Well now own my own sports car (Hyundai Tiburon) and it’s a manual and let me just say this, I’ll NEVER EVER drive an automatic again; THEY’RE CRAP!!! Okay, my last comment was kinda mean. You actually did pretty good. LOL...I learned to drive on an automatic, (my parent's car) but my first car was a stick shift, had a blown head gasket, leaked brake fluid, had expired registration, and made funny noises when I put it in 3rd gear. Depending on the state, you have to be at least 15.5 or 16 to get a Learner's Permit. I'd say he probably just turned 16. He looks about 16. But what the hell..he's just learning to drive a car, and he starts with a stick shift?? Not a good idea. The first time driving a car is like nothing else. It's hard enough just getting used to how touchy the brake is. And if this kid were driving anywhere near where I live, I'd seriously just get off the road and start taking the bus.

Over here you learn in a manual because when you get your licence, you can drive anything, if you learn in a auto, you are restricted to autos only. Picking up changing gear is easy. Only time will get you to the point where it is an unconcious action, ie you don't have to think about it. The hard stuff is driving in traffic, backing into a park, 3 point turn, hill starts, skid control, coordination, and easing the fears of the parent next to you when you make a booboo, thats a biggie lol.

So learning to drive an automatic first STOPS A person from wanting to learn to drive a stick. PLUS YOU CAN SAVE UP TO $6000 when you purchase a 5-speed. HOWEVER IT IS VERY HARD TO SELL A STICK cuzza all of the Pu**ys out there that can't drive one.
