  • Love watching & Listenning to Gordon talk as well as Sing......:)

  • 13 dumb asses

  • Yes thank you Gordon for so much amazing music

    sunaj

  • Canada have there own version of James Taylor......a fantastic artist

  • @bekindunlimited: Canada wins big time in that race (in my opinion)!

  • @StumptownBoy ..Gordon is a truly great artist with a fantastic catalogue of songs ,,,however James Taylor legacy will be much more profound and lasting, both are superb ..but James Taylor wins hands down [ in my opinon]!!!!!

  • @StumptownBoy I'm and American and I agree with you; Gordon sings lyrics more to my liking than Taylor. I am always irritated by people who feel it is necessary to make comparisons of artists when, in fact, they are both great. It's like comparing one person's love experience to another person's, it just can't be done and means absolutely nothing. We just saw Lightfoot and his band last Sunday at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania near our home and they were perfect.

  • @StumptownBoy I meant to say I agree with Bekindunlimited about Lightfoot.

  • neil young

  • Nice songs except for the adds...sorry I don't liston to adds I get enough of that on watching TV.

  • Is George's uncle the pro hockey player, or some other Paul Coffey?

  • Lightfoot is WAY underrated. I think he's a better writer and performer than Dylan, although some call me nuts for saying so. But even some ardent Dylan fans agree with me that Lightfoot is a much better singer --

  • Saw this wonderful singer live playing in the bay area some ten years back. I have been listening to his music for 40 years now. Never tired of listening to him.

  • what a great guy !!!!

  • pity the interviewer is a bit of a dick

  • @frideswide

Really? What makes you say that? I'm not getting that vibe.

I think Stromboulopoulos is a gracious host and interviewer and as an American who wasn't introduced to him until I went to college close to Canadian border, I have to say I prefer him to just about every American late night host I've seen. The one thing I didnt like about this video though is that Stromboulopoulos seemed like he missed the point Lightfoot was making about not worrying about death. Otherwise good.

  • October 5, 2008. Little Rock Arkansas.

Our Daughters bought us tickets to your concert for our anniversary. Our Last Concert together.

    Lost her in December 09.

Thanks for our memories over the last 40 years.

    Tem

P.S. : Darn good concert , by the way!!

  • Love this man's body of work. I was supposed to meet him at a private event in Memphis when he became ill. I'd still love to meet him someday. Being a Hammond / Mellotron player who knows. Thanks to the Hour for uploading this interview.

  • great interview, a great mix of COOL guys and Canadian niceness :) :)

  • Gordon the Awesome, The Man ,The Legend, The Immortal! Nuff said!

    Thanks for posting!

  • why this interviewer strugglings in his chair? Any bugs???

This man is fantastic !!! His voice , his aura, his hits !!!

    Chapeau !!!

If you could read my mind ..........

  • Get it? United Artists Label?

  • Fuc* your adds !

  • he sure is great

  • This interviewer SUCKS! The interviewer is so irratating, and he asks dumb questions. He really ruins the interview.

  • Absolutely love his music. Most recently, saw him at the historic Majestic Theater in San Antonio... February, 2009, I think. GREAT performance in such a beautiful, unusual venue.

  • This Man is Canada! Thank You for the memories Gordon!

  • What a great and true man. He's the Ernest Hemingway of songwriters and his songs will last forever.

  • sadly, it was his girlfriend Catherine Smith who injected John Belushi with the fatal dose that killed him

  • I'm a great fan of Bob Dylan, who is a legend as a musician. Gordon Lightfoot is of the same calibre

  • What a great musician and person! Good interviewer too.

  • GL is such a nice humble person- I wish more musicians had this persona...

  • @andyofinbar true. He is very open to other emerging musicians, such as myself, back in 1993 with Paul Stookey, when I opened for them. I shoulda listened and stuck with Folk Music. As far as Folk Musicians go, Gordon Lighfoot is one of the best.

  • Great show last night in Wenatchee, Washington

  • ive known his music all my life.

  • Wow............ I'd never heard him talk just one on one before but what a great, just genuinely cool guy.

  • Nice of him to forget a legend's name at 09:55.

  • Man, he aged gracefully.

  • @Dresden1065 yeah...he's like hydrating and stuff...

  • i love himmmmmmm

  • @zimmawoman - I agree, GL is a great artist!

  • What is that sweater all about? Are those playing cards? And how come you look so young and I look so old?

  • What is that sweater all about? Are those playing cards?

  • George Steponallofus was a Clinton official.

  • What a lovely man!

  • Thank you Gordon. Thank you.

  • is it REALLY necessary to put commercials on here?

  • really cool to hear him & looking great awesome unique canadian 1st classt

  • I would have been great to have Gordon and Jim Croce on stage together

  • Man,that guy is a unique Legend,,love to see him in a band with Ginger Baker and a same type bass player!..

  • Got to love Gordon. He is the Canadian we all want to be...

  • Screw Springsteen. Gordo's The Boss.

  • Awesome Man,,Great stuff no one will touch this man's gifts.

  • Gordon Lightfoot is the finest singer-songwriter on the planet - Dylan is a close second - but no one can write songs like Mr Lightfoot. Check out his last album, Harmony, an absolute gem. He's written some incredible songs, all the popular ones we now and love but check out Biscuit City, Dreamland, Anything for Love... songs that will last forever.

  • Why doesn't his head flap up and down like Terrance and Phillip?

  • Gordon Lightfoot and Brian Cranston....twin brothers born to different mothers at different times.

  • @wyattnoahliko

Oh my God! He looks exactly like Bryan Cranston. I can't believe I never noticed that.

  • Why does the audience stay dead silent whe George introduces Lightfoot?

  • i have walked through my life with gordon lightfoot and his music by my side .even after 15 + years i automatically know the lyrics to all his songs.Gordon L is implanted in my soul.......Thank you gordon ,,,very.very much!!!!!

  • @umacks I know how you feel.Gordon's music has always filled our home and marked my childhood. When my Dad was too tired to read us a bedtime story he'd sing us to sleep with Knotty Pine or Daylight Katy. Thanks for everything Gordon.Miss you Dad...

  • am i the only one that noticed that at 00:27 george sayd that orillia is 100 000 kms outside of toronto? i think he means 100 km, funny shit

  • @G00FTUBE

I don't know. Maybe he meant 100,000 m outside of Toronto.

  • Gordon Lightfoot for me he ist a great Singer and agood Folk Guitarplayer too.

    Greatings from Germany.

I goo along with all Records of Gordon.

  • The Krayolas love Gordon Lightfoot. The San Antonio rock 'n' roll band have a brand new single called, "Gordon Lightfoot." The song has received radio spins on KNBT-FM "Roots and Branches with Ray Wylie Hubbard," SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio "Kick Out the Jams with Dave Marsh," KSYM-FM's "Jim Beal Show" and KEDA. "Gordon Lightfoot" was also featured on KLRN-TV "Conversations with The Krayolas."

  • He is a legend. What a talent, so down to earth.

  • wow gordon is one true gentleman, very cool ....i expected a totally diff type attitutude, etc, glad i was wrong.....

  • class

  • I have been able to see Gordon Lightfoot twice, one in the early 80's and just last week. He is a great singer and songwriter and I really love his songs. The box set is great. Hope he is able to keep touring for a long time to come.

  • Now I KNOW there's Joni Mitchel and BTO but I TRULY believe God's greatest gifts to the world from Canada are RUSH AND Gordon Lightfoot!!! \m/ \m/ \m/

What a songwriter/singer!!! Pure Magic!! I mean, what better tribute than from the "King" himself! Plus Dylan, etc...

Gordon is the Fuckin' MAN!!!! \m/ \m/ \m/

  • how dare you put a commercial on Gordan Lightfoots interview!!!

  • @RhinestoneRebel

Well said...I feel the same way

  • Such a talented man.

  • This song is so beautiful, pure poetry.

  • Gordon Lightfoot is awesome. Great music and a great guy.

  • What a great guy...What a GREAT interview....

    Gordon rules!!!!

  • The interviewer is a weird person. He will likely do something very bad?

  • @Huffplace

No George is cool and is one of the best and popular people on the CBC

  • @Huffplace

No George is cool and is one of the best and popular people on the CBC

  • there are not enough uploads of Lightfoot in the 70's, if anyone could put more up, please do.

  • Gordon has always beena great song writer and entertainer ever since his first preformences at the Orillia Opera House, he is the pride of Orillia (my hometown, and his) Long Live Lightfoot

  • My mom used to play his records almost every day when I was very young, so his music always really takes me back. I don't really listen to it much but maybe I should. I heard one of his songs in a Burger King last night and it reminded me how much I like it. Funny how things like that can happen. Great to see he's still around.

  • For all the songs he wrote about his unaffectionate, cheating first wife, I'd love to hear an interview asking him about her now. Many of his best songs would not be here today without her.

  • Mr. Lightfoot is a class act on and off the stage.

  • My grandpa went to school with Gordon Lightfoot!!!!

  • Did he get his grade 10? :)

  • Just got back in the house from Gordon's Show at the Ryman in Nashville (My 10th time to see him). Oh my goodness - the MAN still has it. The voice not as strong, some higher notes have been dropped, but my goodness, what a musical/lyrical hero this gentleman is. Hard to believe I have been listening to him for 42 years now. WOW! Gordon, I love you man - God bless you!

  • @nvillekat

Saw him in Atlanta Friday night, for the first time. What a privilege to hear Canadian RR Trilogy live. I wonder if he would sound better if he'd lower the key. Those high notes were painful.

  • Doowopdan - I wondered that myself, as far as dropping down a bit, but I think that would make it even more difficult to hear him. Not sure his voice has the strength to project the lower range well. The amazing & beautiful thing about it is, regardless of how he sounds, his fans love him & are VERY forgiving. They accept & appreciate him for whatever he can give, regardless. Here, his apology for his voice was met with shouts of "You sound great", "You sound beautiful", etc. Just keep singing!

  • Good point. What you describe is really touching. I felt the same "vibe" of love and appreciation in the air at the concert I went to. I'm a big fan of the 50s era, so I'm kind of used to concerts by artists who are past their peak. The fact that he wrote those songs and brought them to us in the first place, is enough.

  • I love Gordon but I hate Stroumboulopoulos. I always hear people saying good things about him but I can't stand his show. I'd rather the power go out.

  • god damn this guy is the most underapreciated artist of his time!

  • love Gordon lf,he is a great musician.

  • As with Mr. Mark Twain, rumours of your death were greatly exaggerated!

    Allabest.

  • Ah...well put together..love it......We Love you Gord..!!

  • insperational,,,include my thank you....out here in cyberspace......the begining will...and aiways.... meet the end...oo

  • Such grace and humility. This guy is legendary and he just wants to keep working and taking care of his family responsibilities. I love being Canadian!

  • Great music from a great guy!

  • Good interview. Intelligent questions and memories. What a wise and inspirational figure Lightfoot is.

  • I love living, a little more, because of GL Thanks for sharing this. I have it saved.

  • nice guy

  • THIS GUY IS MY HERO OF MUSIC. as a guitar player myself gotta say i could only hope to play like him someday

  • Thank-You Mr. Lightfoot!

  • "Fundamental material" indeed! 40 years of it. Thanks Gordon... and thanks for uploading this interview.

  • comparable to neil young i think

  • I love how they refer to the USA as 'down there'!

  • Well, technically, the U.S. is down there. Line of lattitude measure North/South position b/w poles. Canada/US border is 49 degrees N with Canada being above, and U.S. being below 49 deg. N

  • He´s a great artist.

  • What a gentle and humble man. I like it when older artists like Gordon still do live shows because they are so skilled at what they do, they make it look easy. You feel like you are listening to an old friend. When I listen to people like Gordon and Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, who are such great writer/composers, it makes me proud to be Canadian.

  • apart from being one of my all time musical heroes, he was also a very good-looking young man!!!!

  • George Stroumboulopoulos was recently voted "The Gayest Man in Canada".

Borders are just so meaningless aren't they?

    You GO grrl!

  • woodbinedrinker - are you serious???? He doesn't seem particularly gay compared with some of the celebrities we have in this country.....!

  • Such a genuine guy

  • Your remarks are most uncalled for.

  • What a sweet heart of a man.

  • Happy Birthday Gordon.

  • I've been listening to Gord for over 45 years, and his music is still the soundtrack to my life. Few people have the ability to open their souls and sing about what's really in their hearts as Gord does.

  • Gordon, you will never know how much your music meant to me, a displaced Canadian girl in the middle of Africa in 1975 ... to come across your music and be reminded of home ... you will ALWAYS be my Canadian icon. I've been to 3 of your concerts, spanning 25 years ... I owned so many of your LPs I lost count. You're Canadian gold.

  • "witches going by, and the doctors said 'those are the nurses'"...

  • This interview is a treasure, as is the man himself. A must see for all Lightfoot fans as well as folk music buffs in general.

  • super cool guy

  • "If you can read my mind" is a mind alternating song, for me. When I hear it, it transcends me to a through the looking glass place. Unbelievable lyrics, sung by a god gifted musician. Viva Gordon. God bless you man.

  • @flirtwd songs that have a cinematic quality to the lyrics touch you deeper all the way to the core

  • @flirtwd I agree, I hear that song it's almost like having an out of body experience. It's just a beautiful song.

  • Awesome freekin folk musician.

  • hey hziegler , you sound like an arse

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Gordon for all the great songs! Terrific concert last night in Casper, WY.

  • @Wyohome No kidding thanks for the beautiful stories you painted in my mind with your words and music.U r a rare breed thanks.

  • Gordon: Great show in Omaha Thursday night! Be safe on the road!

  • I have been watching a few Hour interviews, and they're all good, but this one, ... I just think Gordon is real. Thanks.

  • I am looking forward to seeing him in Fargo ND. the 30th of Sept. They just don't come much nicer than him. I have listened to his music many years.

  • I was able to see him in Florida twice. I love his music.

  • Gord looks like dennis hopper when hes older. lol

  • I saw Gordon in Chicago in 1973 at the Auditorium Theater. It still to this day is the finest concert I have seen. He carried the show for three hours with a short break. There is no one out there willing to put it out there like that.

  • What a gracious, grounded, wonderful Canadian Icon. Hearing his music takes me back to those early 70's summers listening to him on the radio.....they don't make 'em like that anymore.....

  • Thanks for making this interview available on youtube. I'm gladG L is doing well and still performing.

  • Thanks so much for posting this interview. Gordon Lightfoot means so much to me. Mythic. Mystic. Soul searching music. I swear he was looking at me when I watched him in concert not so many years ago. Thank you again.

  • I drive down Carefree highway every week. I always think of Gordon's song and sing it driving.

  • heard Carefree Highway on the radio the other day and it made me remember how much i like this guy and his music! ;) brought back some nice memories. thanks God for people like him!

  • Look at him age. He is a guy you want to be your childhood friend. Not many of his kind left and certainly only one Lightfoot.

I grew up with your music and love it more I as I have gotten older.

    Go Gordon Go.

Thanks from the Great state of TEXAS

  • The best concert I have ever seen will always be Gordon at The Palace Theater in Albany NY.

  • Gord is just one of those artists who we know will never truly die.

  • He´s a great talent.

  • Epicest Hour Interview EVAR!

  • how is that national treasure doing I havent heard much from the news

  • Hey its George Strombolopollopoplaupolop-offolopuppapupapaplussss....

  • Sorry Neil couldn't be a pimple on Gordos butt

  • Great artist and a great guy, too.

  • A GREAT Canadian Music Icon. He'll never retire!

  • Gotta give Gordon credit for continuing on what he loves best!!

  • With all due respect to Leonard Cohen, Gord is our true poet laureate.

  • love you gordon.you rock!

  • Incredible artist and a real gentleman. Not too many musicians have that combination.

  • Wonderful man. Wonderful.

  • Gotta give it to our neighbors to the north. You guy's certainly do produce some GREAT music. But please KEEP YOUR DAMN SNOW UP THERE WILL YA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hmmmm, the experience of coming out of that coma sounds like a good subject for a song

  • Gordon always did his own thing, Sundown took care of that dribble,, his Sundown and the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald rocked every one in the rock world. This guy is a legend, no doubt.

  • How true.I agree.

  • great piece for a great man. God bless ya Gordon.. Hang tuff

  • It's true, George is a bit lame with this one. Ask more about the songs and the craft of writing.

  • bflogaltxdl

WOW. Just found out that Gordon Lightfoot was trying to see ELVIS at his last Buffalo NY concert - AND I WAS THERE TOO! I will always love your music, Gordon!

  • I dig those pants at :59!!

  • Incredible songwriter.

  • Canada's greatest Canadian. Period. With no disrespect to other great Canadians.

  • Definatly not our greatest....... Like tommy douglas did so much more. And no disrespect to Mr.Lightfoot either. But it's a little unfair to say greatest.

  • What about Geddy Lee of Rush? and don't forget Bob and Doug McKenzie... beauty, eh?
