I have them in my yards pond (Florida) and have put some in a 30 gallon planted tank I have inside (no fish) but they do not seem to live long . Might be because they are filter feeders as you stated which I did not know. Have you ever kept them in a tank?
I do have scuds and plant clinging daphnia which do well. I feed grinded up algae wafer once a week.
