
The 3DS is not selling , because people want so see where it is going, and some rumors online for a new version like the 3DS Lite and we all know that will happen so the sales are low. Until a new version of the 3DS comes out no dice for me xp

shadowing00 6 months ago
No no no no no !!!! We want Iwata ! if he can post the inferiour Wii outsell the superiour Ps3 and 360 strategically THEN HE MUST STAY !!!!!!!!!!!! OR ELSE THAT MYTH OF "the fall of Nintendo" WILL BECOME REALITY WITHOUT HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!
OmegaRocketGrunt 6 months ago
@TheMisterManGuy i never said any of them was a flop, what I said that the psp had accomplished more than the 3ds has, as of yet. And notice that I didnt mention the Go, in my eyes that was only an experiment from sony to see the publics reaction, which was horrible. So stop trying be a smartass and shut the f*ck up!!!
deskopfr 6 months ago
@deskopfr The 3DS is outselling every system on the market.

Foodoff527 6 months ago
@FusionCode just admit that the PSP sucks. I bought one at launch and within a month I put it away until the original downgrade>upgrade mod was detailed. I uses it for emulation for awhile, but in Nov. 09 I got a Droid, and it emulates just as good as PSP AND I can use a wiimote with it!
alexwilsonNC 6 months ago
@alexwilsonNC In comparison to the DS it does not. Even though the DS had more sales than the PSP, it will always seem like it won to me. MOST DS owners are little kids. That means they probably wouldn't know how to use a PSP to its full extent. Parents thought this too. It's just too complicated for little kids. That's why sales differed greatly.
dragonbreathstinks 6 months ago
@dragonbreathstinks: Despite being marketed to kids, in the end it wound up as one of the best handhelds to date. It has the games and support to prove so.
I'm not gonna say the PSP flat out sucks(I thought it was quite a powerhouse in terms of multimedia) but I just got more fun out of a DS. In the end, thats the most important factor.
sonicnator 6 months ago
@sonicnator What games did you have for your DS?
dragonbreathstinks 6 months ago
@dragonbreathstinks: I have Kingdom Hearts 358/2, a few Sonic games, New Super Mario Bros, Bowsers Inside Story, WWE SvR 2010, and both Legend of Zelda games. And my bro has Pokemon and Kirby on it. I spend more time on my Wii, but lately I've been attempting to build up my DS collection. I plan on getting Okamiden, KH Coded, and maybe a few other games.
sonicnator 6 months ago
@sonicnator Can't go wrong with the KH games. And I heard that the Sims 3 is good. But the 3DS version sucks. I heard they took a lot out from the original DS game.
dragonbreathstinks 6 months ago
@dragonbreathstinks: Of Sims? I never really cared for the Sims series. Whats it about?
sonicnator 6 months ago
@sonicnator There's not really a story to it. I guess you make your own. Just build a family, make friends, create havoc. You know, what ever you want.

@dragonbreathstinks: Ahh ok then.

Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention.
vanimusgames 6 months ago
thank you for seeing the fact that 3ds is doing well. ps vita has much more to worry about. iwata is going nowhere. so yeah deal with it. All this hate comes with the territory, when you at the top alot of people want to see you fall. It happens
safesafechillbro 6 months ago
When I look in commercials here in Denmark, I can often find the DS, but never the 3DS. It's annoying, because I want to know the current Danish on the 3DS.
I think that people here in Denmark just think that 3DS is an upgraded version of the DS, like the DS XL or the DS Light, not a new game system!
I agree with Kwing! Do more commercial on the 3DS instead of the DS!
BackflippingTurtle 6 months ago
Also the launch titles were bad but come Christmas, Nintendo will be singin' a different tune!
ViewtifulBeau 6 months ago
ViewtifulBeau 6 months ago
Can you people stop being so stuck up fanboys, @fusioncode is partially right the psp is a 7 year old console and that in it self is more than the 3ds has accomplished though not more then the ds. Secondly the hacker attack was a problem caused by exterior circumstances, and nintendos fail is an interior that can only ve blamed on them, ecen if they didnt mean any harm.

so let me get this str8; the nintendo president is on the edge of getting fired for the 3ds not selling 8 million but, the president of sony is not because i dont know THEY SERVER GOT HACKED BY SOME LOW LIFES WITH NOTHING ELSE TO DO IN LIFE! makes a lot of since right?!
dajam9035 6 months ago
