  • One of the finest renditions of Raag "Jog" that I have heard. Jog is my favourite too

(anytime of the day altho' it is midnight raag). Poignant is probably the right word here. Deepak Ram is indeed an "Ustaad" of the bansuri (altho' I am not sure if he would like to wear this title). Pt. Anindo Chatterjee's tabla sangat made the rendition of Jog all the more pleasant. "Kya Baat".

    Regards,

    Subhajit Sen

  • Hello there... Jog is my favorite too. I love it.

This is 'sajan more ghar aaye'

  • mister shishupal. As u know there r many raga's which doesnt contains the RE. The TUN sound of tabla is always always a RE sound. If you then accompany a bansuri player(situation that the raga doenst contains the RE) then its a totally a shame to play the TUN cuz it doesnt sounds good of curz.

Your comment is just unreasonable. U cannot deny this logical argument. And stil i am waiting for those ''pandits and ustad'' you mentioned

  • Good tabla, but excessive amount of much "Na's" on the kinar. Flute accompagnying sounds deeper with with Tin's on the sur and Tun's.

  • So shishyupal...you claim to know it better then

    Pt Anindo Chatterjee...great :D

  • :)) Yo Dindin010 :) Actually it's not my personal opinion, but a common rule set by Pandits and Ustaads themselves: depending on the instrument you accompagny, some bols must be played with restrain. For example, there are different nikaas for Bansuri and Dilruba.

  • That makes AnindoJi a bad accompanying tablaplayer now?

    Even he's 1 of the best tablaplayer(solo& accompanying)nowadays(proved by several artist like pt.Hariprasad(bansuri)isnt worthfull anymore?(search on youtube:suresh talwaker+anindo)

If your statement was right anyway, then why would Deepak choose for A. and why wouldnt Ram stop A for using the NA like u r saying?

Btw do you have any authorized sources for your statement? I am really curious about the pandits and ustad's you mentioned.

  • to shishyupal.

  • Relax :) I never said Anindo Ji was a bad player. I'm Indian, living in Geneva. There is only one tabla teacher in that town: Paul Grant, who learned from Gyan Prakash Ghosh & Nikhil Ghosh. Being the student of Paul Grant, I have the chance to meet regularly Anindo Chatterjee and Nayan Ghosh, all from Farrukhabad gharana. So I definitely know the incredible potential and humility of these players. Concerning my sources: "Vintage tabla repertory", G.Matthias Wegner.

  • Due to charac limit, i couldn't give more details on sources:

"Vintage Tabla Repertory, Drum Compositions of North Indian Classical Music", from Gert-Matthias Wegner, 2004, Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd.

GM Wegner had been a disciple of the late Pandit Nikhil Ghosh for 24 years, his book retraces the thoughts and compositions of the Guru.

Finally, from a most objective view of point as possible, i really think nikaas should adapt the timber of the instrument accompanied.

  • So, yes nikaas according to the timber of the instrument. Now, it's obvious in this video Anindo Ji wanted to experiment different, following his own feeling about the nikaas. Note that he chooses to omit totally "tun", relying mostly on na and short tita's, which is the complete opposite of a Zakir Hussain.

  • character limitation is annoying :), i continue what i was saying.

So, 2 different styles, I personaly like Zakir's choice of tun and tin, because those bols don't stomp on the timber of bansuri. Anindo's style here blends the bols in the flute, which is nonetheless beautiful as well. BUT.. :) some tun's and tin's would add flavor, therefore i said "excessive amount of na's".

  • anindo jis tubla accompaniment is near perfect(as nothing is perfect in this world).

  • I dont know if Anindo ji wants to experiment. Where does he says that?

    Its your interpretation and opinion.

  • Every tablaplayer should be recognized individualy. It shouldnt be like, Anindo has to do it the way Zakir does.

I believe that the older generation thought in Indian Classic music should be penetrated. Like once the style drupad was splitted into khayal. You still have people who dont like the idea of khayal. But nowadays Khayal is more appreciated and world widely more being practiced then drupad.

IF you WOULD be right, then the same(drupad xmple) is going to happen to the ''na theory''.

  • ptNikhil Ghosh learnt from the same teacher as Anindo Chatterjee did, as you would know (ptJnan Prakash Ghosh)

So if that is true, we have a big conflict now concerning authority. And you were mention SOME ustadS and pt'S. so i am still waiting for those authorizable references.

i cant be satisfied with this reaction.

  • i <3 it

  • exquisite

  • Sounds alot like Puriya Dhanasree

  • waw

  • kyabhaate !! pure classical

  • Wah ! Raag Jog is my favorite raagas. Mystery, Erotism, Meditation, Sadness, Joy, Heroism, all in one feeling raga.
