the xkcdsucks blog is retarded, it looks for something wrong with eery comic, it automatically decides the next comic is bad before theyve even seen it.
That blog is stupid; "I don't understand this" "I don't understand this" how can you base a blog on not understanding?
For example complaining that "The eagle has left the nest" is the only secret agent thing a field biologist would ever say.. I can think of like 20 things right off the top of my head.. first ones that comes to mind "The mouse has taken the bait..."
"The monarch Butterflies are migrating south" "The black-bird is feeding its young REPEAT the blackbird is feeding its young!"
@HaShomeret I just went to xkcdsucks and looked at it too. It hurt my feelings as a human being who respects english grammar and its language richness.
Sorry Randall, but come on dude. Not everyone who disapproves of your work is going to be shy about telling you. Constructive criticism is designed so the creator will take those thoughts into place and act on them.
By saying that you have a problem with it, it kinda means that you only made your forums just so people could talk about how much they like your work. Tunnel vision/ignorance isn't cool dude.
You have to wonder why somebody would dedicate an entire blog to criticising a webcomic though. Sure if people don't like something they'll criticise it, but to dedicate an entire site to it shows quite a bit of passion.
Having quickly read over the site it does sound almost like a bitter vengeful ex who's been deeply betrayed by a lover. Seriously... It's a webcomic, get over it! :P
Nobody who likes xkcd is going to pay any attention, so for somebody to go to that length... xD
Well he certainly convinced me of XKCD not being good anymore, and he did it with sound reasoning and good analysis. But that's just me. And sites dedicated to criticism exist all over (any video game review blog, sites dedicated to any particular franchise...). But that's just me. If you wanna keep reading go ahead.
He's actually addressed concerns like yours many times on the FAQ page.
You have to be told what opinion to have of something? Interesting...
I wouldn't call my curious interest a concern, it's more a case of amusement. I honestly don't take it seriously enough to read an FAQ on a site dedicated one man's dislike of another man's webcomic. Let's be fair, the fact that such a site would have an FAQ in the first place is quite pompous. Like anybody really cares how he wants to justify his obsession. xD
Um yeah... It's called debate... The whole point of expressing your opinion is to convince other people that yours is correct. If you realize that someone has a point that's stronger than yours, it sways your way of thinking. Why else would Politicians campaign to people opposing view points?
I don't read an xkcd fans comment who justifies his the quality of the comic and suddenly have my mind changed to the quality.
Must be a dull life if you can't form your own independent opinion. Personally I much rather rely on my own taste to determine whether I like or dislike something.
There's no correct or incorrect when it comes to liking or disliking something, unless you're one of those chumps who like beer, sports, and tall blond women in a timid display of subservience towards their equally dull peers.
If you think I'm dull for listening to someone else's point of view and finding that they have a point, then that's your purgative. I like to hear opposing view points because it spurs healthy debate and encourages looking at something from another perspective rather than having tunnel vision and refusing to hear any other opinion that's not yours.
Not really sure I understand your beer and women comment...
Like I said, I don't care if you read xkcd, so why should you care if I don't?
It's not about willingness to hear differing opinions, it's about liking or disliking something based on the opinion of others. Take food for example, somebody can tell you whether a particular dish is nice or isn't nice, but ultimately it's up to you to decide whether you like it or not based on your own taste.
Would you eat something you don't like because somebody told you it was nice?
"Like I said, I don't care if you read xkcd, so why should you care if I don't?"
I couldn't care less whether you read xkcd or not. I'm just pointing out the hilarity of people passionately obsessing about something they don't like. :P
I never said I was obsessing. All I did was reply to the video. I make comments on videos all the time. It doesn't mean I obsess with anything.
And to answer your question, I've read both sides of the xkcd quality argument. I've concluded that the anti argument has more merit. Like I said, I don't read a pro argument and say "Wow, this person has a point too. Now I don't know what to think!" I heard them make their case and I still didn't agree.
You seem to be completely missing the point... whether somebody likes a piece of entertainment or not is a matter of personal taste, it has nothing to do with which side of the argument has more merit. If you need to be convinced what opinion to have then you clearly lack the capacity to form your own conclusion, and thus are mindless and dull.
And btw, people obsess with things they don't like all the time (stopping world hunger, stopping environmental harm, preventing genocide...)
If that sounds out of context , my personal reason for visiting the blog is just because its funny to read a lot of the time. I'm not about to write letters to Randall complaining about his comic. I'll just stop reading it, like I did.
Randall doesn't need constructive criticism. The people who read and enjoy his comic aren't going to hate on it no matter how unoriginal and unfunny it is. Otherwise sane and intelligent people will eat that shit up.
Wow, Randall is right, someone is DEFINITELY wrong on the internet

Obsessing about a bad situation is completely different to obsessing about a trivial matter of taste, if you can't see that you're a complete moron!

Seems like your obsessing about something trivial now dude...
But we're clearly on opposing sides if the fence here so can we please just agree to disagree?
And btw I was totally joking with the bad situation comment, man. I guess that doesn't translate to text well.
