The Andrews Sisters look pretty horrible here, in their debut film. They were already big singing stars and they'd do well in other low-budget Universal Studios musicals like this one later on, but to start out in Hollywood like this was not auspicious. I recall a quote from Maxene (?) saying that they thought they looked like "zombies" here.
I heard the Andrews Sister's career started really taking off in the late 30s. This would be an early film appearance. You can tell by how far in the background they were placed.
Sheer unadulterated idiocy to compare them to the Marx Brothers. The Marxes didn't really sing or dance all that much, and that is just about all that the Ritzes do. The Marxes were far, far more verbal, i.e. wordplay, puns, etc. Whether you think the Ritzes are good or not is another issue.(I DO happen to like them.) No similarity whatsoever to the Marxes except for "Brothers" in the name of the act. Sheesh!
Yay, I have this movie :) Okay, so maybe the Ritz Bros may not have been on the same level as the Marx Bros. Does it really matter that much? Comedy has just as much variety as the people that perform it. Besides, what other movie has three brothers and three sisters together?
And to somewhat contradict myself. If I had the choice I'd choose the Three Stooges over everyone! So there! HA!
All this idiotic comments about Ritz and Marx brothers. There is no need to compare. You don't think Laurel and Hardy is louse only because Chaplin is better, right?
Shut up and don't be close minded. Then you can see The Ritz Brothers greatness.
This song was very popular in the 40's. I loved the Andrews Sisters. I went and saw them in 1950. They performed all of their songs from 1937-1950. I was 50 when I saw them. They even played their new hit of 1950 called I wanna be loved.
What a fantastic look into the past. These guys were no match for the Marx Brothers. The Ritz Brothers were in a class all by themselves. Take some Danny Kaye, mix in some Red Skelton, and a touch of Red Buttons; that's the Ritz Brothers. Thanks for the memories.
What's horrifying is they made The Andrews Sisters wear those WIGS! But then, Maxene used to always say that Universal promised them the best make-up artist (Jack Pierce, who had just done 2 great beauties, Wolf Man and Frankenstein). So, you get the pictue! The Premier was in the Bronx, I think, and Maxene was so mad she stormed out in the middle of the show and walked all the way back to Manhattan, followed by Lou Levy who was trying to put the fire out. Now, you really get the PICTURE! '-)
I always liked their individuality , Maxene later went blonde in her senior citizen years, as dark hair would have looked out of Place, Laverne stayed red headed until she died at 56, Maxene died at 79 of a massive heart attack, Patty is still alive at 89
This is a classic--marvelous acting, singing and dancing. Hilarious! Eat your hearts out Marx Brothers!

Were "The Ritz Brothers" in any comical (animated) movies? I swear I've heard these voices somewhere in an animated or at least a movie.
