You can read about the unbelievable adventures of Dr. Lloyd Miller traveling and performing through the Middle East and beyond by going to the jazzscope website and clicking on Sufi, Saint & Swinger. Some of the adventures playing and jamming in many musical styles around the Middle East during 7 years are very enlightening and fun reading.
@camomilleable11 You don't sound someone like from Samarqand! Uzbek and tajik difference is only language. They even have teh same ancestry - Uzbeks have aryan blood and Tajiks have turkic-mongolian mixture. Only muntain tajiks preserved themseleves pure. And a tiny percentage of uzbeks have pure turkic-mongolian genes.
Salam. Senin sozler sahih diler. You are right; this is a choreography by a character ballet dancer who was inspired by the Bokharan style of Uzbek dance which reflects Tajik culture. As you know the Bokhara / Samarqand area of Uzbekistan has a large Tajik ethnic cpopulation. From what I gather, the difference between Uzbek and Tajik culture is more linguistic and historical than racial since both peoples have Turkic and Mongol lineage plus some Persian and Afghan. Dr. Lloyd Miller
Tajik people are in fact Persians. They might have Uzbek or Tatar ancestry in their lineage whereas Uzbek people are descendants of Turkic people who conquered Timurid territory about 600 years ago. I have never been there so I cannot make any comment about their appearance. But I had an Uzbek friend, he looks like Caucasian mixed with Mongol. I also have a Tajik friend over the internet. He obviously look Middle Eastern.
I'm from Uzbekistan, and its not a Bokhara traditional dance, the costume and the pas are more like north-east of Uzb. But it is a beautiful performance anyway.
@MrBurakification This is not Bukhara dance! I know Uzbekistan dance schools. This is Ferghana dance - hat, silk-fabric and even colours, music and doira - everythung is Ferghana dance. There are 3 dance schools in Uzbekistan - Bukhara, Khorezm and Ferghana. Now Boysun/Surkhandarya is claiming to have its own style, music, costumes and dance! Amazingly the biggest cities - Tashkent and Samarqand have never had their own costumes or dance!
@Mithradatesi Persian culture is beautiful. But this is not persian Bukharan dance, This Uzbek/turkic Ferghana dance. Someone said it was persian bukhara dance and everyone is misled now. Anyway salut to great Persian culture. Uzbek culture is half=Persian since Uzbeks are descendants of both Persians and Turks with some mixture with Mongolians and Arabs.
Its a nice dance anyway and as you say we are all brothers. And as you say Uzbeck have Iranic/Persian Anscestry as well. Samarkand and Buchara are the centers of post Islamic Iranian culture! Salutations!
@Mithradatesi No Uzbeks don't have Iranic/Persian Ansecstry. Moreover, they belong to Mongol-Turk race, rather than Aryan. Samarkand and Bukhara is heritage of Tajik people. And Uzbek copied and adopt Tajik/Persian culture and tradition,
Shes a great dancer. I was just thinking that if this lady were to dance in Iran, they'd think she was simply dancing Persian if they didn't know it was Tajik.
Нету культуры таджика или узбека. Есть только одна культура, Средний Азии.
