I wonder if Sting was aware of how creepy this song is when he wrote it. It's a beautiful song, if you can think it's about a person in love and not about a stalker obsessed with some famous chick.
This is not a Cello for crying out loud this is a base, a cello is much smaller. Of course he can play the base. Sting used to be a music teacher and as such would have enjoyed a classic instrumental education which means that he is able to play electronically as well as acoustic, so if he is able to play the electric base of course he would be able to play the acoustic or classical base.
Classical/Acoustic Bass is the same compared to Electric Gtr.-Acoustic/Classical Gtr.
It's the same, but well... Acoustic, and built very differently. Also, on acoustic/Classical bass, you can not use a bow (unless you are Jimmi Page) and double basses use bows more than mostly.
Though I agree with you for the most part :D
P.S. If you haven't noticed already, it's spelled 'Bass'
