  • For 30 years I wonder what this back ground noise at 00:06 is. Now I finally have the chance to ask the community whether anybody knows why Mike included it into the song.

    Anybody knows?

  • How in the world could I forget Crises... that to was a great album...

  • Just another example of Mike Oldfield's genuis.... Let's face it he has never done anything to top Tubular Bells - Hergest Ridge or Ommadawn those will always be his top albums in my opinion... But he has come close after the rather weak album Incantations he bounced back rather nicely with this fine album Platinum.. Yes fans don't yell at me but I thought Incantations was weak... : )

  • Does anybody know why Mike added that 'noise' at 00:06 into the rhythm? It bothers me for 30 years? What could be the reason?

  • i can't imagine the person who bought this album and put on his stereo the first time.. what he felt?

  • his 3rd best album - after TB and Crises !

  • 1:31 let's fly!

  • compared to today it sounds like he was just warming up, forgive my ignorance, due to this being released before i was born,i never heard before i listened and i loved.

    he is genius

  • ich kanns nur immer wieder sagen der mann ist ein genie

  • brilliant 1:31 at 2:30 & 3:15 at 5:00 the two excerpts favorite on this track this music is so pure beautiful & magical that only mike oldfield can do it

  • best music ever!!!

  • @Nuessi62 I totally agree....1:31 is just awesome!!!!

  • geniale.

  • underrated guitar player , larry carlton in the 70's not 80's and my fav jeff beck

  • absolutly brillant for those years, very innovator very attractive

  • Fantastic song!!!!

  • Mike has been producing music for almost 40 years... I hear he's working with Don Black, the Music Hall of Fame lyricist that has written almost all of the James Bond themes....YAYYYY. If you like this, youd probably LOVE Umphrey's McGee...similar explosive progressive feel and ingenuity but with a modern taste.

  • I Aye being funny but i'm 19, i love this song, i aint really into the GHETTO get me blud imma stab u music,,,, this,,, just brings a smile on my damn misrable face,, true outstanding

  • chills

  • possibly the best song that MO ever made? if you can suggest others that are as good please advise

  • @jezjonson Tubular Bells

  • Mr Oldfield has just floated an air biscuit...

  • great bass guitar on this on.....i remember this album well

  • At 1st, i didin' want to rate or comment this song.. but as i kept listening to it, it kept getting better and better and i'm hardly reaching the end and i'm feeling so inspired. I had no idea this guy is a musical genius. I'm actually having one of his albums on cassette which my uncle passed to me and i just thought of checking out how these songs would sound like cause the titles are kinda funky. The album i'm having is titled, "Airborn". Thank you so much FoggyNotion.0.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • Imagine: this record has been released 30 years ago (!!!). And I still like it almost like back then in 1980...

  • Super je l'ai trouvé sur Youtube ^^ j'adore cet album!!! Magnifique musique elle me donne des frissons

  • the intro is one of the rare real mysteries to me, both how its played (delay, cross hand, overdob, how that strange complex rhythmic??) and the sound,

is it a synths clavinet, or what? does anyone have information about the intro of platinum?

  • @MoveOverCasanova I'm a great fan of Mike's as well and I loved this tune so much in the early 80s.For the synth section I'd go for a Polymoog.Came up in those years as the first "really" polyphonic analogue synthesizer. I think I saw him play it on a TV show. Not sure though...

    Greetings from Germany

  • @MoveOverCasanova I think he used the Oberheim OB-Xa quite a bit on this album.

  • Not heard this for years til today, forgot how good it really was!

  • how many times!!!

    five + five stars!!!

    thx for post it...

  • We had a big discussion about this on the tubularnet forum but I KNOW that Mike says the word Platinum 6 seconds into the start. Can you hear it?

  • @TubularBelle

    I can!

(not sure whether he says 'platinum' or anything else on earth, but YouTube is not the place for detecting it anyway, is it? :D)

  • cette musique , je la connais depuis mes 16 ans et j'en ai 45 et j'aimerais tant l'avoir en cd mais esc que elle exixte? ou alors peut on la telecharger? pour cette musique je mets un 10 sur 10 , Fabrice de belgique

  • brilliant album

  • Brilliant!!

  • Saw his concert in Berlin in'80.A classic memory.

  • The guitar entry at 1:30 is orgasmic!

  • It's so happy it makes me cry =)

  • Me too, fuck, we get older.

  • Love the whole album but it is the introduction (this excerpt on youtube) what wants you to hear the whole album! A fan.

  • Beautiful song

  • i love this!!!!!! the guitar is... impresionante es un genio Mike!!!!!

  • I especially love the start of the "tutti"-section at 1:31 -- an incredibly happy piece of music!

  • a true master peice, however i prefer north star.

  • thank you soo much for posting this. I've been hunting for a long time

will buy the album asap because such beautiful work deserves profit.

  • @eagle416 i picked up "Impressions" by Mike Oldfield on vinyl a few months ago at FYE and i finally got around to listening to it last week. WOW! i've missed so much these past few months. but on the second record, it's mostly songs from Platinum (which i havent heard yet) and on the B side it's a couple of his traditional songs. i love it. Mike is definitely one my favorites now.
