When a hard drive at the school went bad we'd replace it and put the old one in a pile, a pile that had been collecting in the storage room since 1991.

When we had to clean them out we lined them up in the hallway and did this. :)

I've got a maxtor from '94 that still works, and yet the only drives that failed on me were a 2.5" and a 3.5" from WD. Hard disks are unpredictable.

i have a maxtor in my dell 8100, been 11 years now and its still running good. Only thing i can say about them is that they are loud when it comes to processing data.

the IBM deskstar hard drives were the best when it came to that. i dont know if they still make them though.

a RAID setup to be rivaled w/... even if u will lose all ur data after 2 weeks. trust me, i had a Maxyor replace a samsung HDD and it was shit... lasted me about 2 years and then BOOM... bye bye files.. stupid ass geek squad for replacing my HDD under waranty...
