I really wanted to try this recipe but I didn't have sauce so I used crushed tomatoes instead...and it turned out as a very tasty tomato curry....gr8 side dish for my Indian food :)
I have a family recipe for hot wing sauce, for making a batch about the size you did we use 10 oz. of hot sauce, some cayan pepper, dried pepper bits, some secret seasonings, johnny's seasoning salt, a pinch of real salt, a little onion powder, and some garlic salt, and it's amazing. Really really spicy and good.. Except for afterwards, thats when the real spice kicks in. And we have a family recipe for a beverage that cools the spice down right away haha.
i just know my husband would devour this! i'm wondering if the butter is necessary, though. he's got high cholosterol and i'd like to leave it out, if possible. what do u think, betty? would the sauce still be ok without it? thanks a bunch! =)
@ALLINKNOTS No, it does not have salt, and it doesn't need it. There's something about the hot sauce that makes the flavor seem a little salty without adding salt.
@ALLINKNOTS Not sure about Betty's brands, but most/all of the ingredients already have salt added, I noticed it even said on her butter package "salted butter" so it prolly doesn't need extra.
@Fitange The sauce is hot, but definitely tolerable. It's about the level of heat you would get by ordering hot wings at a restaurant that serves sauce on the side.
You do so much with chicken breasts.. Not a bad thing at all.. more of a thank you. That is usually the only piece of meat that I like. Bones I know add flavor, but they get in the way too :-P I also just love the fact you do so much with chicken. Chicken is one of my favorite meats. I am never too good with cooking beef :-P
You've got some timid taste buds there :) Tradition hot wing sauce calls for 1 cup of Frank's Redhot sauce, 1/2 stick of butter and a splash of cider vinegar, and no tomato sauce.
@erinseashore1996 hi, i live in ireland too, have you tried dunnes or superquinn ? roma do tomato sauce with no whole tomatoes,i would also suggest maybe using sweet chilli sauce but the very hot kind as a substitute.
@erinseashore1996 heya, do you have an asian supermarket near where you live? there's a few here in belfast, but i don't know where you live. they have different types of hot sauces there (i've also been to one in dublin and they had a godd selection too). other ethnic food shops also would have it :)

is that hunts sauce just like the passata we get in the uk?
liams231 7 months ago
@liams231 I'm not sure what passata is. The Hunt's tomato sauce is a mild, unflavored sauce.

Whats the point of making your own hot sauce when you use a Kroger off brand of Louisiana hot sauce.
als03246 1 year ago
@als03246 If you would rather have Kroger brand hot sauce, you shouldn't choose to watch a video on making hot wing sauce.

@IanzGurrl Butter is an important element of hot wing sauce. You can reduce it down quite a bit, but maybe not leave it out entirely.

Hi Betty, there seems to be a layer of oil around the rim of the sauce, is there probably too much butter?
missmickery 1 year ago
@missmickery For someone watching fat in their diet, I would suggest using only one-half as much butter.

hey betty~ can you make a quick tip on how to measure 250g of butter ( whole stick) by cutting it into tablespoon chunks/slices/cubes.

@TheLipzShow I noticed the butter she used was salted after I had asked the question, but, thanks for your smart ass comment anyway.

The tomato sauce makes it seem like a marinara kind of sauce, but I might try it :D I personally don't like any form of tomato so I'm hesitant
