The inspiration for ~"the beach" was in Thailand Koh phi phi i beleive and not this place.

@kevphillips02 The film "The beach" was just shot in Phi Phi Leh in Thailand but they had to digitally alter the landscape of Maya Bay just to fit the description of Alex Garland in his novel. It is popular belief that the inspiration was indeed Secret Beach in El Nido as Alex Garland spent extended periods living in El Nido, the Philippines. They had initially considered El Nido for the location of the film but due to its remoteness and lack of facilities, they had to look elsewhere.
