  • He's the Björk or the saxophone!

  • Anyone know the name of the Gabarek piece where he plays sax over church chantings ?

  • Brings me to my roots in Europe...I'll never forget that land.

  • @nuclear944 Please please ..... Europe is not 'a land' but several countries each with its own distinctions, and fine cultural roots <3

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Jan live with the Hilliard Ensemble...There is no other sax player like him! Totally unique in his sound/approach. My favorite musician period...and I'm a drummer/percussionist! He has single handedly helped shape the the eurojazz aesthetic...with a bit of assistance from Manfred Eicher!!! :o)

  • u should try and see some performances of Barry Cocroft, he's one of the best sax players in the world, the composer of many such 21st century jazz sax solos as Black and Blue, Ku Ku, Rock me etc....

I've done a workshop with him

    AMAZING

  • Will do!

  • Polish composers are great

  • He is actually from Norway

  • The Giand Of European Jazz Sound!

    My favorit sax!

  • Love his music. He looks like a weird hybrid of Mr Spock and Neil Young

  • you forgot jack nicholson :)

  • Amazing stuff. I love all the musicians here. Jan Garbarek has one of the most wonderful, instantly recognisable sax sounds ever. Miroslav Vitous is just stunning. The drummer's pretty good too. :-)

  • @TomBandfield the drummer is peter erskine ( wheater report ) during his ecm period , but he is not the right drummer for this music .

  • music from the heart which is thoughtful and poignant - not sourced from the emptiness of ego .. beautiful ..

  • Uno de los mejores combos que haya existido nunca.

  • what are those extraneous sounds, triggered by sax?

  • It's about time there was some Jan Garbarek on youtube haha, nice one. Great video.

  • It is wonderful to hear Miroslav Vitious perform. From is early days with Miles Davis and Weather Report to his solo career, he has always maintain a level of excellence that is a joy to listen to.

  • Thanks for posting this. I love the way garbarek sounds. He has an approach and sound that is unique and immediately recognizable.

  • I agree that the drummer and bassist are great, but enjoyed the sax just as much. Together they produce a great mood for the song to swim in.

  • Peter Erskine On The Drums !!!! He is the best drummer ever, also performing with Diana Krall Live At The Montréal Jazz Festival, also on the Jazz Festivals This summer!

  • Maybe "in terms of jazz music" there is nothing, but in terms of Music, his playing is above the classic jazz which is limited itself.

  • Amazing bass solo. even better than Garbarek himself. In terms of jazz music there is nothing special about his Saxophone playing

  • You can't be serious. His style (love it or hate it) is rather unique.

  • NEIN!
