The final "puzzle" bothered me because as soon as he sees you through the bars heading up the stairs to the power source (i.e. not pulling the lever and freeing him), it seems like he should notice and come kill you...

Like when Saavedro tries to hit you in the shoulder with his rock attached to a stick, you should be like Jackie Chan where you grab his weapon in time and elbow him in the face!

@FlippieX I know, I've always thought this part was weird. It's just to force the player to solve the puzzle correctly I guess. Because throwing the book makes nonsense, he's not that insane... But it's just how I feel, I don't know why but I like Saavedro.

4;55 is also very well thought of sevetro, because by killing you, he is trapped as well. or maybe he uses the tomaha book that you are carrying to kill the others as well.

As a secondary thing, we don't know what the character we use looks like. For all we know, he lacks arms and works equipment by pecking it with his nose. A reasonable explanation, considering its myst.

Ok,i'm a little confused.  What do the two different levers do exactly, and how do you get the variant to #1?

Hmh I'll try to explain it with my bad english :P

The lever upstairs turns the power ON/OFF. When it's ON, the other lever works. The lever downstairs controls the forcefields. (There are two forcefields: one that blocks the door behind the lever and the big bubble outside).

When the power is activated, one forcefield disappears, according to the position of this lever.

To get the variant I turn the power off : Saavedro is trapped. Then I pull the 2nd lever and turn the power on.

so to get the good ending, once he tells you to pull the levers & stuff, turn the level at the top, & get the book from him, turn the lever at the bottom & then turn the one at the top again, so that he can go back to his village, & you can go back to tomahna with releeshahn?

He's just messed up after being alone for 20 years. Also he met Atrus' sons who were bad people. He doesn't know you and he's kinda crazy. So you have to force him to give you the book and then you can be nice to him or not depending on what kind of person you are. Myself i'm usually a decent if somewhat cautious person.
