  • Good tips for starting novice horse and trainer. It would be nice if they could cut out the noise from the children in the background making it easier to hear Mark.

  • I have a horse i cant lunge but a few times w/ or w/out line on he just keeps backing up around and around what should i do to correct this?

  • That's a gorgeous horse! I love the color, he looks like my Kiger Mustang in a way

  • @TheMustangTrainer my horse will lunge going left but likes to try to follow me when i try to get her to go to the right and we dont have a round pen which makes it really hard what can i do to fix this problem?

  • I think you lunged him really well. A lot of people fail to realize the whip is an extension of your arm, not something to constantly beat on the horse with.

  • good

  • who uses whips ?

  • @ilovemihorse2 Anyone that lunges a horse...?

  • @killiansgirl1 Whips are aids. There is no cheating if something helps train an animal in a safe and enjoyable manner. You use whips--you don't whip with them. Anger and pain are the only cheats in training.

  • @killiansgirl1 I was riding before I was walking... I had a pony named Penny (american Shetland 20 year old) when i was 2, she was amazing. First horse I ever rode. my father got her for me and my sister, my sister wasn't that into her but I was, when I turned 6 I got to big for her so I lunged her. I used nothing but my hands. Any horse will move for ya. even a grumpy 20 year old Shetland. Get over yourself and learn something. Lunge whips are just the same as anyone's hands or anything else.

  • @killiansgirl1 this is not a "quick fix" he will do this over an amount of weeks.... it is like join up, and he is not doing this so that his horse will do that... dear God please just learn something before you open your mouth!

  • @killiansgirl1 Alrighty, first off... let me explin somthing to you, something you should already know, but most obviously dont. I can lunge without a lunge rope as well, anyone can/could because 1. horses are flight animals no matter what they will go AWAY if they are threatned, 2. It is not a WHIP its not HITTING the horse maybe thats all he simply had with him, he throws it towards the horse so that the horse will get the message that WE DON'T WANT YOU WITH US UNTIL YOU CAN BE ONE WITH US!

  • @killiansgirl1 you idiot its LUNGING!!! you are really stupid, and you obviously know nothing he doesn't PHYSICALLY touch the horse with the lunge whip, its a encouragement, you have a long way to go before you start working with any horses...

  • I was always told that they should turn away from you.

  • @AlizaKathryn In lunging you want them to turn towards you... if that horse turned away from me the lunge line would get tangled around him every time he turned.

  • @TheMustangTrainer you've got some amazing techniques I am going to try them today if I can :) thanks for helping us with horses your a great horseman and you explain things so well!

  • @AlizaKathryn..If a horse on a lunge line or lead shank gets turned away from you and gets his shoulder into the rope, it can be very dangerous. You cannot control them if they are serious about this move. Turn it loose to save being dragged under the horse and recatch it is about all you can do at this time. You maybe talking about "cant", which is the attitude assumed by the horses body when he canters. Left lead, body cants to right, Right lead, body cants to left. Subtle..

  • @42sundown..but easy to recognize with a little study. A little cant is acceptable but too much is to be avoided. Some greenhorn horses want to cant when turning and this can be detrimental and dangerous too because turning with too much cant makes the horse out of control. Look at the shins of old time barrel racers and you can see the results of too much cant and how quick a horse can fall into a barrel without neaning to. Watch the modern reining and barrel horses follow a nose

  • I just found your webpage through facebook and I love the way you explain things! I've always used mainly Monty Roberts and Clinton Anderson techniques/teachings when it comes to working with my horses and I think the way you explain and do things will compliment their styles nicely.
