its not set up. its actually real, scinos do use it also when you are approached by one they all say the same thing and repeat it, "what are you afraid of" what are your crimes" it gets to your head, but Darren brown ( this guy in the clip ) uses the old gypsy mind trick, and yes it is real, notice the water bottle and when he says the words "You don't mind giving that to me" and he makes them point in the direction and follows body movements, its all real psychology

Maybe it's just cause I'm American, but my first response when someone asks "Can I see your wallet?" is usually "Only if I can put your balls in my pocket to replace it."

From the moment he meets them he drops little hints. "you're fine." "Thanks for giving that to me." (ie. the info). "You're happy to give it." He's a master of suggestion.

I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but the close proximity, the easy engagement, and the amount that he Cut the guy short in speaking just strikes me as immediately suspicious.

The first thing I would have done, upon meeting him was grab his shoulder, and gently move him outside my bubble. Though he would have likely given up after that, because it sets a pretty clear message.

For complete strangers, he's standing close like he knows the person. I can see how this would work on some people as getting under their radar, but its just a little suspicious to me.

The way he manages to do it is by going to a semi-crowded place. He also moves around a lot to stop the person feeling insecure. The fact that Derren hands him something as well is another excuse to get a little closer to him...

Yeah, I dunno. I would just feel suspicious of a complete stranger being that engaging immediately, for one, and someone asking me for my wallet would get my immediate attention, just like if he said "Fuck you very much" quickly.

You seem to be missing the point, he is getting them into a state where they dont think to ask those questions to themselves. Do you think they would hand him their wallet in normal situations? I highly doubt it. And that is where the tirck comes in. Usually the fact you fail to see what he is doing (no offense) means it is more likely to work on you.

No, I will not hand you my wallet. I'm just saying that I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone wouldn't say "Wait, what?" I know I sure as hell would.

I dont doubt it works on some people, I'm just fairly confident that it wouldn't work on me. And I'm also fairly confident it wouldn't work on the majority of people. You dont see the ones he failed on.

I'm not being closed minded, I'm questioning its validity. Maybe I'm just in a minority. I've volunteered in several hypnosis shows, and nothing ever happened.

Well Derren Himself said it works on about 3/4 people. And Derren Also says he himself does not believe in Hypnosis. I realy dont think you know anything about what Derren actually does, do you? The reason i ask do you believe in God is, if yes, you would believe in something you can not see? The existance of a God is HUGELY improbable, but not impossible. humans being able to do things like what Derren does is much more probable and clearly possible.

The people thought nothing of it until he had left the shop. It's on youtube, just search "derren brown paying with paper"

I will add that any college student who wants to find out the truth about NLP ask their psychology professor. The claims of NLP have been around since at least the early 70's and could be confirmed or debunked by neuroscience but last I checked no test has been made of its claims.

Bwuh, wah, HUH?! How the Hell does this work? I believe in hypnosis, and I've had it done to me, and I respect the things it can do, but, what on Earth just happened? All hypnosis I know of involves focus from the participant and complete agreement on what's going on. Usually it involves the person closing their eyes, limiting their senses to focus on your voice. The only key I heard here was something like "You were happy to give them to me".

He did a lot of other confirmation statements too. Like when he confirmed the directions they gave him, they said a lot of affirmative responses (yes, that's right). He said,"You dont mind me asking" (not as a question, as a statement). He always had something in his hand (water bottle) so the exchange felt natural, like someone saying, "Would you mind holding this for a second?"
