I'm neither an atheist nor a follower of any religion (pantheism would be as close as any label, I suppose)... just someone who is a obsessive-compulsive about historical accuracy.
One thing to point out, agnosticism isn't a religious view. It is a view on knowledge of religion. Agnostic people believe that the knowledge to know the truth isn't available at the moment. There can be agnostic atheists and agnostic theists.
As for Carl Sagan, I know that he said that he was an agnostic and not an atheist, but I think in modern terms he would be considered an agnostic atheist. He said that he wouldn't believe in God until proven otherwise.

I'm a proud Atheist girl. After I came out of the closet with my parents (which by the way live in different state from me), they refused to answer my phone calls for over 3 months. I'm just going off of Richard Dawkins and his books I used to read in high school. I base my definition of his. The bible is one of the most accurately translated book in history. To the 't' , Years back historians discovered the dead sea scrolls which dated back hundreds of years B.C. and when translated and compared to a standard ESV bible were almost 99% accurate. The bible just confers what I encounter in life. The extra-biblical evidence is my encounter with God.

Not bad. Many of the founding fathers were deists, though. But that is only a short step away from atheism. I have heard thoughts that if they'd have had the theory of evolution at that time, though, that many would have likely been atheists because they seemed to be in that position of not understanding how the complexity of nature could not be designed. PS Just because we use the same date and modify old traditions doesn't make Christmas and Winter Solstice the same thing. That's like saying that Americans are the same as Englishmen. Christianity was born out of Judaism and when it arrive in Europe was accepted by Pagans. Doesn't it kind of make sense that converted Pagans kept a lot of their old traditions and just give them Christian meaning?

Atheism is by no means devoid of "god-idols." Atheism itself is an idol worship of oneself. It is an idol worship of the great god "chance" by whom we all exist for no purpose. It is only through a true worship of the true God, the Blessed Trinity, the Lord God Almighty, that one does not worship an idol. Of course there are still idols in my life, of which I am ashamed, but i is through the power of the real, true Holy Spirit by which I am able to put those idols to death and worship Jesus.

We have no specific atheist morals or specific atheist values or specific atheist songs or specific atheist "idols", we are just ourselves, humans. Your justification of your religion is a circular logic. In the bible it says, that god exists, therefore god exists, and because god says so, the bible is accurate.
You have to rely on extrabiblical evidence to justify your belief in god. Please provide me with those.

I'm just going off of Richard Dawkins and his books I used to read in high school. I base my definition of his. The bible is one of the most accurately translated book in history. To the 't' , Years back historians discovered the dead sea scrolls which dated back hundreds of years B.C. and when translated and compared to a standard ESV bible were almost 99% accurate. The bible just confers what I encounter in life. The extra-biblical evidence is my encounter with God.

I tell people that the Bible is a conglomeration of books that predated the bible and they get confused.They don't realize that The Book of Adam and Eve was written before the Bible or The Gospels according to John,Luke,Mark etc were condensed and put into the bible so people could have one standardized book to carry and learn from.books were expensive 2,000 years ago.MOST Christians are ignorant of their religion,have not even read the whole bible much less the books that predate the bible.

Not bad. Many of the founding fathers were deists, though. But that is only a short step away from atheism. I have heard thoughts that if they'd have had the theory of evolution at that time, though, that many would have likely been atheists because they seemed to be in that position of not understanding how the complexity of nature could not be designed. Theory of evolution, for those who understand the theory, provides a better answer.

@earthangel103 erm, I'm not quite an atheist - more spiritual than that, but definitely anti-organized religion as it's become.... and I've read the Bible, The Torah, The Qur'an, a good amount of buddhist writings, taoist things, eastern things, as well as just about every philosopher you can think of...oh, and a lot about biology, neuroscience, quantum physics, and how these tie into religion.After all of that, I can safely say while it had some good initial ideas, organized christ is bullshit

@earthangel103 can only be defined as a representation of spiritual and universal life force which is unique to whoever happens to be tapping into it, based on personal spirit (direction of thought being the only thing spirit could be defined as) and cultural customs. There are definitely guiding universal laws found from all spiritual people - positive attracts positive, and negative attracting negative for example - but aside from this the concept of God can NOT be a humanistic consciousness.

I do, however, think we have the innate ability to tap into the spiritual part of our existence - rather than just the physical - if emphasis is put on such things.This defines most religious gurus, all of which share similar core beliefs but adapt to their cultures.
