Lots of things go into making a good player. Defensively there is a bunch... help D, man to man D, post and perimeter D, rebounding, blocking shots... that is only half of the game... Then offense = shooting outside shots, post moves, FTs, ball handling, etc.. then their is leadership and how much you just being there getting double teamed helps out your team.

Ok I'll weigh in on this one. On pure raw athleticism you have to give it to Oden who I think will turn out very much like Dwight Howard. Bynum has really great hands and a nice soft touch which really separates the two on the offensive end. I see Bynum as a guy you will have to double in the post, while you may not have to with Oden. Oden is more mobile and will block more shots, they'll both grab as many rebounds, but bynum will score 13-18ppg to Oden's 8-12ppg (mostly on dunks).
Its oden by a little now, and by a good amount in the future.
Oden's offense is really improved from college after working on his shot, hook shot, footwork, etc for a long time while he was out. It is as good as Bynums, and he has the overpower move where he will dunk on you. He is also superior defensively to Bynum, and may be the best defensive big man in the NBA in 2 years.

Don't get me wrong, the Lakers have a great history of Big Men, and Andrew Bynum is good, but he still has a lot to prove. And how many of those big men did the Lakers draft on that list? Besides Bynum, and Mikan they traded for all of the other players. Here is a list of centers they drafted:

Oden got up to 300 pounds of pure muscle during the year because all he did was go to the weight room. He is probably getting down to 280 of pure muscle, but he has an amazing body. Length wise, Bynum and Oden are the same. But like i said, Oden has probably the best NBA body.
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. Let Oden play his first 1/2 of the season THAN factor in all the assesements you've read or heard. Oden is good no doubt but to crown him better than Bynum right now is a bit over-zealous. We are talking about the LAKERS HERE. T-H-E L-A-K-E-R-S. Portland has had some great teams in the past but never really achieving the success of the LAKERS. Bynum is part of a tradition that when coupled with other great players will be formidable.

Andrew bynum has put in more nba time than Oden. I'd have to go with bynum because well his footwork is better, he has more range and is number two in the league in blocks right now. But their careers are young so we'll see what happens.

If you were looking for a player to build a team around, I would go for Bynum. He is a more complete player. If you want to sell tickets for a freak show, pick Oden. That is what the NBA has done with players like him and Lebron, they just shove them down our throats. Makes me sick.

and you know what, i'm actually a bynum fan. he's got the tools to be a great center. it helps to have kareem too. his game is very smooth for a seven footer. and he will be ONE of the best centers in this league.
my argument for oden though, is that just like d-howard. oden's combination of size and pure athleticism i way above everyone else's. it's what's made nba execs drool since he was in HS.

Lots of things go into making a good player. Defensively there is a bunch... help D, man to man D, post and perimeter D, rebounding, blocking shots... that is only half of the game... Then offense = shooting outside shots, post moves, FTs, ball handling, etc.. then their is leadership and how much you just being there getting double teamed helps out your team.
you were the one who was saying Bynum is better because he can block shots when Oden is a better shotblocker... by a good amt.

So far in the preseason he has gotten all his points by his own moves or putback rebounds and dunks after misses. He has rarely if ever gotten fed so far. Kobe played 8 minutes in the game i watched, and fed Bynum more in that time than Oden has the whole preseason.

fisher fed him the ball most of the time, and all of those were alley oops...most big men cannot do what bynum can do...bynum has a unusually high knack for being able to catch the ball in mid air and jam despite most defenses, secondly oden has yet to even play a REAL game, u think oden is gonna be scoring on his own and averaging 20+ a game...he'll be lucky to even average 14, bynum has a hook shot with both the right and left, until oden develops a go to move of some sort he won't be a threat

oden just had a freak accident...if kobe was in the same position he would have been out for 2 weeks as well, it just happened to be oden that was there and oden happened to miss last season cuz of surgery...thats all it was..oden will be alright

Um, no. Bynum has already become one of the top centers in the league. He just didn't happen to get his usual numbers in this particular game because the whole Lakers team was involved, they have so many other talent that Bynum doesn't have to carry the load.

Ok I'll weigh in on this one. On pure raw athleticism you have to give it to Oden who I think will turn out very much like Dwight Howard. Bynum has really great hands and a nice soft touch which really separates the two on the offensive end. I see Bynum as a guy you will have to double in the post, while you may not have to with Oden. Oden is more mobile and will block more shots, they'll both grab as many rebounds, but bynum will score 13-18ppg to Oden's 8-12ppg (mostly on dunks).

Its oden by a little now, and by a good amount in the future.
Oden's offense is really improved from college after working on his shot, hook shot, footwork, etc for a long time while he was out. It is as good as Bynums, and he has the overpower move where he will dunk on you. He is also superior defensively to Bynum, and may be the best defensive big man in the NBA in 2 years.

Yeah man, Bynum was dominating right before the injury. But this will be his 4th year in the NBA, and he has had a good 2 months of total bball. That is what i am saying.
Many act like Bynum is proven and Oden isn't, when i really don't think that is the case. Oden is gettin' like 13 and 7 in 18mpg in the pre-season so far.

Chamberlain
Jabbar
Shaq
Bynum
The Lakers have always had an eye for this area and will always do so.

Don't get me wrong, the Lakers have a great history of Big Men, and Andrew Bynum is good, but he still has a lot to prove. And how many of those big men did the Lakers draft on that list? Besides Bynum, and Mikan they traded for all of the other players. Here is a list of centers they drafted:
Jim Fritsche
Wayne Yates
David Meyers
Paul Rogers
The list goes on, overall the lakers are good at acquiring big men, and not very good at drafting them. Oden is going to be way better then bynum!

glaze. Oden has yet to be proven in the NBA ranks. Andrew is longer than Oden and "beefier". I am not sure if Oden's weight loss is going to be benefical for him in the long run. Nonetheless, it's going to make for some great matchups in this upcoming season don't you think? Portland has a solid team and is a young group. Just don't think they overall match-up with our gruesome front line of Gasol, Odom and Bynum.

Oden is actually probably the strongest player in the NBA according to Frye (said he is the strongest he ever played against) and McMillan (who said he is stronger than Dwight Howard after coahcing him on team USA).
Oden got up to 300 pounds of pure muscle during the year because all he did was go to the weight room. He is probably getting down to 280 of pure muscle, but he has an amazing body. Length wise, Bynum and Oden are the same. But like i said, Oden has probably the best NBA body.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. Let Oden play his first 1/2 of the season THAN factor in all the assesements you've read or heard. Oden is good no doubt but to crown him better than Bynum right now is a bit over-zealous. We are talking about the LAKERS HERE. T-H-E L-A-K-E-R-S. Portland has had some great teams in the past but never really achieving the success of the LAKERS. Bynum is part of a tradition that when coupled with other great players will be formidable.
