It's ridiculous that the only reason this isn't considered a classical piece ranked up there right alongside folks like Chavez, Respighi, John Alden Carpenter, etc. is the fact that Emerson wrote it. If you played it for someone and said that it was the work of a new young composer who had gotten his degree at Julliard, it would be assessed very differently.
This music kicks ass! It's quite legit as a classically oriented piece if you ask me and it's not shy to bring in contemporary elements in rhythm and melodic orientation. The orchestration reminisces of some Bernstein and Copland flavors as well and the thematic content is also very rich. It's very likeable, so much so that I intend to keep listening to it. Thanks for the upload.
a taste of baroque, classical and romantic era music all rolled up in a piano concerto. why ? b/c he can. interesting, i wouldn't place this album on the shelf next to my vintage classical music albums.. it can proudly sit next to my yes and king crimson albums...rock to be taken seriously. same goes for jazz, coltrane, davis, diz, bird...living rock guitarist...JEFF BECK !!
A reminder as to how serious Keith was in the early days...I always hoped that their would have been piano concerto no. 2.Keith will always be a giant in the world of rock music!! Keith I'am still waiting..

This work is slowly gaining pace amongst classical purists. Sadly, only when Emerson dies will this work receive the British air-play it deserves. In my opinion, it encompasses all that Keith could say in the language of music. A truly beautiful work.
The theme that begins at 4:48 is one of the most beautiful in all of modern orchestral music, imho. It's so "singable," too -- you can almost hear Greg Lake singing along.
