im definitely ganna buy the G27. I need it so i can play NFS Shift and GRiD properly. hard work playing with a keyboard. DiRT 2 can be a little tricky to play using a keyboard as well.

One question. How does the clutch work though? Because with alot of games, to shift gears you just tap a single key on the keyboard. Does the shifter not work unless the clutch is pushed in or something?

@simracingtonight sorry correction! g27 shifter functions in undercover on ps2 not underground, along with 900 degree steering (late and unusable in undercover but still functional.

I would get dirt1/2and grid to add to my collection but some of these arnt shift compatible on ps3. can you guys make an official list or a small slot on ur show? there are 4rooms with people asking but no real tested list.

While the G27 will be nice, I'll pass on it as it will not have the sequential shifter. Yes, there are paddles, but most open wheel races cars from the 80s and 90s used the sequential setup, which I race most of. Thanks to you guys at Inside SimRacing for the G27 segments. It has made me not want one and wait for the G29.

Sim-Car reviews good idea but physics and FFB should be 75%+ of the score total. Sound also plays a crucial role here giving your senses additional inputs that a sim cannot otherwise deliver.

Aesthetics are important but meaningless unless physics, FFB & sound are up to scratch.

iRacing surely top of all charts, all cars!

Surely you are mistaken about iRacing topping the charts on all cars.. This segment is about the cars, not the tracks.. iRacing will top charts on all tracks. We love iR, but they don't have the best cars in sim racing.. Wait till the next show.. ;) I rated a car in the next show that toppped the Lotus. :-) It's not from iR either.

Sure, iRacing doesn't have the greatest variety of cars and how I long for many more! But the ones they have - in my experience at least, just blow everything else away. And I don't even like Oval racing (99% Road). Since really getting into iRacing every other Sim has taken a back seat (GTR Evo getting a look in though) and I think that's down to the outstanding, intricate physics model realised through each of the cars.

Anyway, I digress - keep the the car reviews coming! iR or not :) Cheers!

It's the tracks that are blowing everything else away.. The cars are very well done in iR.. but there's some in other sims that are better. Sounds for one are where iR may not stand up. A lot of iRs cars will be on the list and Im sure near the top.. The new Dallara when it is released may top that list ;)

Wow, I just realized that David Kaemmer made my favorite old games: IndyCar Racing (II). I still remember the troubles I've had in Surfer's Paradise in it's chicanes with the keyboard (I couldn't even think about buying a wheel). Because of that I took a looooong break from simulations with NFS series, whose latest titles (MW+) dissapointed me very much (who would've thought a....3-4 police SUVs can stay close to a McLaren F1 at 300km/h????). I hope Shift can redeem itself.

The profound sound that comes from the wheel at about 12:30 into the revistited review of the G27, is this a happening only when having the FFB enabled, or is it open for occurence all the time?

I am looking for a wheel and as I usually don`t see a need for FFB then sound is very important for me when driving without, I currently own the DFP.

BUT you spend way too much time talking and rating stuff with who knows how many sub-categories. Nobody cares if you think a car is worth a score of 78 or 80. The 100-point scale gives a false sense of accuracy to begin with, and subscores confuse matters even more.

Thumbs up/down was good, but even that is really needed.

But again a big THANKS for the great show :-)

Yeah I use it all the time (in cars that have a clutch in real life). I try to keep as close as I can to the real setup.

What you say about the product is 1000x more relevant then what number you put on it anyway, and you'd completely escape the linearity that indeed is a problem in the current state.

i gotta be honest, ive only driven the ferrari out of those three nd it never impressed me at all.i was much much more impressed with the look of the lambo(crappy a performer as it is against other gtr2 cars in game). and i couldnt find my groove in the ferrari either. the setup didnt seem to respond the way i wanted it to. im ppor so i cant irace, and i dont use rfactor so no comment on the others,

Great episode, best yet I think! I like the weighting of different categories of cars. For the 1:30 counter in the top left of the screen, I would personally drop the three decimal places in future as I found it quite distracting, and maybe just do it to the nearest second. Just a thought :)
