fort benning is declining.......when i went through, all drill sgts were airborne infantry rangers. I dont disagree with other mos drill sgts training there as long as they are combat arms, but i think fort benning should make every drill sgt graduate ranger school before instructing.

i went to marine basic, and army basic. It was like night and day. Marine basic was insane. Army basic sucked for different reasons. When i got to Iraq however, none of that shit mattered. The true test of a man or woman is what he does when there is nowhere to run. During Iraq I saw the worst in people regardless of their training. Marines, soldiers, they're just men.
my dad (served in Army) and his friend (served in USMC) go back and forth on which branch is better, and they always cant prove each other wrong cause both branches are made up of strong Americans who servered their nation proudly no matter the branch or time period.

My dream is to be a Navy Seal. I aint dumb, I know its easier said than done. Being apart of one of the most elite forces in the world isn't going to be a walk in the park. But another thing I know is it depends on how much you want it, and I want it extremely bad. By the way- Im Thirteen

In Afganistian joint operations happen as they have in past wars. at the chosin resevour there were Army Dogfaces and Leathernecks Fighting to stay alive

Went through benning almost a decade ago. My last unit I came from we had a lot of these kids to hand-hold. Army has adopted a "let their units take care of it and push them through" mentality. So damn political these days. A candidate understands hitting, screaming and motivation. Not coddling. Break them down. When we went in they told us "From this point foreward, forget your lives. Your wives and women are screwing other men. We are your new family."

@OhSnapsItsApac I'm going in as PFC as well. You can go in as PFC by having enough college credit, an associate's degree, have completed future soldier training, or have referred 2 people for recruitment. For me, I have college credit. IF you already have a bachelor's you go in as E-4 specialist.

Fort Benning is an amazing place I went through college and i'm now a captain who is an aiborne ranger the army proves that you can do anything you put your mind to!

I was trained a little different than these guys. My drill sergeant wanted to make sure i went down "wash out lane" . I made sure that I was not going down there. Then was placed in the advance training, then to special training. I was then part of an Elite unit...a classified unit. This Basic training looks easy, i never had anything easy......But it made me a man, with honor. I won my drll servant respect.

@77musica You are wrong to say the Marines don't care about other branches. If you believe that then you forgot one of the main values we as soldiers, marines, airmen, and seamen all have in common. If you can't go on a deployment and watch another allied soldiers back, even if he's not from the US, then you are unfit to be a soldier. If you really are an NCO of any kind, whether corporal or otherwise, and you truly believe what I've read, then you should get your stripes ripped off your collar

@77musica The Corps does in fact teach respect. corpmen are navy but many serve right alongside Marines and in fact keep them alive when they get shot till medevac arrives. In Afganistian joint operations happen as they have in past wars. at the chosin resevour there were Army Dogfaces and Leathernecks Fighting to stay alive

Went through benning almost a decade ago. My last unit I came from we had a lot of these kids to hand-hold. Army has adopted a "let their units take care of it and push them through" mentality. So damn political these days. A candidate understands hitting, screaming and motivation. Not coddling. Break them down. When we went in they told us "From this point foreward, forget your lives. Your wives and women are screwing other men. We are your new family."

@gsethers... good luck... 11B is pretty tough MOS you will enjoy your training at Fort Benning, which is probably the toughest basic training out there... I went to Fort Leonard Wood and they said Benning was tougher

@OhSnapsItsApac I'm going in as PFC as well. You can go in as PFC by having enough college credit, an associate's degree, have completed future soldier training, or have referred 2 people for recruitment. For me, I have college credit. IF you already have a bachelor's you go in as E-4 specialist.

....Back in the early 90s I remember one cherry boy arrived in our unit at Fort Lewis. Well I notice his team leader was chewing him out for doing something wrong. Half way of the chewing out this cherry boy pull out and gave the Team Leader a Stress Time Out Card! Kinda a time out for being chewed out type of card!!! I was trained a little different than these guys. My drill sergeant wanted to make sure i went down "wash out lane" . I made sure that I was not going down there. Then was placed in the advance training, then to special training. I was then part of an Elite unit...a classified unit. This Basic training looks easy, i never had anything easy......But it made me a man, with honor. I won my drll servant respect.
