TWC San Diego has the new firmware, and more providers are deploying it, albeit slowly. One person said it could do 6 tuners, but I think he is in the beta program. I agree on this information, as it's even better to only need 1 TA.
Unfortunately not at this time... it only works with Cable subscriptions and Cable systems. DirectTV used to have a product like this about 2 years ago but never brought it to market. I wish they would revive that product. People really were excited about it.
@rendezvous65 Yea I see that now. Thanks. This is the single greatest thing since sliced bread. I even stream tuners to another computer on my home network. Are you kidding me?! HDTV in other rooms without having to buy another TV. Thanks Ceton! You're top shelf for certain.
One mythtv developer has the card, and it could get supported as early as .25, but it would be limited to channels marked as copy freely, as mythtv isn't cablelabs complaint, nor can support DRM and a protected video path. It might make a good Clear QAM tuner for it.
@smithm34 We have shipments arriving on a regular basis but not to a specific date schedule. We do have many back orders as of 10/25/2010 but Ceton has said those will get filled soon. After that we will have stock on hand for immediate delivery!
@gcannoncpc To give you an idea, I ordered mine in April and just received it YESTERDAY! I think most of the issues have been ironed out but, with all the backorders still needing filled, if you ordered today I don't think you could realistically expect it to arrive before year's end.
@aaron5364 Be careful on buying this. It's a good product, but Cablecard might not be around long enough for this product to continue working down the road. It's a helluva risk at 40 bucks. when they release a 200 dollar version with 2 tuners than it might be worth the risk.....maybe. Most stories are declaring this tech a failure, and congress is trying to cram another standard down our throats.
You really have no idea what you're talking about man. Cable cards are widely used all over the place, they are in whats considered the best looking tv of all time, the pioneer kuro. As well as built into several major digital cable boxes, used for easy access of programming. Such as the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC as well as 20 other models. Cox and other cable companies issue these boxes out themselves, do some research, before spuing garbage.
I noticed a bit of choppiness when watching TV. However, it may be your camcorder and not the TV signal. I have had problems with tuners in the past with choppy reception - even with a Core2Duo. Do you happen to experience ticks when watching live TV? Or perhaps record any ticks when recording 1 or more shows? What do you do about background processes? Do you just disable pretty much everything not being used for watching TV?
The poor video quality is related to the cheap camcorder we used to produce this video. The TV does full 1080p with execellent quality! IT used ver little system resources (5% CPU, very little memory).
...man is the sticker off center on the cpu cooling fan or is the fan going? Looking at that makes me feel nauscious!!! Other than that it's about darn time you rolled this out. Any chance of the rumored 2 tuner model for about $150?
Just ask them for a M Card (Multi Stream Cable Cable). They usualy give yout first one free with your currrent account but addtional one you rent from between $2 and $6 per month).
Hey, Thanks for the info. Just another question. Do they need to know its for the 4 tuner type or are all the m cards capable of doing 4 chanels at once?
@gcannoncpc Comcast actually told me only the "standard" cablecards are free. The M-Card costs $1.50 per month even though it's the first one. Each area may be different, but that's what happened in my situation.
The cable card activation key is supplied when you run the Digital Cable Advisor tool contained in teh Media Center Extra Gallery. There is no cost.... it is part of all Windows 7 operating systems. If you already have a Cable Card Ready PC, you can use the key that came with your system. If you have lost your key Engadget posted one on their web site that will work for anyone.
I am salivating for this product. Thanks much for creating it.
However...
If you make another video, please either use video capture for the screen shots or turn off auto-focus. The constant zooming in and out is distracting.
Well we havent receive any shipments yet. The cards are still in manufacturing. We hope to receive our first shipments at the end of June or earlyJuly.
Nice video!!! It's great to actually see that the product does exist!!! Can we get an additonal video for SDV customers showing how to hook up 2 Tuning Adapters???
The Ceton InfiniTV 4 supports SDV. You must get the SDV adapter from your cable provider. Comcast in the Houston, Texas area has not implemented SDV so we can't test or produce a video yet demostrating that capability... but keep checking back.
It is one o the videos that is hard to find I am happy somebody took the time to do this!!!!

Cisco made a new 4 tuner TA firmware, so only 1 TA is needed if your cableco has deployed this firmware.

Absolutely... any cable company that supplys CableCards must support this technology (FCC rules).

The Ceton card only works with M-Cards (multi channel) not S-Cards (single channel).

Comcast says they only have a duel channel card. Will the Ceton take two duel channel cards to maximize the quad channels?

@dmarvin811 you only need 1 cablecard for all 4 tuners.

Not currently. Boxee or XMBC would have to right the approved drivers.

Next time you record like this don't leave the camera on autofocus. I almost got seasickness watching this.
I can't wait to get mine and set it up. The best feature for my use is the streaming to other PCs in the house.
