It sounds a bit hollow to me. I would recommend putting some carpet on the top and bottom and filling the inside with insulation and you'll get more of a bass drum type of sound.
@canadiandrummer54 I'm not usually mean to people on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter. But are you still trying to educate American about their own music? When you say "the old blues style of New Orleans" are you talking about Zydeco? Because there's New Orleans jazz, and there's Zydeco. There's a lot of different styles of Blues, but the big ones are Delta, Texas, and Chicago. I'm sure someone at some point in time used a cajon in N'Orleans, but that doesn't make it a tradition.
they whole "i can do it myself" attitude came from the old delta blues musicians in the thirties that only had a guitar, mic, and left shoe because they were to poor to afford the other one. we use stomp boxes to support them and show our love for that style.
I'm not getting into a damn flame war in the internet, this is gay. Just one question - which I really hope you don't bother to answer. How the hell is a Canadian gonna an American Blues musician that a Afro-Peruvian is a traditional American Blues instrument?
@canadiandrummer54@canadiandrummer54@canadiandrummer54 I understand the frustrations of being an out of work musician, but 1. The stompbox is an old American Blues tradition, for those old timers who couldn't afford or didn't know any drummers. 2. A lot of us still can't afford a drummer, or don't know any drummers who want to play Blues. I personally know 6 drummers, and every one of them wants to do heavy metal. Lastly - 3. There is no reason to be a jerk.

@canadiandrummer54 And when you don't have your drummer with you? When you need to play unaccompanied but still want some percussion, what do you do? You get out the stomp box, that's what they're for. As for the unappreciated part, that's just your personal experience and as for the 'not being in a group' part, either there genuinely are no bands around your local area with a drummer vacancy, in which case you'll just have to wait, or you're not looking hard enough.
You could get a second stomp box. One sealed closed for more bass tone. Then leave this one more loose for more of a block sound. Other tips I have seen is adjusting EQ's on the amp.
The jacks come with a nut and washer, drill a hole and stick it through and put the nut on. take a look at a jack installed in a electric guitar. Its very easy.
Great video mate. Was wanting to make one myself but didnt know what to use and didnt want to spen a fortune on a ready made box. What pickup did you use?

@canadiandrummer54 Wait - are you mixing up "cajon" with "cajun"? LMFAO. Can you please just go away and leave the big boys alone?
