Let's say I'd have to choose between the 5800XM and Omnia HD. I'd like to use the device as my pocket cinema and have a decent on screen qwerty keyboard as well. Which one would you recommend?
u mention the checkmark on the upper left. i can definitely see how that would be a pain. but i usually use the send button on nokias. does the send key not work the same as pressing the checkmark? thanks
Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Saving up for this phone ATM. Quick question, does it come with the Shure headphones and the 8GB card like in the Hong Kong version?
I THINK you should hav a little note at the bottom to tell us what u r videoing with at that time, good review,i was thinking of getting that phone, but im going to wait until the n97 cums out!
Hi Steve, just wanted to inform you that I managed to get a hands on look at the upcoming Nokia N97... rather disappointing. I still feel that Nokia are making a mistake with their "Plastic Glass" design.... well people are buying it no doubt but a lot of people tell me its not comfortable and would prefer an E series
The reason they go with resistive touch screens is because in Finland (and some other target countries) you have to use your phone with a gloved hand sometimes. Capacitive screens are generally superior but HAVE to be used with bare skin.
Great review once again Steve. Keep it going. What I would love to see is Nokia a N82 Slider with a 2.6 or 2.8 screen with a keypad like the E66 or the good old N80. Now that would be something.
Oh yes Selection is exactly why you need to touch something once - Palm Pre in their inaguaral presentation shows the same thing. Executing a seletion requires a doubletap; for most instances.
Hey Steve does Nokia even bother to look at your review and listen to your cons about the phone? Do they listen? I hope they fix all the cons on the 5800. Another thing i wish they would add is, when texting and you put the phone on landscape when typing it automatically put it to landscape keyboard.
Is this with a firmware version equivalent to the one i keep hearing about in the forums that is being flashed the unofficial way? Many of those folks were pretty happy with the improvements.
How well does Opera Mini work on this device? Does it have to have the pretend Dpad on the screen? It works great on my WM Touchscreen.
Is there a QWERTY option in portrait? I'm quite used to using PocketCM KB in portrait on my Tytn and Tilt.
after i saw ur review i rushed to the store to take a first hand look myself ......not impressed though the touch screen is not sensitive enough the screen has to be pressed hard i felt i cud break it any moment......what r ur comments
Good review. The inability to select multiple items is indeed weird. Also, too bad it lacks a 3D accelerator. Oh well, you can't have them all, i guess. BTW, i sent you a PM recently...
Yes, but you have to MARK them one at a time. I was talking about CONTIGUOUS items, selecting them with a swipe, for example. On trad S60 phones, you hold down shift or hash and use the d-pad etc.
Steve, can you try to inform your contacts at Nokia to make a significant change to this issue, please?! Also on a side note, can you send me a direct contact or email to look into WHY my fist & only WOM E71 shipment is being held at Customs? Email me directly and I can give more details. All communications via email or from their site have led to no responses. Thanks.
Tricky. Video best on Omnia HD. Keyboard best on 5800.

I would appreciate more info.

In this case, yes. Consider it an advanced tip 8-)

I do agree with you about Nokia's obsession with that useless multimedia key. I guess it's their childhood thing ha ha.

Of course. A smartphone wouldn't be smart without Wi-Fi.

Well, I do put up a headline at the start of each review, plus an info panel at the end... I don't want to waste screen real estate!

Steve, are you going to review the LG Renoir? I don't know if it is going to come out with a version compatible with the U.S. 3g, but I am hoping.

Maybe. It's not very special. Kind of a Viewty with higher-res cam...... We'll see.....

Hi there!
Can someone help me pleas?
wich phone should i choose?
Nokia
E71
N79
N82
N95 8gb
I relay cannot deside i like the e71 very much (great batery, nice landscape screen), but the other ones have a 5mp camera, so what do u think?
Pleas reply!
zokna 3 years ago
e71 is the winner.
fast processor, good 3G+ connection, good battery life.
it's a clear winner, comes with a 2gb card, nice leather case and a leather strap out of the box.
shimmytsgk 3 years ago
i'll have to agree with the e71. Cant beat symbian + QWERTY + Amazing quality metal construction.

No. A better way is to have support for a long tap and for a drag operation. Best of both worlds...
stevelitchfield 3 years ago
you are becoming symbian only now
garvintimmann 3 years ago
Eh? The previous shows all had swathes of Windows Mobile devices.... I don't feel at all bad about making this one mainly about a Symbian device....

Does this have full exchange support?
Great review.
zephxiii 3 years ago
This is with v11 firmware, yes. Flashed officially though. Didn't try Opera Mini, but apparently it can be tweaked to work full-screen etc.
And yes, there's a qwerty option in portrait. And yes too to Exchange support, I think, though I wouldn't know how to try this, having never used MSE.

I suspect the store demo model had been prodded and bashed a lot. The touchscreen's pretty good. But not in the same league as the iPhone's.

Apparently you CAN select multiple items through a separate context menu?
flamingsnot 3 years ago
Not to automatically select CONTIGUOUS items though. Which is what I said. 8-)
Marking items one by one, manually, is VERY tiresome.
stevelitchfield 3 years ago
My apologies, so you mean you can only mark one at a time, i.e. tapping each item to select it?
flamingsnot 3 years ago
You can mark items one at a time, yes, tapping it and then using the appropriate Options menu function.
stevelitchfield 3 years ago
So you CAN'T actually mark 5 items at once and choose to delete/move/send etc?!
flamingsnot 3 years ago
Yes, but you have to MARK them one at a time. I was talking about CONTIGUOUS items, selecting them with a swipe, for example. On trad S60 phones, you hold down shift or hash and use the d-pad etc.

How? it's on loan from Nokia. Why? Well, I don't LOVE it. It has all the pros and cons mentioned. Overall not as good as my N95 8GB though....
