Its a test, to see if the missle actualy works, thats why you hear the guy counting and there are so many cameras. You would still have the trade-mark "jack in the box" explosions on any new threat tank.

I believe the TOW has a shaped charges which directs the explosion into a very small cone below it. This penetrates the weak armour at the top of the tank and gives the crew on the inside a nice tan. Also if it hits where the tank rounds are stored they will cook off and destroy it from the inside out with a huge pressure wave.

The TOW2B missile attacks tanks from the top where the tank's armor is weak. TOW2B also features a dual mode sensor and is equipped with two new warheads. Besides, the Russian T-72 has 500mm LOS thickness composite armor with a RHAe of ~750mm vs KE and ~1000mm vs CE. Plus is ERA equipped, even on turret top, which means a top attack like this wont work.

This one is made in Iraq and has RHA only, with a max thickness of only 300mm. RPG-7 can take this one frontally.

The reason there is such a large explosion is from the tank being loaded with its normal combat load of ammunition. It's not fake. Secondly, the reason they shot this tank is because they were testing a new warhead on the TOW. If you notice, the missile detonates once over the tank, which is the new top attack warhead. Older TOWs had a HEAT warhead that was direct attack.

Dumbass, its the ammo stored in the tank, the shitty t-72's that you love dont have blow out panels. This is excatly what happened in desert storm 1 and 2. They were nicknamed "the jack in the box" for a reason.

And the newer APDS rounds were made to defeat kontact-5 ERA. And they do.

However the T-72B with a deadly 125mm SABOT, Can fire a laser-guided ATGM from 5km, with 600mm of armour and with reactive armour aswell (The Russia Only Version) are equivilent to an M1A1 Abrams MBT (Now I'm prepared for alot of people to argue with me after I just said that,, coz everyone thinks that M1A1's are invincible, which they're not, an M1A1's side armour can be penetrated by a single RPG-7V warhead).

I totally agree with you! This explosion, I mean two explosions, are not the sole work of the missile! The second, bigger expl. seems to have originated within the hull of the tank! Could have been its gas tank, which I doubt, or could have been explosives chilin' in the tank, waiting for a "match" to get them going!

The explosion is designed to form two high-speed metal fragments that penetrate the weak top armor. Similar to a shaped charge, but instead of a plasma jet, it creates these bullet-like penetrators.
