  • Retard!!!

  • Mine prefers an battery operated toothbrush. Could be worth trying.

  • Andrew's dad passed away unexpectedly this week. He will always be remembered as a caring father who loved Andrew and his family.

  • @chucknorris264

i am so sorry to hear this, my thoughts are with you and your family.

  • God bless you and your family sir. I am not going to say I don't know how you do this without becoming frustrated as I am sure you do from time to time. I will say that you could even give other good men "man training". I raised my 3 that didn't have developmental problems without the help of a mother and it was very hard. I could not imaging if one of them also had developmental problems. This is from a 50 year old man that ran into some problems in life, You are my hero!!! God bless you.

  • though i meant

  • He has you as his father so he is going to be A. O.K!!! You look very tired, thought.

  • @briarwoodboy1 Luck, lucky boy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • His son is a special gift. Continue to be the caring parent forever.

  • when a father that has a autism child ,, they know how to treat them ,, Best fathers in the world

  • I am autistic myself, and I sometimes need to be reminded to brush my teeth.

  • You seem like such a good dad!

  • Thanks for posting this! I thought we were the only ones who struggle with this every-single day! My 9 yr old son has Asperger's and he HATES to brush his teeth or get his hair done. He would never let me slash water on his faces. He hates that too! Keep taping and posting to help educate people. I have a few videos posted about my son too. :)

  • ur a brillient dad :)

  • You are such an amazing father. He is so lucky to have you. :)

  • @iris51592 Andrew is just a total funny fun kid' Always up to something. JUST TAKE EVERYTHING in stride.

  • @briarwoodboy1 Take him to a nutritionist, check him for allergies etc, he deserves treatment.

  • Is he low functioning autistic?

  • @SorafiLynn Thats what the county has him rated as.Very little verbal, still play's in dirt all the time ,watch s thomas train stuff,no friends or any social interaction .But this kid is as happy as any kid on the planet. Thanks for asking.....dad

  • @briarwoodboy1 He does seem happy! And cooperative when he wants to be. I'm on the higher end of the spectrum (I have Asperger's Syndrome) and it amazes me to see this! You do a great job!

  • has he ever bitten your finger or hand...

  • Sir...You're an awesome father. My hats off to you. My son Joshua has autism. and this is our daily routine.

  • @NRWY1972 Watched your vid-Having a autistic child/adult is a lifestyle. Thats the only way to have any sucess. It's a game changer and you have to play if you want your the best for your son. There's no easy answer-you just keep running............................. Andrew's dad

  • I dont know if its the distraction that has helped but its working!!!!! I finally feel like i am getting his teeth clean. I hope you have found a method too that gives you more brush to teeth time.

  • I applaud you for posting this, I have a very orally sensitive 7 year old autistic child. We have only recently found a method that works for us. While he is in the shower i put my arm behind his neck and very calmly sing the ABCS, while i brush, I do this 3 times. allowing him to spit in between. We still use kids toothpaste.

  • If your still having issues with brushing his teeth, have you tried doing it while he is in the shower and relaxed? I found it easier to brush my son's teeth in the shower because he's more relaxed. Of course this would depend on his he enjoys showers or not.

  • @uniquemommy1984 Giving Andrew a shower is like bathing a cat.

  • @uniquemommy1984 He brushes his own teeth, but does a really poor job and in the morning it takes for ever, that s why I do it for him, other wise he would have gum problems and and tooth decay.I only get about ten second of brushing time in-but you do what you can. Andrew's a very happy person.Don't know what would happen to him if something happened to me.. dad

  • Good job dad

  • Ever tried you DAD having a tooth brush and showing him how to do it instead of stuffing the tooth brush down is throat!!!

  • hey , whatever works, good job dad.... you are great....my son likes to swollow toothpaste, so we use very little just in the am. he now has advanced to the battery toothbrush, but only tolerates it for a little bit.. he won't spit though

  • I will give it a try

  • Just regular old crest-Andrews dad. I brush a little harder than he does or his mom. He won't brush in the morning just at nite but it's really weak.

  • @briarwoodboy1 I suggest getting him some non-mint toothpaste. The superfluoridated prescription toothpastes are usually very mild.

  • when my daughter was much younger she was what they call tactile defensive and that included orally.. now she enjoys it . she even has an electric tooth brush she uses and sometimes you can hear her laughing because it tickles.

  • Thats a good approach, no nonsens helps even though this might look a bit strange to some people.

  • I only wish I could have a littlt of Andrew's hair to cover that growing space on the top of my head....... Andrew's dad

  • This dad is my hero.

  • poor little boy when i went 2 the doctor a boy with autisim was screaming an crying cause his throat hurt so bad:'(

  • great job Dad! You get it!

  • I have aspergers and my father would of said "grow up" what a fantastic dad in this clip

  • there are more difficult moments than that? i know, isn't easy what i saw here, but just i ask...

  • It's because it's mint toothpaste and it burns. The father should use something mild.

  • @SepherStar how do you know what type of toothpaste his father is using?

  • @jazcor Because I can see it in the video.

  • Just get some brass knuckles and punch out all his teeth! then you wont have to brush them anymore!

  • @multisnootylives1 That is disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself for saying something like that. I bet you couldn't spend 5 minutes doing what he does EVERY day.

  • you are an amazing dad ur so patient and caring thank you we need more people like you in the world

  • Yes, thank you! My son is 7. He's not yet formally diagnosed. But, things like this are such a struggle every day, and i hadnt even attributed them to ASD. So many pro's now have said they believe he is on the spectrum. And i keep finding one behviour after another to add to the list :-(. Brushing his teeth, his hair, putting on clothes.... Thank you for making me feel like we're not the only ones coping with this!

  • i was like this too

i think its because of the taste

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for showing others with this video what we parents of Autistic kids go through every day. My son just turned 7 and is high functioning autistic, but this is still what I go through every day brushing his teeth.

    Again, thank you.

  • keep on tryeing! My son is 18 and now this goes quite well. But going to dentist or doctor is so awful, and now becauce he is tall and big, people are afraid.....but usually he hits himself, not the others......

  • The littlest things can sometimes be a struggle when it comes to Autism I know. My son is 6 with Autism as well. It's obvious there's alot of love there. Keep up the good work!
