I don't know many people that can pick up a 13lb bass with their rod to put it in the net... then the fish went off camera for a bit and came back after a second... somethings a little "fishy"...
@EMILYBRO18 Early february in Norcal... oh I wish we had bed fish that early. Perhaps you should go to my website and read the full post, I lay it all out there.
Just take into consideration that there are strong fish and weak fish no matter what the size. I have seen 5lb largemouth that fought so hard I thought I had a 20lber on. I have also seen men 6 feet 6 inches tall and 300 lbs that couldn't bench press 150lbs.
It depends on water quality (dissolved oxygen and temp), the water enviroment, and if the fish are prespawn, spawn, or postspawn as to how strong they are.
@tacticalbassin I just saw a vid of Bill Dance catching a 13 lber too and it didn't take one inch of drag. I think when they get that big they are too fat to fight. Come to Miami and catch a 13lb peacock bass and he will run ur ass halfway around the state of Florida!! Anyways nice catch :)
@miamiwax the fight is not why we fish for em. in fact i want the fight to be as short as possible with a big fish. its the outsmarting em. these are this big because they're smart
it's nice that you released the fish so you can catch it when it gets bigger you know you could make a replica all you need is a picture and the length and girth
@tacticalbassin theres ways that they can stuff the fish from the picture. plus the weight and length. They dont need the actual fish anymore. I have a 35lb 53 inch musky above my fireplace just from taking the weight, length, and picture.
@RGutz81 Thanks! That particular camera can't be edited on the water and we only had limited disc space. We turned it off to conserve in case we caught more later.
No sir, that fish was caught in early February (that's 6 weeks before the spawn in Northern California) She had just chased the bait to the boat on the cast before and I could still see her heading back to deep water. So I am casting to a fish I can see but its just a big swimbait fish that swam up from a deep ledge.
Nope. The jig hook had failed on that particular hudd and had been replaced by a treble. It was the one and only hook and she was stuck well, right in the lip.
What A BEAUTY! still trying to get bite on my hudds...

@miamiwax Agreed. My friend just hooked and landed a 14 pounder and it fought for a grand total or 45 sec. on 10lb test. BORING.

@miamiwax trust me they fight with normal tackle
MrKilln4gold 3 months ago
Miamiwax depends on your rod and reel if you are using a four foot nine rod and four pound test they will fight like crazy

@BassFishing375 Yeah, she's still out there for someone else to catch. I've got other big ones, no need to make a replica of this one.

Sure, I think I could put something together. Keep an eye on the website over the next few weeks and I may give some tips for sight fishing.
tacticalbassin 1 year ago
Even though it was not a bed fish, you should be congratulated on such a fine catch.
I have caught dozens of DD largemouth on bigbaits, but very few bed fish that large.
Bed fish are very witty...any tips on how to up my game?
I really enjoy fishing the Central and Nor Cal lakes for giants...I have done reasonably well at Del Valle, Chabot, Coyote.
Keep up the awesome catches and videos!
