But I think what makes The Office unique is that it doesn't resort to a heavy doze of surrealism for absurdity. Ricky's idea of doing a true-to-life style of comic is genius, and in a way rather noble.

Dissagree. Parky gives this impression so that Ricky tells the story of the office, instead of putting words in his mouth. This is one of the reasons that Parky is one of the best interviewers of our time.
