  • since coming across this video years ago i like to make visits each christmas. thank you rob - 'til next time.

  • Please upload a 5 or 6 minute version. I think we'd all really dig it. Thanks.

  • Thank you :D

  • What a gorgeous melody! Love jazz guitar!

  • Merry Christmas youtubers!

  • LONGER!

  • Wonderful

  • I Enjoyed it but I wish it would have been longer.

  • Really nice arrangement :-)

  • This is the best cover version here in youtube. Im applying this style the easier and forgiving way with my steel stringed acoustic, a little painful for the fingers but boy, its worth it. Thank you for educating novices like me. More power to you.

  • Great stuff! Just watched "A Charlie Brown Christmas" again last night and enjoyed the "original" version of this. Thanks for the wonderful cover.

  • @GwenEams Charles and Vince made one of the greatest little TV specials in history with that. Epic in every way.

  • Wow, really beautiful. I'm going to try figure out what you did! i It would be great if I could get this down by Christmas... if only I could see those chords :-) Thanks for the beautiful music.

  • Hey man, what amp are you using? Sounds really nice and is very clean

  • @jazzking66 Thank you. The sound is pretty much the guitar. It is the spruce top, which is very old, and very thinly built. I am using an Avalon VT737sp pre-amp right into the board.

  • with all the pop christmas music out, i still prefer this over every single one of them

  • That's beautiful man

  • Really beautiful arrangement, very sweet.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Very nicely done.

  • Very nicely done!

  • tabs PLZ!

  • @RussellJoshuaQuiazon Sorry, I never use tab, and I never play things the same way twice. I just don't have the discipline or time to make myself do that. I do have a couple of video series that if practiced, will help you figure out simple songs like this on your own, by ear. E-mail me, and I'll give you links.

    bourassastudio@gmail.com

  • @RussellJoshuaQuiazon the tabs are the third version on ultimate-guitar: tabs (dot) ultimate-guitar (dot) com/v/vince_guaraldi/christmas_time_ver3_tab.htm

  • @kate17x omg thank yooouuu

  • @RussellJoshuaQuiazon this. also I was going to say Nice Guitar thank you for mentioning the builder.

  • @syzygywell say whaaa

  • @RussellJoshuaQuiazon I was saying "this" to the request for tabs (agreeing those would be nice).. and then adding to the poster a thanks for mentioning the type of guitar.

  • December 2005 Acoustic Guitar Magazine page 116

  • But I may like Rob Bourassa's arrangement better. Either way, don't need to play the same way twice.

  • THE ULTIMATE VERSION !!

  • do you have any tabs of this elgant beauty?

  • @LiveLifeLovingMusic7 No, sorry.

  • So elegant! Thank you!

  • Virtuoso.

  • what sort of tuning is that?

  • @Ianfett2291 Standard E,B,G,D,A,E.

  • so beautiful. i wish i was so inspired...

  • Great rendition :)

  • @Crabsdonthum Thank you.

  • its cool how ur wearing the suit and tie and the watch....reminds me of wes

  • One of my favorite Christmas songs. Beautiful work!

  • i've just watched all of youtube's renditions for this song on guitar and can fully assure you this is the best, by far

  • would you consider doing a tutorial for this song??? I know some guitarists that would truly appreciate it...

  • @Burtnernie I would have to learn it correctly first. I was just flying by the seat of my pant, and put it out as a Christmas card to my guitar builder. I never expected it to be well received, and I would not do such a sparse arrangement if I was preparing a video.

It will take time, but maybe I will arrange it for real, and do it next October, so that people will have a couple of months to practice. I use different chords than VInce, but I think a couple are acceptable for guitar.

  • @robbourassaguitarist -- I understand that it seemed sparse to you, but to me it was very satisfying and entertaining. I've loved that song since I was a kid. Any chance you tabbed that arrangement out, or better yet wrote down the chords? I'm learning guitar (self-teaching, after many, many years putting it off) and having a great time of it. I did find a vastly simpler (but still nice and jazzy) arrangement. I'd love to set the bar higher for myself, though!

  • Oh, that's a beautiful singing tone that instrument gives you, together with your nice fluid technique. Beautiful, nostalgic -- what a pretty, shimmering little coda too, like a light drift of new snow. I wouldn't even take the time to compare it to a piano rendition -- it's a different and equally moving performance

  • Wonderful, just wonderful. ;)

  • I commented a year ago, but your rendition is still one of the best I have ever heard of this wonderful song.

Thank you so much for sharing this with the world.

    You are a true artist

  • @lchunt55 Thank you so much, and Merry Christmas.

  • That just made my morning! This is one of my favorite melodies - and I'm not just talking about Christmas songs...

Your playing did the song true justice. Thanks for sharing it!

  • this is really really beautiful. I'm listenning on christmas eve in Bangkok. This song is such a great if not the best christmas song ever. But your version is so special for me. thanks for sharing.

I'll say it it Thai if you don't mind. โฆตรเพราะเลยครับ เพราะจริงๆ

    Merry Christmas.

  • @jukulele1972 โฆตรเพราะเลยครับ เพราะจริงๆ.

  • Lovely.

  • just beautiful

  • Bravo, says the pianist to the guitarist!

  • @edgoldfarbmusic Thank you says the guitarist to the pianist.

  • What a perfect guitar intrepetration of one of my childhood classics...

  • Bravo! Thanks for sharing!!

  • wooow...beautiful...

  • Nice playing

  • very nice job. I especially liked the diminished thing you did. I recently posted a bass guitar version of this song.

  • Excellent! On my Christmas playlist, too!

  • VERY COOL!

  • do you have cds for sale?

  • You are fabulous. I couldn't spot that guitar. Thanks for telling us where it came from.

  • You really do the song---and the guitar---justice with this exceptionally beautiful performance.

  • Lovely - Happy Christmas.

  • Good job!! The guitar sounded great. As a Luthier I can appreciate the music and the instrument. Have a good holiday season. Blue Max Stringed Instrument Repair.

  • That was amazing. I love the Vince Guaraldi version but you made it come to life on the guitar. I wish I could play guitar like that.

    Mike

  • This is so awesome. You are a fantastic player. Keep up the good work!

  • wow man this has inspired me to make a song. thanks, peace!!!!

  • Rob, This is simply beautiful, and inspiring to a fellow guitarist. Gorgeous tone, and nice right hand, especially . Cheers!

    Chris

  • Wow man you are a true artist. you get my 5 stars. Who makes that guitar??? its so beautiful sounding>looks antique. like an old gibson or Stromberg yew yorker

  • @timdoog42 Thanks so much. I got that archtop in Nashville almost 20 years ago from a phenomenal builder named Gary Zimnicki. A lot of guys in New York order his guitars, but he is actually from my home state of Michigan.

I have many of his instruments.

  • @robbourassaguitarist I loved that copy of the Gibson L7 he made. bet i could never afford one.lol wish i had one like that tho. so rich in sound quality. not many great Luthiers left

  • @timdoog42 Yeah. I saw that copy of the 1938 L7 he made. that waz so beautiful sounding.I like the smaller F holes too.does he have a website???

  • Wonderful rendition. Thank you and congratulations.

  • nice

  • Beautifully played. Thanks for sharing.

  • @yellowdog22 Thanks so much.

  • Beautiful. Always loved this song.

  • Magic! Pure & Simple

  • Beautiful tone and wonderfully played my friend. Thank you .. G.

  • Fantastic music!*****

    BRAVO!

    Olga/

  • Great!!!!

  • Just wow. WONDERFUL!!

  • Hello Rob! I was blown away listening to your rendition of this song, not just because it is a great take on one of my favorite holiday pieces but because I'm currently interning with your friend Randy. He JUST showed me some of your other work last Thursday, so imagine my surprise when I stumble upon this without entering your name in the search field. The little coincidences in my life never cease to amaze. Doesn't hurt that the song was nice either!

  • Amazing :0)

  • Thank you for posting. (TvT)

  • one of my favourite tunes. you cant play this song and make me unhappy. but the way you treat it is perfect. there is an emotional message in music that is intangible. you, my friend, have heard that message.

  • A friend just showed me this video. I love it!

    Great job @robbourassaguitarist :]

  • Thanks so much.

  • This song always gives me the chills, there's no Christmas without Vince guaraldi at my house or any other season at that. Beautiful cover.

  • Hello. This is absolutely beautiful. Would you mind e-mailing me the music to this piece? I'm trying to learn some Christmas tunes before the season comes. Thanks!

  • @Jknc1122 I don't have any music for the piece unfortunately. I am just winging it, and I am pretty sure I changed it a lot.

  • Comment removed

  • @robbourassaguitarist I only wish, someday, that I may be as proficient as you on guitar :) Wonderful job again!

  • beautiful

  • @njbc420 Thanks so much.

  • Merci moniseur, I like the way you do it. Sounds good for the guitar. Thanks again. You have a beautiful guitar.

  • Thanks, I've begun to figure that out. What key are you in? I'm playing it in E and I'm getting it, but it is KILLER on the wrist. Some of these chord changes are crazy, but that's what I love about Gurarldi.

  • @pattyluss I'm in E. Yes, his chords are great, and a lot doesn't transfer to guitar well. I do it a bit faster, because the guitar doesn't have the sustain of the piano either.

  • @robbourassaguitarist If you don't mind, what are the 4 chords in the intro? I tried to emulate them from what I remember of Vince, and I just can't seem to get it.

  • @pattyluss I don't do it like Vince. I use E69 and B13b9.

  • So very lovely. And what a great tone! Where did you find the music for this? I would really love to get a hold of it.

  • @pattyluss I think you can buy the original sheet on this in any music store. I changed it to fit the guitar, so I was just flying by the seat of my pants, and trying to remember what I heard from Vince's recording, though I changed it up a bit.

  • Sweet!

  • This made me feel warm inside. Beautiful piece.

  • that's wonderful.

  • @troubleclef No way. If anyone wants to hear wonderful, go listen to troubleclef's version on this channel. Tony is a genius folks.

Thanks Tony. I hope to meet up with you some day. Great arrangements. I listened to a lot of your channel and it is all great.

  • @robbourassaguitarist

thanks for the plug. glad to have found your channel and will continue investigating

  • Beautiful

  • that was a wonderful rendition of one of my favorite holiday songs. beautifully transposed.

  • Fantastic! Beautiful playing.

  • lovely music

  • Gorgeously played. You create the perfect mood for the song.

  • WOW!.......Your Frets are worn down?.......OMG......In that one sentence,

you completely destroyed what little confidence I had in my own Guitar

playing. I've heard of Frets being "Filed" Down and have even done so. But,

    "Worn" Down? OMG.

  • beautiful arrangement. One of my favorite I have heard

  • Beautiful Cover.. Very nice...

  • your playing is beautiful. i was wondering if you had the sheet music to this. so i can share this beautiful song this holiday. haha. need time to practice practice and practice

  • hey man. beautiful playing. are you playing in standard tuning?

  • @qzguitar Thank you. Yes, this is standard tuning. I rarely use anything else, because my little brain can only handle so much.

  • This is great!

  • Don't think about comparing the guitar to a piano. That's what's great about a song.............you can hear as many versions of the same song as there are musicians who want to play it their way. If you hear WMNR (out of Monroe, CT @ 6:00 P.M. on a Saturday night, or on the web) on a Sat. night, listen to a 1/2 hr program called "One Great Song". One song played by as many artists as can be fitted into a 1/2 hr.

  • Bravo! A great interpretation!

    Thank you ~

  • That was simply beautiful!

  • man someone give me the notes to that because this a very good song

  • that was wonderful

  • Nice. You caught the tone well.

  • pro cover, almost made me cry

  • Me too. I caught a hang nail on that last note, and just about jumped out of my skin.

    Thanks.

  • I disagree that the guitar can never compare to the piano in richness of tone. In fact I think it's the other way around. The guitar accomplishes more with less.

Your arrangements are sweet and very pleasant to listen to.

  • @FretboardMechanics Arguing whether piano or guitar is the more valid instrument is utterly ridiculous, since both are mainstays of many music forms....including the greats of classical, jazz and rock

  • so depressing--and so beautiful. kind of like life-- or a first marriage that is truly falling apart-- all that love and yet all of the failure. Beautifully played

  • It is melancholy for sure. Life is, as you say, bitter sweet.

  • What technique, very pretty. Played as nicely anything Joe Pass or Wes Montgomery does!! I also agree with the above, too short, Please give us more!!

  • I like it, but I wish you'd have been less strict with the time. This song sounds responds so beautifully to rubato...

  • I might have been able to get away with a more artistic interpretation if I had changed my strings. These were dead.

Almost all of my videos are nothing more than a way for my online students to view their lessons. I have not been able to make them private for more than 25 people, and most of the time, I don't even try.

That's why I go through this only once. It isn't a performance as much as a reference tool.

  • My favorite Christmas song of all, and I think I like this version the most of all.

  • This is beautiful

  • Thanks Rob, this is dumbfoundingly beautiful and an invaluable learning tool. I'm working diligently to learn this, after I got over my initial urges to smash my guitar and just kill myself after hearing this ; )

  • This is enchanting. A wonderful rendition of this classic song. :)

  • The best guitar version on tube, a little bit short, a longer version would be very appreciated. Bravo.

  • this is so beautiful i love this...man what a sweet song ....so warm and toasty

  • Absolutely lovely!

    Happy Christmas to you!

  • Splendid! Thank you.

  • oh my god...

    YES!!

    thank you

    this is perfect. the end

  • Absolutly Beautiful!

  • I have been listening to this for three days now...sooo beautiful...relaxing and romantic..

  • Your guitar tone is unbelievable.

  • Just found this, this is amazing. Will be checking out your other stuff for sure.

  • This is gorgeous!

  • I think that this is just as good as the piano piece. Very serene and pleasant. I will listen to this often and probably after the holidays.

  • very, very nice!

  • Nice. Did you re-tune the lower strings to allow for the drones?

  • No, it is standard tuning.

  • Yeah Man....I guess this is going to be another lonely holiday for me.

  • Sorry to hear that. Loneliness is probably the worst feeling there is. I will pray that things go well for you.

  • ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!

  • No! How about uploading some jazz vocals for us to listen to. Sing that lonely holiday away. We will be looking for something from you on Christmas eve and day. From Lady Lavendar and The Lady Marsha.

  • have hope my friend...sometimes it just takes time...i'm sure your future holidays will be awesome! count on it! ;)

  • Nice!

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Wow that was very very nice. A pleasure to hear it played on guitar. Merry Christmas!

  • Excellent guitar playing, sir. Merry Christmas to you.

  • And after 7 weeks of practicing I wonder where I'll be? One thing that's interesting to me is that sometimes very simple songs can sound good too, somehow can still be played well or badly. Willie Nelson it turns out has been abusing a classical guitar all these years (I didn't even know). I'm curious, if I were going to experiment, do they have pickguards you can put on and off? I'd think they would somewhere.

  • Great job!

  • This is beautiful. What are the chords?

  • Very well done sir. Where did you get the sheetmusic to this?
