This was Steve's best Florida team, for sure. Had it not been for dirty Noles (how many times have the Noles' dirty tactics messed up the Gators? Late hits?) and injuring Earnest Graham, and the Tennessee game being pushed back to AFTER the FSU game and his injury, the Gators would certainly have played for the national title against Miami, and I think they have a good shot. That Nebraska team had no BUSINESS being there, and Crouch had no BUSINESS with the Heisman over Rex.
Gator fan here. Still arguably my favorite Gator team ever.
The flip side is all Saban did after this was win 3 national titles and establish himself on the Mt. Rushmore of SEC coaches, and maybe even behind the Bear.
@bturner20 no way buddy you must of forgot about johnny majors saban is a good coach but he still has some legends in from of hime now if he goes to another team and doest this then he is the man like lou holtz the bear darrell royal of texas
Vol fan here. This Florida offense was the best I ever saw take the field. It made the Wuerffel bunch look pedestrian. The UT Fla game in the Swamp was easily one of the best games I've ever seen, similar to this year in the SEC West in that the top 2 teams in the conference were in the same division. Then UT stupidly assumed victory over LSU since we had already beaten them and followed one of the best wins in the program's history with one of the worst. Grossman was a hell of a college QB
This was a hell of a game for Grossman...of course we all know what happen the next week....heartbreaker man!!!...Should had won a championship that year though...[2001]....I remember everyone wanted to see us play Miami which would had made for a great game!!
@SoopamanLuva1 gees I couldn't agree with you more. The 2001 squad was a heck of a team; when they were clicking, very difficult to stop. Definately championship worthy but we just dropped the critical games. Should have been a Florida vs. Miami battle for the crown that year, by far the two best teams in the country.
@mcmgator The best 2 teams? UF lost, not just once, but twice. Sorry, if you want to be called the best, you shouldn't lose. Ever. But then again, UF isn't used to going an entire season undefeated.
@encycl07pedia I might have known this simple opinion would give some Gator hater an oppurtunity to take a shot lol. If you go back and read I did say "dropped the critical games," and I think everyone understands that losing takes you out of the national title picture. If you actually understood my post I was refering to talent, not to wins and losses.

I'm pretty sure the Gators would've buttraped LSU again in the SEC Championship Game.
